Any idea on what’s going on with the bill to add judges and raise judicial salaries?

The bill on the number of judges, AB43, was amended in committee. It now provides for an increase of one family judge for the Second Judicial District (Washoe) and one judge for the Fourth Judicial District (Elko). In the Eighth Judicial District (Clark), the amendment eliminates any increase to the number of non-family court judges and lowers the increase in family court judges from nine to six.

The judicial salaries bill, AB46, is mired in the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, where it will likely stay mired until budgets start closing. It has not yet had a hearing.

re: Board of Governors elections, my vote is that we eliminate them entirely. Not really clear on what they've ever done for me anyway.

@12:45, Your argument is right on point, however, stop acting like a self serving dick-skin. It's not all about you. You should have posted, "Not really clear on what they've ever done for us anyway."

BOG elections will be same old/same old. None of the people who(often rightfully) complain, will run as agent of change candidates.

Instead, the elections will continue to be dominated by incumbents who send out mass correspondence extolling their supposed accomplishments, while stating that there is more that needs to be done, and re-elect me so I can accomplish these additional great things.

The few new faces that are elected tend to be recruited by existing members, so they essentially are of the same mold.

So, meet the new bosses. Same as the old bosses.

You know there's an easy solution to that right? Put your name in. Invite your friends or others to do the same. Instead of just complaining about the problem, try to be part of the solution.

If you don't like the bar, let's just surrender control of admission and discipline to the legislature, and let them run the show?

At the risk of someone stealing my idea – I'd like some legal feedback. I have a business idea to combine a marriage and family therapist with my legal practice, catering to attorney's struggling. I would unlikely practice law given the restrictions on partnering with non-lawyers, but the business would be more of consulting – confidential. I have several specifics in mind – but I don't want anyone stealing my plan :-). I would like to know in general what people think. Would you utilize such a practice if it was confidential? Perhaps those in trouble with the bar could use an "expert" regarding their mental health…etc. Thoughts please –

Here is my honest opinion based upon personal experience (and presuming that you have the requisite training and licensure in mental health services): good idea in theory that actually carries some degree of peril in practice. People in trouble with the OBC in cases that involve mental health and substance abuse already use experts, whether they are psychologists, psychiatrists, MFT, LSW. That is already occurring (and in some cases required) in cases where implicated. I go to a therapist but most of my issues that I discuss are not directly legal related (some are). I would be less likely to go to a therapist who also had connections in the legal community.

My honest opinion is that you should stop abusing apostrophes.

Have to agree with 11:40. The time I had need for help in this area, I made sure they had no connection to the legal community. I also paid cash and did not use the coverage I had available. My diagnosis and treatment ended with me and the provider.

Off topic but does anyone know how to get the Supreme Court of Nevada (and US district Court) certificate which shows you're admitted to practice in Nevada? I think it looks nice in the office. The problem is I never received one and have been practicing 5 years.

12:49: I would contact the Clerk's Office at the Nevada Supreme Court for a "replacement license." The fee is $50.00. You would also contact the Clerk's Office at the U.S. District Court for a replacement admission certificate. Hope this helps.
