Does JD Vance help or hurt Trump’s chances? He’s young and a Yale law grad married to another Yale law grad.

I think that despite his flip flopping on Trump, he is a great add to the ticket right now–especially in light of the age of both presidential candidates. You have some one who is young and more relatable to much of the population than either Trump, Biden, or Harris. He’s got military service and, at least on paper, looks a definite plus for Trump’s chances.

In my opinion, it helps Trump and sets the tone for the MAGA agenda, whatever side of that you’re on personally.

The flip flop was less an actual flip flop and more (to me) a changing of the mind or an actual convincing. His last public criticism of Trump was 2016. Its been 8 years and he apparently has gotten on board with how Trump governs.

As an aside, I hate the term flip flop in its current typical use. For example, Romney flip flopped on abortion. He was not against it, then he was against it, then that position softened again. THAT is a flip flop. Someone changing their mind or being convinced that they were previously wrong is not a flip flop.

I do not believe he changed his mind at all. He saw that trump was a manipulatable, useful idiot. He’s using him to advance a far right wing fascist agenda. That’s all. And if you don’t believe me, look at the vast crowds of defectors from the last trump administration who went on record talking about his incompetence, his traitorous behavior, and his lack of respect for our country after they left. They’re all happy to jump on the gravy train and ride it to the end of democracy.

Vance is not using Trump, lol. It’s the other way around. It’s a faustian bargain for Vance that we all know cannot and will not end well for him. Hopefully he will fare better than Pence and avoid any angry mob of knuckle draggers trying to hunt him down to kill him.

“Despite his flip”

The flip made him more appealing to Trump. It’s a total, public emasculation of Vance. Trump loves that shit.

Vance’s origin story makes him more appealing to lower class white voters, a group that Democrats continue to hemorrhage thanks to Democratic identity politics, which leaves them out in the cold. For a decade now, Democrats have done basically nothing to keep/win back low income, uneducated white voters. The fealty, the emasculation, the lower class origin story – he’s perfect for Trump.

I think it helps, but I’m curious how much it *actually* moves the needle in the polls. Trump’s conviction barely moved the polls. Biden’s debate performance moved the polls barely more. I doubt the assassination attempt gives Trump much of a bump.

Picking Vance probably reinforces support among people who already wanted to vote for Trump, but were worried about age or baggage. Curious to see how the polls move over the next week or two.

Disagree about Vance. The future of the country is in the hands of uneducated, low income white people in the upper midwest. That’s JD Vance’s tribe. Democrats continue to circle jerk over identity politics, ignoring these people. All the Democrats had to do was nominate a sane candidate instead of Biden/Harris. But Democrats didn’t want a primary, then or even late stage (now). So Democrats basically avoid democracy in their quest to save democracy. What a joke.

I do believe the democrats are doing a terrible job selecting candidates. Biden was not my first, second, or third choice. That said, calling him insane (or not sane) is nonsense. Biden has accomplished quite a bit of common sense legislation like the infrastructure bill. Neither he nor Harris are insane or outlandish candidates. Frankly, they’re pretty boring, middle of the road people. Democrats just continually fail at marketing their middle America appeal and their accomplishments thus far. The democrats have also completely failed to counter the narrative on Biden’s age. Trump is only 3 years younger than him, couldn’t ride a bike to save his life, and has yet to deliver a single coherent sentence, but the republicans have managed to paint Biden as the deficient one.

@11:39 I’m not sure if you’re being serious or attempting to troll. Maybe that makes you a successful troll? Or maybe you’re so far down the rabbit hole, you don’t even know what main stream media is anymore? Go read the headlines on CNN. Contrary to the BS you’ve been fed for the last 20 years, CNN is NOT liberal or even liberal leaning. They’ve gone all in on the messaging from the republican party and they love trump because he generates more ad revenue. That’s the bottom line. They aren’t ideologues; they’re in business to make money and they don’t care how.

These two things are not mutually exclusive. And you are fucking delusional, if you think that they are not ideologues. Tapper, Blitzer, Cuomo. Come on, this is not a serious post. Maybe you are the troll.

CNN hasn’t told the truth since 1992 and whatever they report on, to a man, they hate Trump and you know it.

@12:02 just because individuals that work at CNN purport not to like trump, they like their money more than they hate him. Go read the headlines on CNN. I realize that yelling into the void how CNN/the MSM hates trump and poor put upon, every-man trump is a victim, but you really have detached from reality if you are buying that lie. That’s just as nonsensical as all the liberals you lambast for believing everything Maddow says. The pendulum goes both ways. And CNN isn’t the media outlet that literally (as in the actual definition of “literally”) argued in court, under oath, that they are an entertainment outlet and no one would reasonably believe what they say is true. https://www.npr.org/2020/09/29/917747123/you-literally-cant-believe-the-facts-tucker-carlson-tells-you-so-say-fox-s-lawye

And yes, that’s an NPR link so I know you’re going to scream into the void about NPR too. More importantly than your right wing rage, you can use that article to research the case in question and you can see for yourself that it’s true.

2:33pm is correct. It is hilarious for CNN or Fox loyalists to point at the other and say “they are propaganda!” while ignoring that your own favorite network is, too. Sure, one may be more accurate more often or less misleading. But they’re all corrupt to the core.

Signed, Conservative who refuses to watch any MSM because I’d rather not be misinformed.

Follow the thread, Linda. The MSM is relevant here. Some ±80% of Americans are on some type of social media (I looked it up – Pew Research). How many of them actively avoid MSM because of its bias?

Some ±40% of American adults follow the news some or all of the time, so that is pretty fucking relevant (also, Pew). So while adults that rarely follow the news is up some 50% in the same period. Its still relevant.

So no, not “everyone” gets their news from social media.

Oh come on! @2:30 you don’t know shit about shit. Acting like you have some knowledge about Biden is bullshit. Neither nominee is ideal, they’re both too old, and the orange man is an obese pig who eats garbage and can’t walk a golf course. Either one of them could keel over any day now. Don’t act like the alternative to Biden is some shining example of cognitive/physical health cause it just ain’t there.

Me? I’ll take the guy who gets shot and stands up and shakes his fist at the shooter and goes golfing the next day over the guy who repeatedly falls UP the fucking stairs.

I am pretty sure that Station Casinos security would have done a better job protecting 45/47 than the SS did. The sheer number of coincidental failures is mind-numbing and does the exact opposite of inspiring confidence. Only in government does an agency fail at their primary job of protecting presidents–with a $3.2 billion budget–and nobody loses their job.

On the night of November 21, 1963, several members of President Kennedy’s Secret Service detail went to a bar called The Cellar in San Antonio, drank their fair share of alcohol, and did not get back to their rooms until the wee hours of the morning. A few hours later, only Special Agent Clint Hill moved a muscle to protect President Kennedy.

that was on 4chan so not reliable. the AP says no person with the name who claimed to make that statement works for the SS or local police.
That said, watching the video makes it clear that the sniper was aware of the shooter ahead of time because he fired immediately and didn’t even move his aim.

Everyone is a keyboard warrior. Even if they put their name on it, they are disassociated from the comment as it is not face to face and simply a “sound bite” anymore. I actually wonder how people can have so much hate and anger at people who lean the opposite way of them. The reality is we probably all agree on 75% of things. Both sides have become entrenched in you are either with me or an enemy of me.
