Not a Catholic. But Pope Francis seemed like a good egg. And in this economy, that’s high praise indeed.
Also, the City is going after the nonprofit and Evan Schwab for $55,000 in attorneys fees. Think trying to get into the settlement program was a significant factor for the appeal?

Over/Under on Firore sentencing?
Despite her seeming legitimacy as an elected public official, there was always a sense that she was really really shady. Something just not right about the way she carried herself. They got her pretty quickly with this statue thing; but you have to wonder what other shenanigans she was up to.
It’s difficult to take just about any Nevada politician seriously. We don’t elect statesmen, we don’t elect policy wonks, we don’t elect visionaries or intellectuals. We elect cartoon characters.
Maybe we would elect fewer cartoon characters if we had a full-time legislature and paid legislators a salary commensurate with their responsibilities.
Nah, ain’t gonna happen. Nevadans hate government and hate paying for the one we have.
I have lived in other states with part-time legislatures. They do not elect clowns like we do. The last thing we want to do is make clowns salivate at the prospect of a full-time salary for clowning.
@10:21
Disagree.
No full time legislators. You can see the performance of the federal House and Senate. Those people only represent their own interest in getting reelected and use of half their time soliciting.
Yes, we want part time legislators who have to go home and earn a legitimate living from a business or job.
You mistake being elected with legitimacy; there is no necessary correlation (as was shown by her being able to become a JP with no qualifications other than she was to the right of Mussolini on many issues). As far as shenanigans, she was pushing her self-interest. That was no secret nor did she hide the same. And that is not entirely illegal albeit perhaps not ethical.
She could engage in all the shenanigans she wanted, but as soon as she converted campaign contributions and charitable donations to personal use, she was toast.
Also, anything more makes granting a clemency/pardon application entirely possible. Trump wants to crack down on overly harsh federal sentencing for non violent crimes.
If she’s still got the juice with teams MAGA and Trump, I doubt whatever sentence she receives will matter when it comes to whether or not she gets a pardon. There may still be state crimes that can be pursued, too, so a pardon might not resolve all of her problems.
Mark my words. If the sentence is commensurate with the dollar loss figure (call it <30 months) she will not receive clemency of any kind. She does not have the juice or the connections and has been all but abandoned by those with the connections. They will not exhaust those favors for her. Period.
Just because she claims MAGA, does not mean that she is connected enough to score a pardon.
Even if she does (clearly I doubt she will) , she will serve her whole sentence beforehand, which nets her nothing, except her gun rights back.
Not available to view on PACER. Only accessible by US Probation. Obviously, the Govt and the Defense have copies. But its not a part of the public record. . . . yet.
I doubt that. Highly.
Not over $60k. Not even taking it to trial.

I’m not a Christian or a Catholic. Even as a non-believer, I often learned from him and my life was enriched by Pope Francis’s teachings. The world is better off because he was in it.
Pope Francis made the crucial mistake that modern conservative Catholics find unpalatable. He spread the teachings of Christ.
He warned us that we cannot serve both God and money. He encouraged us to love and forgive our neighbors. He reminded us that only God can judge. He stood for all the selfless and holy things those that use the church as a tool for wealth and oppression will always revile.
Perhaps the next Pope will be less-Christlike and therefore more popular among so-called “good Catholics.”
I am not Catholic, but I love that Pope Francies wasn’t merely an advocate for Jesus, he was an iconoclast for Jesus, the highest form of discipleship a leader can demonstrate. If faith doesn’t prod me by making my uncomfortable and pricking my conscience, what’s the point?

Shannon Sharpe sued today A-25-917246-C for sexual assault. Counsel is out of SF and TX
My wish – NRCP 10(b) be amended to require Hindu-Arabic numerals and expressly prohibit Roman numerals. I represented the defendant in a case where the complaint was 123 numbered paragraphs, each with the incrementing Roman numeral centered above each respective paragraph but the last paragraph was numbered 125. However six or seven times they mis-numbered, going back and forth missing an X or V. Then later amended it increasing it to 130 paragraphs, fixing the numbering error up to about 125 then lost an X and went back to 115, then the final paragraph they added back the missing X and we at least had a correct final count.
Why would you use Roman Numerals in a 130 paragraph complaint? Why use Roman numerals in a complaint at all other than enumerating causes of action or something similar?
I’m not sure what the procedural motion would’ve been (motion to dismiss, to strike, or for a more definite statement), but the gaps in numbering alone probably warranted some sort of motion to get them to clean it up before requiring the answering party to respond.

Now do the Clark County Commission

So THAT’s where the line is drawn?
Insofar as her criminal convictions are concerned, yes.
Year and a day or less.
Really?
Yes REALLY. Look over the USSC Sentencing Guidelines. This case, while allegedly egregious, its small potatoes as far as fraud goes.

The supposed home health agency that she was runnng at one point was highly sus.
OP here – really wanted to just know what our criminal practitioners realisically see as her probable sentence duration.
1041 and 103 here.
You got what you asked for.
What did her PSI say?

Restitution and probation.
1041 here. Entirely possible.
Not in the Federal system after she took it to trial and ever accepted responsibility.
*never
I SAY 36 -48 MONTHS

Marjorie Taylor Greene is celebrating the pope’s death.
Well, that deeply overstates the truth. Nonetheless, he was not a good Pope and IMO, not a good Catholic.
Expound please. Your opinion is worthless with some articulated basis.
Luckily. I am entitled to have my opinion without regard to what you think. In other words, IDGAF. 🖕
Typical jackhole Vegas lawyer.
Nothing says believe my pious pissing on a Pope like “IDGAF”. Say 5 Hail Marys and excommunicate yourself.
Agreed

Believe all women!
ALL women?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber_Heard
Due process may not be en vogue anymore, but it’s more important than believing all women.
Odds that out of state counsel mispronounces Nevada in the proceedings?
I think Micah actually lives in Vegas, but I’m sure Texas counsel is running the show.
Does Shannon Sharpe really reside in Vegas?
they included his address in the pleading… that’s a new one. must be a texas thing
More like a harassment thing, imho.
Doesn’t NRCP 10(b) mandate numbered paragraphs, which this complaint lacks? IS NOTHING SACRED THESE DAYS?!?!?!?!!?!?
No time to get it right… this was about getting it on file while he was in contract talks.
