Seems like all that bickering over being a Leavitt was pointless. It didn’t help either of them win.

That’s because neither of them are real Leavitts. Hahaha.

I voted against Madilyn Fitzpatrick Cole based solely on this issue.

Madilyn is Judge Michelle Leavitt’s daughter. Justice Leavitt’s granddaughter. How is she not a real Leavitt?

Linda Bell was born to Stewart Bell and has been legally named Bell at various times in her life. Madilyn Fitzpatrick was born to Michelle Fitzpatrick nee Michelle Leavitt. Michelle changed her name back to Michelle Leavitt. Michelle and Linda both use names that they were and are legally entitled to use.

Madilyn has never been and is not currently named Leavitt. If Madilyn would have advertised that she came from a long line of the Leavitt family, I would have had no objection to that. But to claim that her name is Leavitt is false.

Clark County voters don’t deserve Terry Coffing. It’s astonishing how bad the electorate is in picking judges. Astonishing, but not surprising.

It appears the bench will continue to be very criminal and very female.

I think you’re confusing campaigning with advertising. He didn’t do anything – no campaign fundraisers, no digital ads, phone calls, canvassing, actual ads, no text messages, no events attended with the exception of a couple, didn’t seek endorsements and just put his name on the ballot. We have seen several races where putting your name on the ballot and doing *nothing* has actually worked and can only name one judge who that worked for. I see a lot of bring back the civil bench comments but the civil bench has to come to grips with actually campaigning and talking to voters who are outside the legal world.

I actually saw some videos on facebook that he did. And a friend said they got a recorded call from his campaign. But I only saw him at one bar function and he really looked like he mailed it in. Which is disappointing. I think he would make a good judge

Yes, and they still vote. The reasons could be “I’m voting for a woman”, “I’m voting for a man”, “this is the first name on the ballot”, “my name is *name of candidate*”.

So again, you want to bring back the civil bench, you have to talk to or get your name out to everyday people.

I don’t have a problem with a female bench per se. I have a problem with voting for a female on that alone. As a strident feminist, I don’t see how it serves our interests or our cause to vote for dumb women. We’ve got some real winners down in family court. One was even reprimanded for incompetence. The same is happening at the RJC with the civil and crim benches. Coffing should have won and he had my vote and the vote of everyone who asked me which judges to vote for. We need good judges…male and female alike. I agree representation matters, but not when the representation is incompetent.

I’ll say it again. Coffing should have actually campaigned if he wanted it. He simply didn’t. It’s hard enough to beat an incumbent but thinking you’re going to do it just sitting on the couch, ain’t going to happen.

I can’t believe Family Court judge Paul Gaudet lost last night. Of course, he lost to an under-funded and not qualified female opponent. It should say on the ballot in a judicial race which candidate is the incumbent as we are losing a good judge to a candidate that will have a huge learning curve backed by Legal Aid. I guess the voters will have to vote out Kerri in a couple of years. Dept N deserves better. And no, my name is not Paul or Mark.

I agree with you. The family court bench has too many judges with no actual domestic experience. I know some people have issues with Gaudet, but I was really encouraged by his position on some critical issues like the over reliance of family court judges on bought-and-paid-for outsourced providers. I guess that’s family court for you. Poke your head up and you get wacked. It’s happened to good judges before so we keep getting more of the same.

Maybe there needs to be a revamp with law firms and campaign donations. Clearly the bar didn’t want civil bench back whether or not they campaigned. Campaigns shouldn’t be based on how many signs and how much you pay for advertisements either though it helps.

So congrats on having yet female bench of criminal law backgrounds.

I look forward to 2026. It’s not over. Maybe Coffing, 3rd time is a charm and he should jumpstart. Adam Ganz kept running and he got the commish spot (not sure if appointed or elected.)

There is no such thing as price gouging. Prices are set by what the market will support. If someone is willing to pay more than you, it’s probably because they want or need the item more than you. Artificial price lowering will just distort the market so someone who doesn’t really need or want an item as badly as you can get it at a huge discount if they get in line first (or have some connection) and then either waste it or resell it and realize part of the profit that the original seller should have had. There is a single cause of a general rise in prices and wages, and that is inflation. Inflation is an increase in the supply of money and credit via money printing or fractional reserve banking. Those things happen because it is the best way for the government to finance its spending beyond the ability to tax directly. But inflation is an indirect tax. It taxes your currency and your savings. The way to stop inflation is to stop inflating, which means stopping deficit spending, which means stopping government largesse. It could be done in months if there was the political will. Maybe now there is.

“There is no DEI woke trans moral decay.” Keep telling yourself that, you’re driving the electorate right into the arms of people like Trump, and Boebert, and MTG.

All you have to do is live and let live. Just leave it alone. Straight people don’t jam straightness down others’ throats. When you violently insist upon special rights for the alphablet people, expect consequences.

Popular speech needs no protection. Only unpopular speech needs government protection. Popular people can life their life without the fear of oppression.

So when you claim “the alphabet people” are violently demanding special rights, consider that they are simply unpopular and what seems to be them demanding special rights is just them asking to live their life without the fear of oppression.

I mean, it wasn’t the alphabet people running trans-panic political ads 24/7.

I am a Republican but your analysis is partially flawed. People care about the economy. The GOP’s fascination with “DEI/woke/trans” was not what moved the needle. The Dems’ at times singular focus on abortion was not what moved the needle. Abortion rights won in states that still voted Red at the top of the ticket. People have feelings on social issues but were not voting social issues when choosing candidates yesterday.

