What I find interesting in that GOP Governor Primary is that former U.S. Senator Dean Heller disappeared with a dreadful fourth place showing, tallying like less than 10% of the vote.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Well, he never seemed to really bond with Nevadans or the voting public. He was appointed in 2011 to finish John Ensign's term. The next year, 2012, he ran for a term in his own right but barely beat Shelly Berkley–like by just 1%, and then in 2018 he got taken out by Jackie Rosen–who was hardly a political force of nature being a rookie Congresswoman.
I always though Heller(even though I'm a Dem.) was a reasonably decent Senator, but obviously a lot of people disagreed. Perhaps him getting on Trump's
bad side did not help his 2018 re-election chances.
I always though that some of Heller's moderate views should have been considered reasonable by both major parties, but I guess nether party any longer has much tolerance for moderates in their ranks.
Heller was never a great senator. Moderation is good and will get you elected in a purple state, but he always came across as a waffler instead of a moderate. He'd adopt the most politically expedient position day-to-day.
I'm happy to throw dirt on his grave but Heller was undefeated until 2018 – Assembly, SOS, US House, US Senate. So it's still surprising to see him get wrecked by someone like Joey Gilbert.
He was undefeated by running in the safest of safe races.

I share 12:25's view that it is a bit surprising that he seems to have very little remaining political juice, and that his weak showing was a little surprising for a former U.S. Senator who did not leave office under the shroud of any real controversy(unlike his predecessor).
On the other hand, some view him as 12:28 does, and that can be a factor in this day and age where it is fashionable to attach our support to so-called political outsiders, and avoid the career politician types.
And, although with his supposed name-recognition one would have expected him to perform considerably better in the Primary, he did not seem to have much of a campaign or media presence. Saw many t.v. ads and large signs for Lombardo, as well as some for Lee and Gilbert, but I saw very little visible advertising by Heller.
Another problem for Heller is that he alienated both sides of the Trump polarized universe. When the Access Hollywood video came out, he made an appearance with Mitt Romney correctly denouncing Trump. Then when Trump survived, he suckled on to the MAGA teet. I am a former Republica, a NeverTrumper and look at Heller and the way he just through principle out the window and can confidently tell you he has no backbone and that I will never vote for him in any campaign ever again. Put in simpler terms, who exactly is in Heller's constituency? It's not Trumpers. It's not NeverTrumpers. It's nobody. He tried to have it both ways. His career is over.
1:11 is right that his political career is probably over. Whether his career is over for the reasons offered by 1:11(which appear sound), or primarily for other reasons, is sort of an academic argument at this point because, as established by his very poor showing, it is over and he can never be viable again(at least not for such a major office).
Perhaps he could succeed on a much smaller level–State Assembly or State Senate. But once one has been on the national political stage, they are seldom interested in starting over form the very bottom. And since he is no longer that young a man, he arguably cannot re-build by starting at that basic level.
I agree with 12:25 that he would sometimes espouse some safe-sounding, middle of the road, moderate viewpoints that were hard to take offense with. But I think that was done for the reasons suggested by 1:11, that being that he wanted it both ways a lot of the time and thought he could mollify both sides and keep everyone placated.

The biggest story of the day is Assange is being extradited to the USA for the crime of exposing USA government crimes. Will Antifa take to the streets to protest this vile fascism? Even I'd consider donning a black mask for this. The man did nothing wrong, except expose crimes.
Where's the THWACKKKK! guy/gal?

He actually came in third place with the state-wide totals.
