Crazy guess – Freeman gets the appointment with the promise that he doesn't run in 2024.

Realistic guess – Patti gets the appointment because she's great.

They're going to appoint a sitting judge. If the choice is a white male judge previously appointed by a Republican governor, or any female judge appointed by the same Governor who would be appointing this one – I think we can predict who is going to get appointed. Unless of course, H&S donated a lot to the outgoing Governor's recently failed campaign then the non-judge gets appointed.

Too bad you do not research before you post your ill-informed nonsensical opinions. Governor Sandoval, a Republican, appointed Tierra Jones.

I've never been impressed by Jones as a judge, personally. I have a high opinion of Patty Lee–she is very sharp.

I have been in front of Jones a lot. She despises criminals. She may check some boxes, but her philosophy is very much not in line with what Sisolak might be picturing. She’s also not shy about letting defendants know how she feels which is an attitude related issue.

12:47–It's difficult not to despise many criminals, but I get your point that a judge needs to maintain impartiality and make certain that Defendant's rights are adequately protected, etc.

I predicted these three finalists, and that did not take too much talent. Lee and Jones were obvious, and it made sense that the third person would be Freeman–a northerner, a male(looks good if all the finalists are not of the same gender), and a long-term judge.

But it's between Lee and Jones. Lee would be the better choice, but Jones is the more likely political choice.

And, the appointment process, just like judicial elections, is heavily political, which explains why the best and most experienced finalist is seldom chosen to be the one appointed.

So, Sisolak probably appoints Jones over Lee in a close call. If the appointment were actually put off for a few months, and was to be made by Lombardo, Freeman would in fact have a chance. But I think Sisolak still gets to make this one.

Judge Jones has horrible judicial temperament and her ego is enormous. She also has no civil experience and is not the type who picks things up quickly.

Judge Freeman has the most experience, but he is absolutely awful on criminal cases. He seems to think his job is to be the other prosecutor in the room.

Patricia Lee has the civil experience and the temperament to be a great judge, but she has 0 criminal experience.

Very depressing that these are the best 3 Nevada has to offer.

Not depressed at all. Judge Freeman was a fantastic lawyer and is a very good judge who used to do both civil and criminal defense. But he is 65 and white to replace a seat held by a woman. Judge Jones is in the final 3 because she is and was going to be in the final 3 but was not one of the 3 best choices. Patty Lee is a really good lawyer with national level talent. Surprised she is making the leap directly to the NSC but Pickering pulled it off and so can Lee.

Jones might be a good choice. Let me explain why. This court has been hell bent on reversing convictions of defendants who are so overwhelming guilty of awful crimes including murder on technical grounds. Maybe she could add some sanity to this review. I think it wil be her because she will be the first black female Supreme Court justice. Judge Freeman is a good choice but they are not looking for white males.

Why get mad at the NSC, get mad at either whoever investigated the crime or prosecuted it, not the ref.

2:05-but Pickering made the leap via election. I have never seen someone get appointed to the NSC who did not serve as a District Judge.

I assume it's happened, it's simply that I have not seen it.

It's a major qualification to the person appointing her. Possibly the highest qualification on his list. And likely half of Nevadans (see election results). It also must be highly relevant to Lee, as she said that a reason she wants to be on the high court in her interview.

I love Patricia Lee – let me tell you why. I had a highly contentious case with her and she was professional, zealous for her clients, but at the same time interacted with our firm in an honorable way. I came away from that case thinking – that's how I would like to be. For complete disclosure, I do not know the other people.

Wow they really showed him by barring him from a job that he was never going to hold again anyway. He was not under senior status. Might as well of censured him by prohibiting him from playing in the NFL also.

If I remember correctly, the original judicial charges against him were reported by KSL as Smith now works (or worked) for the Utah County Attorney. To that end, I doubt this is inconsequential. Assuming Smith is still working for Utah County (or any government entity), would expect this to show up in the news and adversely effect his employment and reputation.

This is 635– that is my point. The Commission really did nothing against an opponent who put up no defense. Meanwhile there are sitting judges being accused of bad things; the Commission does nothing.

Doug has to be 70 years old. Did 10 years on the District Court bench for its pension. Did 13 years in Justice Court for its pension. He was working in Utah to simply stay busy. He is just fine.

Doug Smith also worked in the DA's Office. Not sure how many pensions he gets but he was a career government lawyer with 30 years or more of service. Suspects he gets two pensions–one judicial and one DA. Not too shabby.
