Plumbers don't typically get murdered for being plumbers or doing plumbing work. Mr. German, a journalist, was murdered because of his work in journalism. Journalism and its importance are ensconced in our constitution. When a journalist is murdered because of their work it's a big deal.
I don't think it's any more a big deal than a police officer getting murdered because of his/her work / being targeted for being a police officer. All lives matter and all lives are equal.
Who said it's a bigger deal than a police officer being murdered? Two things can be big deals at the same time. We can focus on one big deal without minimizing all other big deals. Are you saying we shouldn't address this big deal because there are other big deals that also exist?
And as 10:44 alluded to, we track how many journalists are murdered because protection of the free press is expressly included in the Constitution and intimidation or full-on takeover of the press is how dictatorships are started and maintained.
@10:56 – what is your point except to try to hijack a social justice movement by aping their motto? Police murders are tracked and reported on. Reporters being murdered for their jobs is a BFD. German was killed in a random act of violence or a car crash. He was specifically targeted and murdered for 1A activities. This thread was about reporters – not cops. If you want to start a thread about cops, ask the moderators.
@11:05 – full-on takeover of the press has already occurred. They are just a propaganda arm of the left.
@11:16 hijack a social justice movement? aping their motto? Their motto is racist in and of itself. Their motto claims certain lives matter more than others. Why do I need to ask the moderators for permission to discuss police or other careers when commenting on an article? I don't see anywhere where it says "Note: Only discuss reporters". Stop your linear thinking ways.
I’m sure many plumbers have been murdered. I’m equally certain that the vast majority were not murdered *because* of their work as plumbers.

On Friday of last week, the day that German was murdered, there was discussion on here about the finalists for probate commissioner. At 4:04 p.m. on Friday afternoon, there was a comment made about a supposed "major investigation" into probate firms and their dealings with appointing real estate agents as administrators, blah, blah, blah. I am quite certain that comment was made by Rob Telles. Telles became obsessed with this issue and made a lot of effort to get involved in those cases, even attempting to file an objection to every Petition of that kind that he could find. He also pushed for changes to the probate statutes that led to a legislative change in 2021 that requires notice be given to the public administrator's office in certain situations, where that wasn't required previously. Basically, he viewed himself as the probate police, while cases that he actually needed to push forward from years prior languished. I don't know of anyone else in the probate bar that had the level of angst about this issue as Telles had. Meaning, I don't know of anyone else in the probate bar that would have posted that comment on Friday afternoon.
Upshot, if I'm right that Telles posted it, he posted it here a mere few hours after murdering German.
Pretty sure Telles wasn’t posting from his suicide watch cell at 1030 this morning.

Two comments:
1. We have an AG candidate (Chattah) who has openly discussed hanging political opponents from cranes. Telles' actions and his history of bad behavior is a perfect example of why we should not brush aside those kinds of comments, especially by (wannabe) public officials. It takes a certain kind of ego to run in an election, but when the candidate is threatening people and has a history of aggression, that's a huge red flag. If the individual doesn't have the resilience to withstand criticism, they are not fit for office.
2. My heart goes out to German's family. This is very, very sad.
No, he didn't. He has liens recorded against his property. And someone one this blog has said someone paid the liens off for him. Can he not manage his money? Did he get caught cheating the IRS? Why did it get so bad that the IRS had to record a lien? That's pretty pathetic.
Idk, seems like an AG who can't balance his personal finances is less dangerous than a wannabe MAGA Republican Robespierre who thinks said AG should be hanging from a crane, fails to do basic opposition research, and blows court deadlines.
Paying taxes rightly owed should be a basic prerequisite to public office. Was there a reason he didn't pay them on time? Did Dennis Prince really pay off his liens for him?
There is no question this race would present a much harder voting choice if the Republicans had nominated pretty much anyone other than their current candidate.
The allegation was that his former employer in the marble palace paid the liens for him.

I think I saw/heard something about an administrative order regarding family courts if representing someone for a limited scope…where can I find the order? Thanks.
12:12: The Supreme Court of Nevada issued an Order Adopting Rule 26 of the District Court Rules in ADKT 0597 on August 16, 2022, which addresses limited scope representations in most types of family law cases, guardianships, and protection orders. Rule 26 takes effect on November 1, 2022 and expires two years later. ADKT 0597 can be found on the Nevada Supreme Court website under the "Court Rules" tab.
Thanks for deleting the nasty posts. It makes me sad people think saying or thinking those things is okay.

