Not NV but — is anyone else still following this absolute disaster in SDTX BK court with former Judge Jones’ very questionable decision not to disclose his romantic relationship & the UST’s subsequent request to disgorge 13 mil in fees from his girlfriend’s ex-firm as a result?

I’ve never seen anything like it, even after a year I’m still shocked at the hubris & stupidity. I practice BK but not complex (or even simple) 11s — so I’m wondering what people think the odds are that the UST actually manages to get reversal orders for those fees.

Bloomberg has done a bunch of reporting about it, here’s the first article (I think) and the rest are linked.

And here’s a recent one from Reuters confirming there’s a criminal investigation too:

I’m sure like me everyone is worn out by the week+ of Telles trial, but he did an interview with Court TV. It’s on youtube and it’s delusional. He’s “glad the public was able to hear his side of the story.”

Not really friend. It would b very hard to admit that all that’s left is a cement cell, sexual abuse (not funny), and no career etc , probably a coping mechanism

Watched the trial when I could. Wonder if the result would have been different if he did not come up with the conspiracy and Compass. Would it have been better if he did not testify at all?

It would have been better had he never testified but it would not have changed the result.

That’ll be a big what-if in this case: Would Draskovich have hung the jury had Telles’s ego and narcissism not gotten in the way with him insisting on testifying? We probably won’t have any meaningful insight into that unless some of the jurors grant interviews, especially the initial holdouts.

I don’t think he ever can, he’s buried in the lie and can never dig out. If he was willing to admit it, I think the DA might have agreed to 20-life (based solely on the DA sentencing closing argument). With the enhancement he dies in prison.

He’s been on the jailhouse media circuit today. I’ve noticed he granted interviews to our CBS and NBC affiliates in addition to Court TV. He’s probably granting interviews to anyone who wants one. Delusional may be the best word for it.

the fact that Telles just refuses to STFU, whether it be at the beginning of this whole thing, to leading up to the trial, during the trial, and now AFTER the verdict…just goes to show how narcissist this guy really is.

also as a matter of hindsight, i feel that if he didnt cycle through 100+ lawyers before settling on Draskovich, they would have had presented a stronger defense and maybe even gotten some type of expert to do comparsion between the HAIR and NO HAIR analysis to show it was someone else driving. who knows. all i know is that telles just doesnt know when to STFU and doesnt realize hes digging a deeper hole everytime he talks

Dear Municipalities and Utilities who are spending $1000 in time and monies to assert a claim for $308 in an interpleader case- what are you doing?

Where are you getting 1000? Municipality and utility attorneys are in-house with no extra fees and the cities get a fee waiver for filing.

OP is apparently a PI attorney who takes loser cases. Because nobody should get butthurt about a creditor asserting a claim for money they’re entitled to–especially government entities. Otherwise that’s just taxpayers subsidizing PI attorneys, their clients, and their bad business decisions.

“There was a lot. That’s why it took them three days,” said Draskovich. “They were concerned with Robert Telles’ testimony. They watched the video that he was adamant they watch, they viewed it and it didn’t help his case.”

That is some of the most explicit throwing your client under the bus I have ever seen. Not that Telles doesn’t deserve it.

Draskovich has stated there will be an appeal but it will be with another lawyer. He knows that his time is done here. He can be circumspect without disclosing A/C privileged communications. It is a fair comment. Reminds me of a football coach who can truthfully state that his QB audibled into the wrong play.

I watched part of his jailhouse interview on court tv. Rob Telles is a disgusting narcissist. I hope the German family knows that the community supports them and does not believe a word he says. Watching Jeff’s siblings talk about losing him was heartbreaking. I can’t imagine the pain they feel.

More than one thing can be true at a time. He is a pos. Maybe it’s bc I’m old now but it is sad for his family, his wasted life, Telles kids, etc. there is obviously something very wrong with him. But we can try to rise to a level where we say yes he needs to go away but the whole thing is sad all the way around. Telles children didn’t ask to have a murderer for a dad.

I am turning a (very) small corner on Rob. He is mentally ill. Not so mentally ill as to escape responsibility and sentencing. But he is not right. You can listen and hear someone who simply now is a circus freak show.

In spite of the damage Telles did by testifying, Draskovich still damn near hung that jury. Amazing.

Not a huge endorsement of the jury system or eyewitness testimony when an interview of 3 jurors 48 hours after an event gives you three different versions of key events. But they got the case right.

Dear Nevada Jurists:

If you have a Motion on your Chambers Calendar that asks for three different types of relief in the alternative and that has a countermotion that asks for two types of alternative relief, a Minute Order that states nothing more than “After reviewing the Points and Authorities, Motion Granted”(without any mention of which alternative motions and which alternative forms of relief) is so lazy and so clearly indicates that you never actually read the motion and countermotion to even know what you are ruling on. Do better.

Think of this as a race-notice situation. First party to get their Order signed wins.

This is unfortunately our judiciary. They dont read the motions and will not read the Order. Whatever Order the “prevailing” party submits will get signed. I have about 3 different departments that this could be.

The Telles case shows how the DA’s decision on to whether to seek the death penalty is completely arbitrary

How so? Only certain aggravating circumstances render murder in the first degree death penalty eligible. https://www.leg.state.nv.us/nrs/nrs-200.html#NRS200Sec033

Which one or more applied here?