1. It is Carville’s overused line but truly “It is the Economy, Stupid.”
2. Secondarily the Democrats chose the wrong candidate. Not because she ran a bad race. She ran a fantastic race under the circumstances. Much better than I ever thought she could or would run. Not because she was a gaffe-prone idiot. But last night showed that it did not matter how strong of a campaign she ran, the electorate was not generally going to vote for a Kamala Harris. I suspect that if the D Party could go back and choose a candidate who was more palatable to the general electorate, they would in a heartbeat. There are candidates in that party who could have run a much less effective race and still won. We can admit that we wish we were a society where that is not still the case in 2024; but that is still the case in 2024.

Mostly agree. GOP recruited Latino voters who are largely Catholic and that’s going to continue. Some leftists openly espouse anti-Christian and antisemitic hate. I’m not a Republican but I find that repulsive. Tim Walz is the worst candidate I have personally ever seen. Remember that Harris chose him over Shapiro to appease the Hamas cheerleader crowd. As Gov of PA, Shapiro might have delivered PA but we’ll never know. Trump had a well-developed plan to increase votes among men, rural residents, and Hispanics. It worked.

1:10 didn’t stutter. The current Democratic party is, at best, slightly left of political center, if not actually to the right.

Traditional rednecks, meaning the ones who worked in mines and literally battled against corporate mine owners for their right to unionize, spilling their own blood along the way, are significantly more the the left. Do you see anyone actively campaigning on nationalizing.. well, anything? Aggressively unionizing as a means of exerting full worker control over the industry, instead of minor improvements in conditions and pay? Even the health care proposals were always a parallel system, instead of a genuine “the private health care system in place is genuinely evil, and needs to be torn down as a public nuisance and the mechanisms placed in public hands.”

The problem is that today’s Republican party is so far to the right that they cast anything they oppose as “left.” Anti-immigrant (legal or otherwise), anti-trade, protectionist, nationalists. That’s why their squawking about “socialism” is just so much noise.

This is what I’m talking about. The Democrats don’t even let progressives and leftists have a seat at their table, and they certainly don’t adopt any progressive or leftist ideas into their platform.

But it doesn’t matter. Most conservatives/Republicans think the DNC platform is socialism. I’m not even saying those people are uninformed. I get why they think that.

It’s all just vibes. The Dems in Congress don’t accomplish progressive reforms ever. The ones running have stopped even appeasing the part of the base left of the party.

If you’re going to be called a socialist as an epithet it would be nice if you actually tried a little socialism from time to time. Instead, they’re just the not mean choice for corporate donorship.

For the record I have been an DJT fan for decades. I have followed Trump through the news both tabloid and mainstream since his divorce from Ivana. Today and going forward, is not a time to gloat. This is a time to show good behavior, empathy, and civility. Think about how your fellow American is feeling; they may feel devastated, disenfranchised, and hurt. Red and Blue alike, all care about our families and our country.

Well it kinda is, climate change and all. But climate policy will be set back substatively, thus worsening the impending serious disasters, not just for you, but all children and grandchildren.

I sincerely hope DJT does not go off the rails, having illustrated there is literally no conduct sufficient to bring him any consequences. I’m reminded of Plato’s invisible ring thought experiment. If you face no consequences for conduct in office (thank you Supreme Court), what will stop him from pursuing self motivated conduct that would be at odds with the general good?

NLG and ACS were nearly completely comprised of this type of person. Remember the dumb ass “open letters” they would send out? Lol

Judicial elections do not work. Objectively better candidates lost last night. The general populous isn’t qualified to elect judges.

It is impossible to vote for judges – particularly in Clark County were there are so many departments. Even as a 20-year litigation attorney I haven’t worked with or seen many of them – particularly the family court judges who are routinely called out on this blog. I’m not opposed to DAs and PDs becoming civil judges, but at least have them vetted at some level. Form a non-partisan commission to appoint and then have a retention vote. If a judge gets enough bad publicity they can be removed by the electorate.

Erm, you mean like the one they have now in charge of appointments? 7 people to control the gates.

Yeah, the Judicial appointment committee. Not a fan. They are more concerned with whether you have a comma out of place in your application than if you are really truly qualified. If you have ever sat in the hot seat with that committee, you know of what I speak…

No, your “lefty friends” are not claiming it was stolen so just stop it. It’s not the left that seeks to sow doubt about elections.

Sow doubts…
That theme is “so yesterday”. What affirms the “tax and spend” moniker of the left party is the failed candidate’s and current president’s, efforts to pander and buy votes. $25K to buy a house, forgive student loans, clamp down on greedy landlords, build 3 million new homes, tax the rich for their “fare share” (a term which no Dem has ever defined). The money for this of course comes from those of us who actually pay taxes or by borrowing more money from China via T-Bills.

why deny something that is obvious, whoever loses likes to claim fraud, how do you know what the op’s friends are saying, you don’t, so don’t be dumb

Perhaps you have a short memory. But HRC claimed then and claims now the election was stolen from her. I am not a republican, but let’s just be honest and not tribal. A pox on both houses. And yes, I have seen plenty of voices on X claiming the numbers don’t add up and there are fishy things suggesting the republicans stole the votes. let’s just stop the nonsense

One of the saddest things for me is the loss of Joe Sciscento from the Justice Court bench. Excellent judge and a great guy. People don’t realize what they did.

Yes and Paul Gaudet too. A lot of people just pick names without knowing anything about them and it’s sad

Huge loss for an attorney who attorneys in her own office find incompetent for most part.

Plus Bradford originally told people she was “helping” Joe to split the vote with Bravo but started campaigning hard once she realized she could win.

Probably the biggest shock of the election and a colossal loss for the community.
