With ballots set to start arriving in mailboxes next week, it’s time to talk about the contested judicial races featured on that ballot. We welcome your comments on the qualifications of the candidates as well as any information you can offer to help voters make an educated decision. Just remember to keep your comments appropriate and try to avoid defamation.
For District Court Judge, Department X, the candidates are:
- Almase, Heidi
- Davis, Jim
Jim Davis.
Heidi. She has the knowledge and judicial experience. Jim is a bit abrasive at times and has a temper.
10:09–if he can be a bit abrasive with flashes of temper, he should fit in perfectly.
Heidi pulled some bs when she lost downtown and treated some people badly. Then she mooched off the govt as a law clerk and now she wants to be a judge in family court. I've never seen her even handle a family court case. She's not a hard working law clerk by any stretch of the imagination. I don't see that we need her on the bench again. No thanks. I'm voting for Jim.
Hello. This is Heidi Almase. I was highly rated as a sitting judicial officer in the Las Vegas Municipal Court and have accepted responsibility for issues with my 2017 campaign. I absolutely would not have decided to enter the political arena without giving the process some thought. I have been an attorney for nearly 20 years and provided pro bono legal service through LACSN's Childrens Attorney Project as well as providing pro bono domestic relations services to women in the Women in Need diversion program (Las Vegas Municipal Court, Dept. 1) for which I was pro bono counsel for two years. For the last three years, I have been working in Family Court with a very dedicated and knowledgeable group of professional law clerks/attorneys. If you or any other posters have any questions related to this campaign, my prior service with the Las Vegas Municipal Court or the content of the above-post, please feel free to contact me at: Heidi@HeidiAlmase4Judge.com. All inquiries will be responded to. Thank you to the Law Blog for this valuable post.
11:18–Ms. Almase, I don't believe you are well-served to very publicly respond to 10:53's personal attack
That said, I,among many others, did not appreciate the approach you took in your re-election campaign, when you painted criminal defense attorneys as people who, for fun and profit, are fixated on putting the scum back on the street so they can continue to re-victimize people.
Since you have served as both a criminal defense attorney, and then a judge, you obviously understand the critical constitutional underpinnings involved, but you decided to cater to some perceived contingent of really angry, uneducated, ultra right-wing distorted law-and-order voters. You were trying to peddle to the lowest possible common denominator of voters–the ones who, for example, think that as soon as someone is arrested for murder that we should bypass the charade of a trial and appeals, and get everything ready within 24 hours for the lethal injection.
I know you eventually apologized, but were you truly ashamed?
That all said, although I have expressed my displeasure with that re-election approach, people like 10:53 are just engaging in name-calling and personal attacks. You should not waste time responding as you will never convert such people to your camp by discussing your efforts on behalf of children and indigent mothers.
I always found Garfield to be funny. Even the Bill Murray movie. So Jim Davis gets my vote.
Definitely, Jim Davis. He is professional and competent. Dont hold it against him that he clerked for Pomeranze. While he was not afraid to use her to his advantage in cases in front of her, he was always easy to work with. Davis by a LONG shot.
Which candidate is the Rock endorsing? That is the one who will get my vote!
