Initially thought lawsuit against the restaurant was BS, then I read “interfering with CPR” and rethought my opinion a bit. Large gap between a questionable failure to render aid and active interference with ongoing aid.

There’s not much of a duty to rescue beyond calling 911. Pretty on pointe case law on this but it’s not clear from the article whether the restaurant called 911 or didn’t need to since somebody else did. Also not clear what the cause of death was, choking or heart attack.

It will be fine as long as it’s “government approved”

Uh.. No. He will be fine so long as the ratings are good, and show makes money.

So much for the “threats” by the FCC.

Is there any functional legislation that can counter misinformation on the internet RE: AI image legislation, I get that disclosure rule will help out with actual candidates – but god willing one would hope they’re not using them much. However, the more pernicious form of political voice, out-of-state interest groups and so forth, I would imagine don’t care and won’t stop.

So this defendant was apparently out of custody for around three years, had a baby, did not go on a crime spree or anything while she was out (else we would surely have heard about it), so what earthly purpose (other than the care and feeding of prosecutorial ego) is served by sending such an individaul back to prison for a crime she committed as a teenager over a decade earlier?

The judge vacated a sentence without legal basis and refused to comply with 2 Supreme Court orders reversing her. The defendant belonged in prison and should not have been released. It doesn’t matter that she has stayed out of trouble. If a prisoner escapes and behaves for 5 years before being caught, do you just let them go? It’s about maintaining law and order, not prosecutorial ego. Sounds like someone just doesn’t like law enforcement.

She didn’t jump the fence; she was released by a judge and walked out the front door. I would argue that the fact she maintained a clean record for three years is entirely relevant as to whether any societal purpose is served by locking her up again. I agree that you can’t just ignore the orders of the NSC, but this just seems wrong on many levels from a policy perspective.

I hear you logically. But when the NSC says do something (twice), you take your career and liberty into danger by flipping them off.

I’d assume so? I had a hearing scheduled in her court for tomorrow, just got a notice that it’s been rescheduled.

Will they just have a senior judge take over the department for 6 months or transfer all of her cases?

Anybody know the names of the parties in the Aria Javier’s lawsuit? Estate of Michael Helsin doesn’t bring it up.
