Didn't know there was an *all* lawyer band in town. Cool. I do know a few lawyers who play music and do theater though. Gotta do something other than swim in the money pool.
i dont think the drummer is a lawyer. but either way it wouldve been way cooler if they named themselves "personal injury" since the lawyers in the band practice that field
Missed opportunity to call themselves the "Attractive Nuisances," but I like the name. I've been to a couple shows and they're solid (especially compared to some other bands in the local music scene).
Super cool. I hope they post their upcoming shows on here.
Yeah super cool is right. Props to the Cracker cover on their website. I'll go see them
The Lone Rangers
There's five of them. They're not exactly lone.
"John Courtney and the Funky Bunch" must have been taken
Lost Vagrants will be headlining a show at Rockstar Bar on 1/14 with Suburban Resistance and 90 Proof opening. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite or at the door for 5 dollars more, or you could just ask one of the Lost Vagrants to add you to the no-cover VIP List. They are also headlining a free show at the all-new downtown Sand Dollar in the Plaza on 1/28 with Divided by Stereo (featuring Attorney Brian Boyer). You can follow them on Instagram or FB for future show dates, times and locations.
The flu knocked me out for a week. Get your flu shots and cover your mouth when you cough. It is no joke this year.
Got the bivalent booster and the flu shot at the same time. So far so good, but long way to go…
I take copious amounts of Vitamin D and K2 and hit the gym every day. Fingers crossed.
I got my flu shot. Still debating on the booster, which would be shot #4 for me. Waiting to see how the numbers keep tracking locally. I might have had something this past week, but honestly too mild to tell what, if anything more than an allergy.
It is pretty complicated with taking nutrients to boost your immunity to flu's and colds. Vitamin C, fresh source of Vt. C with citrus pulp, Vitamin D, fresh air, sunshine, Quercetin, Zinc, and baby aspirin. But got to wash hands and face (around nose and mouth). Use mouthwash. Netti pot. And the most important is to avoid sick people. That one is the wild card.
Just FYI: I'm 61 had first 3 shots, got Covid and felt like dying, literally on my hands and knees crawled down hall to restroom because I could not stand up, very bad
44 years old here and my first covid was like 2:12. Second time was a normal cold. Here's to hoping that's the norm.
Just got over COVID. It was not fun. Flu shot scheduled. Not leaving the house much until then. Lots of people are sick right now.
Cannot believe we traded the Merchant of Death for Brittney Griner and left a U.S. Marine to rot in a Russian prison.
Of course they did, basketball is far more important than anything having to do with patriotism
Trevor Reed.
A court martialed marine or are they all full fledged heroes?
I also cannot believe it. I'm shocked they'd trade this guy for someone who doesn't even like America.
Candidly there is no political capital in pushing for Paul Whelan. We did not care about him before Griner was arrested. We cared about him for a little bit after she got arrested. But he has no political capital compared to Griner so we do not care about him now. We will hear little of him for the next 12 years assuming he lives that long.
Frankly we should have tied the trade for Bout to Whelan and offered up a drug convict for Griner. But in a trade that would make VGK proud, we traded something big for something not very important.
This whole thread is gross. The Whelan family released a statement regarding BG's release. Read it. BG does not hate America. Protest is fundamental to who we are as Americans…or did you miss that day in history class? This was a happy day for BG and for America. Biden has promised to keep working on bringing home Whelan and other Americans unjustly detained in other countries. Given his record of delivering thus far, I suggest we take him at his word and keep calling our representatives and keep the pressure on to bring Mr. Whelan home. We can still celebrate BG's return in the meantime.
Explain for us, 7:01, why Griner's detention was "unjust".
Has anyone signed up for health insurance through the State Bar's insurance marketplace? Is it any different than the state exchange? Any better discounts?
If it's not any different and doesn't have any discounts, what's the point?
It is so scammy of them to push something other than the exchange. I have reported them for it before but no luck. Stick to the exchange.
Thank you. Just out of curiosity, who did you report them to and for what exactly?
It seems a little scammy – the SBN must be getting something out of it, but as far as I can tell, it's basically the same as the state exchange. At least for Obamacare plans. Maybe they are getting a slice of the non-ACA plans or something. *shrug*
The State Bar health insurance program over the years has been very good. The Exchange got better and caught up. Years ago before Obama Care they offered hard to get programs. Doubt the State Bar got anything out of it just brought on brokers. The same with the malpractice insurance.
Rumor is ATMS will be handing out packing boxes for Christmas this year. Will they have one last Christmas party in the basement before closing up?
Hasn't this been a rumor for years?
Considering ATMS lost their building (and "the basement") 5 years ago and now rents space above a gym, I am pretty sure that there will not be a party in the basement unless they get permission from Eddie Haddad to borrow the old abandoned clubhouse.
The only partner over there doing actual legal work is Kurt Bonds. Bruce, LeAnn, and Eric haven't really worked in years. Website has them down to 7 associates. That's an all-time low. Wouldn't be surprised if the rumors are true.
Looks like both Jon Owens and Karie Wilson left for Messner Reeves.
I'd just like to point out that their Google My Business entry lists them as an "attorney referral service." Ouch.
Interviewed at ATMS ~1.5 years ago for a first year associate position. Of the 4 firms that extended job offers, ATMS had the highest billable requirement and offered the lowest salary. Even better, Eric Taylor was supposed to interview me but (per the receptionist) he had gotten sick, taken too much cold medicine, and fallen asleep at his desk…
ATMS didn't LOSE their building. They stovepiped it to the bank after the crash. Of course, this was after negotiating a release from the bank of the partners from their personal guarantees.
The Montecito Building is pretty nice, actually. But, yes, ATMS is not long for this world. Just cant happen. As for 1041, my story is exactly the same, but occurred in 1998. Of course, I actually interviewed with Eric and thankfully, got several much better offers.
Thoughts on Dean Smith getting the pro bono program renamed? I still remember when she lectured female law students on dressing modestly.
I'm no prude, but I was on her side for that one. Had a few women show up to some law school event with their entire breast exposed, seriously, 80% out. Saw her given them a stern talking to about dressing professionally. It was entirely unprofessional.
Personally, I think it would be nice to see more side boob in the legal profession.

Wouldn't it have been fun if she had filed it in EDCR, lost, appealed it, and lost the appeal?
