Just wait until the HOAs find out what AB396 did to them… Most rental restrictions are tossed out the window in favor of Granny cottages.

Almost should put up the story about CCSD being down over 30,000 students in the last 7 years. Property taxes are around 70% just for CCSD. Students down, property taxes up nearly 20% plus all the NEW buildings. WTH?

It might help if:
– somehow parents become or are forced to discipline and take an active role in their kids education instead of treating school as free childcare.
– If CCSD actually required academic proficiency instead just promoting every student to the next grade.
– if CCSD focused on reading, writing and arithmetic, and for seniors, money management.
You may have noticed the now very large number of private schools in LV.

Charter Schools receive funding from property taxes also. Those enrollment numbers are way up.

For many years to come, CCSD enrollment will continue to decline while charters increase. CCSD could not exist without charters. Charter schools act as a release valve that removes pressure from parents that would not tolerate CCSD. If we didn’t have charter schools, CCSD would have been broken up years ago. The parents would have demanded it, and IMO, would have overpowered the entrenched powers (administrators union, teachers union, etc).

As I recall, on 48% of CCSD grads can read at grade level, math is only 25%, and I don’t think CCSD teaches any civics (citizenship, how our government works, etc.)

Contrary – Charter schools hasten the decline of public schools. Charter schools can decline enrollment. Thus people who need an IEP or extra attention can be turned away. Thus the extra cost for these students are spread across less students, decreasing the funds for the reamining operations.

Charter schools can’t turn down IEPs. They also have a much easier time getting rid of poor teachers.

Tough shit. The decline of our public school is inevitable. Burn it down and start over.

All three advance opinions are up on the Nevada Supreme Court’s website now. NRS629.620 ruling, a partial Anti SLAPP ruling on how fees are calculated and a criminal hit and run case

Re: Inmate deaths.

Child molesters have earned our contempt. But we don’t sentence them to death. Or maybe we should be honest with ourselves that we do and codify it. Make the judge read out a sentence of “15 years, if you are able to avoid being murdered by other inmates.”

The frequency of deaths at Nevada prisons is alarming. The prisons almost never provide a cause of death, unless its something that doesn’t implicate them like suicide or a natural death. I always interpret “no cause of death given” as a homicide.

It is more alarming that there is almost zero information about all these deaths and the stats around them. How do we compare with other places?

So there was a reference earlier this week to an act of heroism in Bankruptcy Court. Matt Johnson and David Winterton were in trial when David had a medical episode. Matt provided first aid until first responders arrived and most likely saved David’s life. David is doing much better I am pleased to say. Kudos to Matt.

Can verify. Matt is a great guy, as is David. Prayers for David and sincere gratitude to Matt. Quite literally saved David’s life.
