Dissolved Or Replaced

  • Law

  • Judge Barker is going to decide if Judge Gonzalez should be disqualified from the Las Vegas Sands case. [RJ]
  • A state audit calls for the Taxicab Authority to be dissolved or replaced. [RJ]
  • Speaking of things that should be dissolved or replaced, the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline is expending more resources on ex-Judge Steven Jones to determine whether he should receive a life-time ban from the bench. [RJ]

The Commission proceedings are a totally unnecessary expenditure of resources in my humble opinion. Judge Steve Jones was removed from the bench, dis-barred, and convicted of a felony.
Since he is barred from ever practicing law, he could only conceivably serve as a JP or Municipal Judge in the rurals, where, depending on the population, it still may not be mandatory that such positions be served by a currently licensed attorney. However, being convicted of a felony, in order to serve as a judge of any sort, would require a presidential pardon. This is a very recent conviction involving a decade long scheme apparently involving in excess of three million dollars, none of which has apparently yet been reimbursed(and probably never will be).And Nevada divorce judges are presumably of no national interest, and it is
utterly inconceivable that this situation would ever attract presidential attention. And if by some miracle it did, there is nothing that would create any sympathy for the former judge since, again, it is a very recent conviction and it is highly unlikely any victim will ever receive any substantive reimbursement. So, since the concept of a presidential pardon is beyond ludicrous, why is the Commission spending its very limited resources to guard against a presidential pardon–which is only something that is only theoretically possible, but utterly impossible in any practical sense of how society and real life function.

The answer is simple…the commission is wasting resources on this ludicrous possibility because…..

This is Nevada!

Did you read the Noel Gage decision? It may have played a part in the Commission's uneasiness.

I read the Noel Gage decision. It had nothing to do with anything under consideration by the Commission.

I was shocked to hear about the taxi cab authority. They seem like an upstanding bunch…

I hear there's a lot more to this than we know… the numbers are wrong, the audit blames the Authority instead of the legislature that directed them to allow these things, etc. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

There needs to be some regulation of the taxi industry including UBER and LYFT. So we need a state agency to look into practices of the industry. We also need more regulation of tow truck operators.

January 20, 2016 at 10:19 PM – Pardon me if my capitalist slip is showing, but by regulation do you mean more of the blatantly corrupt socialist price fixing and monopolizing of an industry that North Korea is jealous of? No thanks.
