Golden Season

  • Law

The Golden Knights’ season came to an end last night, bringing their inaugural season to a close. And what a season it was. Also coming to an end soon is primary election season, thankfully. Any last minute pitches for your favorite candidate? Anything else going on out there today?

Dear Admin, I was the poster of 12:20 that has been removed. I am not sure what constituted removal, as it didnt name anyone or anything in particular, and was just making a joke about the ironies of being distracted.

I am so sorry I voted for Quinn, I was confused. Just like I am sorry for the Harry Reid vote, too.

Can you call your vote back? And then, pause before sending. Both poor choices.

Where is the "hand in the cookie jar" person? I miss his/her copy and paste

I posted yesterday's cookie jar comment which was my first. I posed my comment yesterday as I grow tired of individuals who merely have an axe to grind anonymously attacking those they do not know and without knowing the facts behind Bar Counsel's actions. I personally know both individuals who have been suspended as well as several individuals at Bar Counsel's office. Those who were suspended or relieved of their license had violated our ethical rules and deserved their fate, and in my opinion worse. I also know Stan and that he was not head hunting as implied by someone yesterday. If you do not agree with the actions of Bar Counsel, I would encourage you to speak with members of the BOG, Bar Counsel and vote for other BOG members as 10:21 encourages above. What should be discouraged is cowardly seeking to defame people on this blog. Cheers.

Seriously. People are now "defaming" OBC by pointing out specific facts and problems they have with its actions? And by enjoying some healthy cynicism and gallows humor on the topic? And if they do that they are also guilty of having their hands "in the cookie jar," aside from just their regular icky old badthink. So much defamation! #doyouevenlawyerbro

I have not seen anyone point out specific instances of actions they believe were improper by OBC. If you have specific examples please point them out along with the basis in our Rules or the law as to what makes those actions improper. Otherwise, do us all a favor and move along.

What good does that do when OBC and NSC refuse to read it…..

12:56 thank you, you are correct
1:05 sorry but (philosophy major here) problems can be addressed on different levels of specificity, for example problems need to be viewed all the way from the macro to the micro and each has value depending on the goal i.e., discussing the role of the Bar may be done in general, sweeping concepts whereas arguing a specific infraction requires micro analysis of an individual's actions. You seem to fault people who want to discuss the role of the Bar, the overwhelming consensus that Stan's motives appeared to be less than honorable, and how to better the Bar because they do not provide names and dates. My unsolicited advice – engage in the discussions you wish and argue on the level that the argument requires. I just don't think the knee-jerk condemnation helps your argument. For example, I do not wish to offend you as I prefer to persuade you honestly and sincerely to join my side and have a Bar that is truly just. Of course, the guilty should be removed and the public protected but sometimes the "where there is smoke …" argument works. Ask yourself, are ALL of these people "in the cookie jar" or do some of us just really care?

“1:05, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by lawyers with arguments. Whose gonna do it? You? Stan? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You weep for the Bar, and you curse the bloggers. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Stan leaving, while tragic, probably saved careers. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves careers. I know deep down in places you dont talk about at parties, you want me at the Bar, you need me at the Bar. I prefer you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you develop an accurate assessment of the Bar, and stand your post.”

As a VGK season ticket holder, I must say I have been awe of everything. I initially bought the tickets to mostly sell them or go to some select games. But after Route 91 and how the season progressed, I felt that each game was priceless and couldn't be sold. Although I spent way more money than I wouldve liked to (the tix, incidental costs, playoff costs, etc) it was a ride of a lifetime and something I am glad I did.

I also realized that winning the Stanley Cup wouldve been nice, but not necessary. We won at everything else: proving ourselves as a real sports market, proving to ourselves of our sense of community, proving that we can all rally around something so unfamiliar like hockey, and proving our team can fight and stand tall with the rest of them. Just like Rocky lost, he still proved he could go the distance and hold his own; and to him, that was the real win. I am proud of VGK and our city for their commitment to the team, and I can't wait to spend all my money again next year.

I have to say that I'm kinda pissed at you for making the right decision to buy the season tickets when you did, because I saw the price on those tickets at the beginning of the season and thought, "Hell no, they'll suck this year and the tickets will be selling at 50% off next year." I definitely made the wrong call on that one.

But yeah, I agree with everything you said. I've lived in Vegas for 15 years and I always knew this town needed a sports team to rally around to make use feel like a "hometown" that people could be proud of. Unfortunately, it also took the Route 91 tragedy to do the same thing. Before then, it seemed like everybody here was a transplant from somewhere else and Vegas was always their temporary home.
