Not sure this working right – voted for Scalia but it doesn't show up. That said, I am pretty much undecided but recall he has more experience than she in family law. By the same token, I think good lawyers can function well in a variety of areas. Apropos yesterday's comments on department 2 – not sure you will get really good lawyers who are proficient in civil and criminal both or family law and general law. So, maybe, quality of lawyer should be more important than specific experience assuming they have basics down – evidence, procedure, trial work.

Why is Marquis running in an area where she never practiced? Low hanging fruit? And her campaign slogan – Keeping Families Together – shows she knows nothing about Family Law. I fear we have another Pomrenze in the making.

None of the above. Yuck. This is one of the worst departments. Preemps all the way.

Linda Marquis gets the vote. While she is not the ideal candidate, she has the intellect and temperament to be an effective family court judge.

Voted for Scalia and not recorded. No way can this vote be this lopsided. Scalia has the experience.

Voting for Marquis. She is so hot. Way hotter than Scalia. As attractive as her picture is on the signs, she is waayyyyy hotter in person. Best interest of the child? Forget that! Best interest of me getting to see her more often.

Are we in 2014? Women get so much respect in this profession, not!

I see you're using "not" at the end of your sentence to convey sarcasm. Forget 2014, are we in 1993?

Oh, honey. New to the internet? Don't worry, one of the lovely posters here we be along to soon to mansplain to you that they've personally aren't sexist and have never seen sexism themselves, so therefore sexism doesn't exist and you're whining about nothing. As a bonus they will probably also tell you that the real problem is all the young female attorneys who accuse people of sexism because they don't get their way and just can't handle tough negotiations.

(PS. I'm on your side, really. The good news for us is that the growing number of women in the legal practice means that sexist behavior is becoming more and more detrimental to the jerks who do it. Unfortunately, the arc of justice is long, etc., etc., so we'll still be dealing with these asshats for while longer.)

The arc of justice may be curvy, but the rod of justice is long and strong.

Voted for Marquis by default, in my prior dealings with Scalia he seemed like a super douche.

The fact that this vote is so lopsided in favor of Linda Norvell Marquis means this is not an accurate snapshot of the vote or opinions of the lawyers. The most important factor with a judge is their experience and temperament. You can't have someone who has not practiced in an area hearing cases in a specialized area. There is too much of a learning curve. When you are appearing on behalf of a client, they can't wait while the judge is learning to figure it out. It is going to take someone who is new to an area a couple of years to get it right. These are the facts and the belief of many in the Family Law Bar.

Shows what you know. I'd vote for Marquis based solely on the fact that she doesn't have experience in family court where Scalia does. Family Court has a lot of issues and problems and someone like Scalia is too familiar with that system.

You might be right. I've only met one of the candidates: Scalia. He came across as really really scummy. Therefore, he doesn't get my vote.

Family court is a joke, as are the family court practioneers. I'm down for bringing in a lawyer to be a judge in the joke of a field called family law who actually understands civil procedure and rules of evidence. And who also understands due process and doesn't just defer to the DA's office.

I love this site! In the primary this blog picked me dead last- out of 8 candidates, and I finished 3300 votes off the lead. Now, I'm being called "a douche" and "scummy" and having resolved thousands of family law cases over 20 years…wait for it…. is a negative! LOL. You can't make this up! People who know me, know that I find stuff like this amusing! Joseph Scalia

Well Joe you make some good points but ignore the question of where you live. And what about the public reprimand from the State Bar filed only two months ago? Might hurt your campaign a bit. Might not. You certainly have decades of family law experience while Linda does not. Her husband sure has a lot though. That shouldn't factor in much but should not be ignored either. Should be a close race.

Her husband does have a lot of experience, considering the fact that she is 37 and he is pushing 80.

What is wrong with having a campaign party that is fun? Ugly T-shirt. I like it.