Ethics question for the group.
I'm based in Nevada (and only licensed in Nevada) working for a company that has offices across the states. I get a call from Florida asking me to interpret and give guidance on complying with Florida law as it relates to the company's office in Florida.
I'm in a similar spot work wise. What I did (no idea if u will want to) is I emailed the boss – IF this situation was in Nevada here is how it would work but since it is in AZ I don't know because the laws could be different and I'm not licensed there. My goal was to make the boss think I was trying but my hands were tied, keep the email in case someone later said I did something wrong, but also give the boss an out if he wanted to assume the law was the same for example, if it was a really simple thing like the customer didnt pay the deposit and violated the contract and he could probably get out. So my email was something like. If this was in NV we could enforce our contract to not do X (rescind or whatever it was I can;t remember) but u will want to talk to AZ lawyer bc Im not licensdd there – sorry typing on Iphone. Good luck
We also interpret statutes in other states all the time. I service a national practice, and we of course retain local counsel when cases get off the ground, but we regularly interpret other states' statutes.
10:04 and 10:58. Who told you that? You want to believe that simply because you hate democrats and Sisolak. Within 4 seconds you both could have determined that Telles won election in 2018, the same year Sisolak was elected, meaning, of course, Sisolak was not yet Governor when Telles was elected.
But let's say for argument sake that Sisolak did appoint Telles. Are these two posts meant to imply that Sisolak should have known that this appointee would someday murder someone?
The statute governing the Indigent Defense Commission requires that the governor appoint one member from a minority bar association. His name came from the Latino Bar Association.
Sisolak, who is actively campaigning on Biden's name and record?

Will Telles get life with parole after 20 years or life without parole? If he only does 20 years that’s not that bad for premeditated murder. Not sure if the fact that a deadly weapon was used and the victim was over 65 can enhance sentence.
Crim lawyer here. He will likely get 20-life plus 8-20 for the weapon enhancement. He will also have an enhancement for victim over 65, but he will only serve one enhancement. So 28-life is the bottom line. If he goes to trial, he could always get life without too depending on the judge/jury.
Telles: It is first degree murder of the most heinous kind. State will pursue
death penalty. He could get life without the possibility of parole. This is a high profile case. He could very well die in prison and never be released. He could plead guilty and leave the sentencing to the judge where he has a shot at parole.
Not a criminal lawyer. Honest question for 9:00 AM and others. If the sentencing was left to a judge, why on earth would she give him a shot at parole? Our judges are elected and this is a high profile case, a grisly murder and an attack on the First Amendment.
There aren't sufficient aggravators for the state to seek the death penalty here, so I respectfully disagree with 9:00 am. To 5:50 pm, if he is sentenced to 28-life, then he will not be eligible for release before serving every day of the 28 years.
11:43–Telles is a death case. First degree with aggravating cirumstances. The postings, the planning, disguise, the stalking and then the murder itself–brutal 7 stabbings. Victim fought for his life and suffered. High profile victim and defendant. Reporter was working on a second round of stories so Telles decided to act and kill German first.
It's incredibly difficult to commit a murder in Nevada without an aggravating cirumstance, but it looks like Telles (assuming he's guilty) managed to do so. There are no aggravating circumstances (NRS 200.033) for postings, planning, disguises, stalking, or brutality. The closest aggravator would be torture, but this falls short as the number of stab wounds are more consistent with a struggle or ineptness at killing. The prosecution would have to prove that the perpetrator intended to inflict pain beyond the killing itself (look at Domingues v. State 1996). Unless there is something that has not been made public, this does not look like a torture killing. Suffering alone is not enough. Likewise, there is no aggravating cirumstance for high profile victim or defendant.

@11:56, 11:43 here. None of what you posted would be aggravators under the statute. NRS 200.033 lists the only aggravators sufficient to seek the death penalty. There are 15 of them listed in the statute and none of them exist in this case.

Sorry 12:12 PM–See subpart 8-the murder involved torture or mutilation. We ultimately need to see the autopsy but stabbing the victim 7 times is enough. It's a death case that will result in life w/out parole. Telles will die in prison.
It is interesting how quickly even trained lawyers fall to the power of their emotions. Heinous? Yes. Against the Press? Yes. Nasty, nasty human being a murderer? Yes. Aggravating factors? I don't see them.
I actually agree with 718. But, that said, to what extent will politics and media play into this? Wolfson is running for reelection. International publicity. Political implications, powerful popular journalist.
I am siding with the proposition that Wolfson at least announces that he is seeking the DP. But, that is just my opinion.
@8:14 – Wolfson already won reelection. The general is merely a formality in Clark County and the death penalty doesn't play well to a blue base so it wouldn't help him anyway.

It is on the Clark county website. Stop, ACLU. Go save Fremont Street.
The governor appoints to a bunch of boards and commissions. As far as PA, that was elected, not appointed.
Governor appointed him to indigent defense commission, why, not sure since he had no background in that area. Maybe Boyd loyalty from Sisolak's staff?

Damn. All he will do is 20 years for taking out his greatest enemy. That’s crazy. He should never be allowed out.
Only 20 years seems low. Is that really right? Can someone with crim law experience comment on what Telles’s likely sentence will be?
