Just FYI – Peacock is awesome for the olympics this year. All the events on demand. And they have Goldzone (like NFL Redzone) with Scott Hansen. Really makes it possible and easy to watch and follow stuff.

I know Rob. When the jury convicts him, he is going to have a wild, emotional outburst followed by a mental breakdown. All in public. It’s going to be very ugly. It will be the first time since he (allegedly) stabbed Jeff German to death that Rob will actually confront reality.

Next thing is he’ll be suing the judge, the DA, etc for prosecuting him/letting the trial go forward.

Ah, he’s going “full pro-se”

You’re not supposed to go full pro-se!

Re: Guardianship

We had a cesspool of corruption where great deference was given to third party guardians and counsel. The Court was not shy about intervening into the lives of proposed wards. Now, the pendulum has swung hard the other direction where the Court refuses to intervene where it should.

This seems to happen a lot with law. For many years, OBC sat on a backlog of grievances. Jane Ann Morrison began to write columns about it in the RJ (this was about a decade ago). The pendulum then swung hard the other direction to Stan Hunterton.

This tendency to over correct, particularly in the face of public backlash, is unfortunately something that probably can’t be entirely avoided.

“It’s my client’s position that …”

= “This is stupid but probably not a Rule 11 violation”

Bar Counsel being investigated:

On July 16, after the comment period closed, the SBN’S Executive Committee (EC) met to discuss the issue and consider all comments received.

As a result of that discussion, it was agreed that the matter should be investigated by an independent third party as to whether the OBC’S prosecution of Hawkins was fairly and appropriately conducted. SBN leadership then approached U.S. District Court Magistrate Carl W. Hoffman (Ret.) to conduct this investigation and he has agreed to do so. This investigation was commenced in accordance with SCR 104(3) which states that “…a grievance against bar counsel or bar counsel’s staff shall be investigated at the direction of the president of the state bar and heard by the board of governors…”

The matter will now be placed with Magistrate Hoffman for his complete open-ended evaluation. Absolutely no constraints will be placed on his review, nor will he be asked to resolve any particular issue. Once Magistrate Hoffman’s evaluation is received, the SBN leadership will review it and consider next steps

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of OBC?
Mag. Hoffman knows!

Good pick. Old Marine, doesn’t care about what anyone thinks. I suspect he will do an excellent job.

Bill was about the only judge over there who was not self aggarndizing. Their fed court conferences were so bad you needed a barf bag included with the materials. So many pompous people in one building. He is a great all around person. Whoever came up with the idea to use him sought be congradulated.

I don’t know Hoffman but I sure hope he’s as good as all the commenters say. OBC is out of control and the Hawkins persecution was completely out of control. Time for Hooge & Co to go back to whatever dirt county they came from.

Mr. Rothstein, you people never will understand the way it works out here. You’re all just our guests, but you act like you’re at home. Let me tell you something, partner: you ain’t home, but that’s where we’re gonna send you if it harelips the Governor. Thank you for your time. -Clark County Commissioner Pat Webb
