Sisolak appoints the two least qualified candidates to the bench. Barely ten years of litigation experience. Lmao.

Is there only one Cristina Silva attorney in Nevada? If so, her Avvo profile is all fucked up. This is who is getting appointed to the bench? We are all in trouble.

Another judge who is going to need Google Maps to figure out hot to get to her chambers, having never actually stepped foot in the RJC before.

I don't fault her for the Avvo profile. Looks like it's never been claimed. Screw Avvo anyway.

Seven jury trials?! All federal? Wow. And neither Scow or Speed made it through (among other qualified candidates) which more trial experience. Who is advising Sisolak?

Why are Bluth and Silva the most qualified out of all of the candidates? Want to see evidence. I want to give a standing ovation to the attorneys on the selection panel who ignored evidence.

It's a bit of a crap shoot anyway. Unless I'm in front of Williams, Weise or some Judge with a bit of decorum, my days in court are beginning to be a complete drag. Maybe these ladies won't use the bench as an opportunity to berate lawyers and treat them like children (Gonzales, for example). I'm happy to give them a shot. Bluth's age is the only thing that gives me pause – but whatever.

Gonzalez was partners with ex-felon, Chris Reade, who the bar just reinstated.

What does that have to do with anything related to treating lawyers with decorum?

I have a few criticisms of Silva. While her age gives me pause, I can overlook this. What I cannot overlook is her lack of any experience in State Court. She has been in federal court almost all of her career (She started off in state court, true, but in Florida) which is VERY different than state court. Second, she has only been a member of the Nevada bar for less than four (4) years. Perhaps she may be able to manage a criminal docket but she has never handled a single civil case.

I just received this as a reply to a string of emails in a contentious case where the other lawyers are going back and forth:

“People, I just want to say, you know, can we all JUST get along? Can we get along? Can we stop making it, making it horrible for the older people and the kids? … It’s just not right. It’s not right. It’s not, it’s not going to change anything. We’ll, we’ll get our justice … Please, we can get along here. We all can get along. I mean, we’re all stuck here for a while. Let’s try to work it out. Let’s try to beat it. Let’s try to beat it. Let’s try to work it out.”

Rodney King quoted in an email. Funny, funny stuff.

It's pretty clear that something other than legal knowledge and experience controls these appointments. It's too bad. Let's choose the most qualified candidates, not the ones that meet quotas. Some really good candidates were passed over.

Someone posted that sex and ethnicity went into the decision; that comment was taken down. While I respect the rights of the Blog Admins to edit as they see fit, that appeared to be an entirely fair surmise based upon the lack of qualifications of the two most recent appointees.

I do my best to let everyone have their say on here, whether I personally agree with the position or not. That being said, sometimes the comments, in my opinion, get petty, nasty, bully-ish, bait-ish, and potentially defamatory.

Please do your best to keep it respectful (and maybe even constructive), and I’ll continue to do my best to provide a forum where we can all come to share and learn from each other.
