David Clark is a great person. The push for well-being in the practice is long overdue. I hope he's an agent for change– and more 3 day weekends!

He was so much an agent for reasonableness and change that he was pushed out at the State Bar and replaced by the current Star Chamber regime. David is a great person interested in the best interests of the profession and professionals and that cost him his job.

Nice spin by Josh and the RJ RE: Milam fraud lawsuit. The city lost that fraud claim on MSJ, then Harry tied up the transfer of the property from BLM to Milam in order to force a settlement on the other claims. Dirty politics.

Everything about Josh and COH was daddy's juice. For him to claim that his screwing of Milam was a victory is a joke. He lost his ass in court and had to run to Harry to save face.

Josh is a nice get for L&R. Obviously good insight into municipal/county issues, and I think he had a decent energy/regulatory practice at BHFS. Regardless of how he got the city job, he can now take that experience to the private sector.

Who is the last person who came out of the COH City Attorney's Office with any juice from the office (not talking about his family juice)? Shauna Hughes? That office is a shitshow and has been for over a decade.

The RJ quotes him – “I learned a long time ago not to take things personally,” Reid said. “Most of the criticism was not about me. It was about my father."
He can't really think the main reason people criticize him is because of his father. He's earned the majority of criticism on his own.

The Copperfield trial is a humdinger. Out-of-state counsel on both sides and a very fatigued judge.

Would love to hear more about this. The RJ has done a good job with the basics, but any inside dirt on counsel tactics etc? I know plaintiff's counsel is an NYC plaintiff's lawyer…

Watched a bit of it. Defense counsel are California and plaintiff's counsel is New York. Plaintiff is a clown. Seems like Denton is doing all he can to hold the thing together; but it's mostly a shit show. Would not be surprised if the jury goes big.

To:11:54:Do you feel that way simply because they are the Reids, or do you feel that way about all democrats? I bet it is both. You hate the Reids, but also you just tend to vote for republicans, and seldom, if ever, vote for democrats.

If there were a republican political family, who behave the same way with political juice and favoritism as you indicate the Reids do, that would be fine with you as long as the family were right-wing republicans.

You will certainly be offended and take issue with this and claim I am assuming a lot about you without knowing you and that what I assume is all untrue. Okay. Fine. tT allow me to ask you what percentage of the time you vote for the democrat over the republicans.

I am not defending the family or their actions. But people like you don't analyze the actions, and don't then reach a well-reasoned opinion. Instead, you assume the actions are nefarious because you dislike this family and the political party they belong to.

I am not 11:54 but I can tell you that I feel the same way about the Laxalts. I feel the same way about the Woodburys. I feel the same way about the Morrises in Boulder City. It is not a side of the aisle issue. Its dirty, family politics and juice that is disgusting on all of these fronts.

Wow. Just picked up this month's Nevada Lawyer. In it, Gene Leverty makes the astounding claim that the BoG earns disapproval from members of the bar "some of which simply don't want to admit they did wrong, because they do not want to step up and handle their own obligations." Gene, you cuntwaffle. The BoG earns our displeasure because it is increasingly obvious that the State Bar is nothing but a kingdom-building fiefdom and a political stepping stone. You take our dues and squander them, while providing very little of value to the legal profession.

Are you (bleeping) kidding me? You miserable piece of (well that's too graphic). Talk about being completely out of touch with your membership you miserable piece of garbage. What obligations are we not admitting that we did wrong? If you have someone who did wrong, then audit them. But you aren't. You aren't using the weapons at your disposal. You aren't using the powers given to the BoG or OBC for the betterment of the Bar. You are incredibly out of touch with your membership. Seriously Gene you need to not only resign from the BoG (yeah yeah I know you are off the board in 2 months) but leave the State of Nevada.

@4:29; I don't think the point that Leverty makes or your points made here are mutually exclusive. Many of the disciplined attorneys blame everyone and everything but their own actions for their discipline. Similarly, the BoG is a kingdom-fiefdom and political stepping stone squandering financial resources which provides little to no real benefits to anyone but the bar leadership elite.

The primary responsibility of the bar is the admission, regulation and discipline of the attorneys of the state. Quite frankly, it is not their responsibility to promote the industry or the economic interests of its membership anymore than it is for the DMV to promote the private interests of commercial truckers.

If the attorneys wish to have a trade group promoting their image and interest, they should establish a voluntary association to do that. There are already many rudimentary, uncoordinated entities doing that (e.g. Clark County Bar, Washoe Bar, various voluntary sections of the state bar, etc.)

Much as I regularly criticize California and the things that it does, I think they got this one right by splitting their state bar into 2 components: a mandatory bar for licensing and discipline, and 2) a voluntary bar for the promoting and economic interests of its membership.

10:46– You indicate "Many of the disciplined attorneys blame everyone and everything but their own actions for their discipline." Who are these attorneys because I have not experienced that sentiment on this page? The sentiment that I have routinely seen is that attorneys are reticent to admit mistakes and to cooperate with the OBC when to do so is to subject oneself to a ridiculously out of touch organization who has no concept of fairness, consistency and justice. Are you discounting disputing the numerous posters on here who have indicated that maybe there are issues not with attorneys taking responsibility but that the system is horribly broken and wildly inconsistent?

To be clear, when I said using the powers of the BoG and OBC for the betterment of the Bar, I never mentioned promoting image and interests (although we are already paying for the BoG to promote their own image and interests–see Wall of Presidents). What I was discussing is using the discipline process to remove attorneys who are a threat to the public while working to rehabilitate and return attorneys who made a mistake (often without any victims) but who right now are ostracized from the system. What Leverty is saying is that the problem is not with BoG or OBC, which turns a blind eye and deaf ear to very patent and very profound problems.
