  • Glenn Lerner is allegedly in trouble in New Orleans because former FBI director Louis Freeh says there is evidence that Lerner and three other attorneys attempted to corrupt the BP oil spill settlement process. The Heavy Hitter is being represented by Dominic Gentile of Gordon & Silver. [RJ]
  • Jon Ralston says that current Secretary of State Ross Miller appears to have been annointed as Nevada’s next attorney general. [Ralston Reports]
  • The Nevada Policy Research Institute is appealing Judge Doug Smith’s ruling that the email addresses of Clark County teachers are not public information. [RJ]
  • Zappos’ move downtown and the resurgence(?) of Fremont St. could make for an interesting experiment with local code enforcement and civil rights. [RJ]
  • The Reno Gazette Journal pulled a cathartic obituary placed by the children of a less than stellar mother who recently passed away. Practice tip: the dead have no cause of action for defamation. [Fox5Vegas]
  • UNLV president wants the school to be a Tier 1 research facility in the next 5-10 years. No word on his ambitions for Boyd. [MyNews3]

No mention of the Glen Lerner article in the RJ?

http://www.reviewjournal.com/columns-blogs/jane-ann-morrison/get-glen-allegations-report-just-might

Of course, I don't believe anything will ever shut him down. I mean, he's escaped unscathed so far. Whatever pact with the devil he's made, it's working. Watch, he'll turn this BP into something positive he can tout in his ads. Just like he did when he got caught out using paralegals or unlicensed attorneys to do all his work and now he brags about the number of paralegals working for him when he runs his TV ads. It's a sort of twisted genius really.

No worries for Glen. The US Attorney will figure a way to botch this. Perhaps Glen will get six months of probation after pleading guilty to one count of "misprision of a felony".

Hey 9:09 you can't discuss Lerner or his proverbial pact with the devil without bringing up perhaps his finest courtroom performance to date http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/heavy-hitter-tough-spot it just wouldn't be fair.

The real question for UNLV is whether they fire Haulk after he loses tomorrow or if they wait to the end of the season.

Not sure if Hauck gets fired this year, even if they lose tomorrow. What UNLV pays Hauck ($350,000 base) is nothing compared to most FBS schools (for comparison Nick Saban's base is $5.62 million) and there's no community or booster support for the team (so no money for a contract buyout and he's signed through next year). And even if he does get fired it won't really change since the school doesn't want to pay what it needs to pay to compete (for coaches, facilities, etc.), if say Steve Wynn, Sheldon Adelson or Phil Ruffin wanted to step up and be UNLV's Phil Knight the possibilities would be there to turn it into a great program, until then a sure way to pay down your student loans is to fade UNLV especially on the road.

The entire UNLV football budget wasn't 5 million when UNLV pursued Hauck, who is obviously a lame duck coach at a school that cannot pay a top notch coach or recruit adequate talent.
