He who shall not be named sent out an email on the Johnsons' campaign contributions. Nothing in the discussion we all haven't said/thought except the comparison to other states. Interesting to see how other states handle the issue and the specific amounts listed. Are there any specific amounts anywhere in NV (statute or precedent) or do we just politely ignore the elephant in the room? Everything I've read says the latter.
I am getting the DJ ready to play LA COCKAROCHA (sp?) at Eric Johnson's upcoming campaign event. Hope they are serving milk there for his many non-alcohol drinking supporters.
I don't practice in front of Johnson. Can anyone educate me with some specifics as to why so many people don't like him?
Just my personal opinion, I believe that the folks despise him because he is conservative. It's en vogue to bash conservatives. People didn't even know who he was (as in, their having never dealt with the US Attorney's office in their state court criminal and civil practice), yet the venom was spewed from the beginning.
Eric Johnson is smart and, for the most part, makes decisions in a timely fashion. He will also grant a meritorious summary judgment motion. Refreshing for a state court judge. With that said, I'm not a fan of having a husband and wife on the court.
Eric Johnson, a conservative. No way, bro. Thank you for letting me know.
Can one get Eric Johnson campaign signs from his chambers?
Because he was dirty as an AUSA and is dirty now. He had no state court experience, which made him a ridiculous choice by Sandoval (who I generally like). He represents everything that is wrong with the Nevada judiciary.
Amen, 11:41, Amen. Will someone please run against Hardesty? Cadish, you run against Hardesty and I will run for Cherry's spot.
What things are is Hunterton disciplining in public that are usually private? He just got gutted by his office pretty bad. Not returning phone calls?
@ 12:07 PM – What do you mean by writing that Hunterton "just got gutted by his office pretty bad."? I am curious.
Keep your ear out my friend, you will hear and see.
@12:07, no need to be so vague here. You're among friends, just let the details fly.
I have heard lot of a lot shit going down at the State Bar Counsel's office, too. You saw the earlier post. Hunterton calls the shots. They are not following precedence. He gives no authority to his Assistant Bar Counsels. Backing out of deals that they agreed to……feel free to add to this dialogue…
I have an office mate, who I have known for years, who is getting bar notice for bs iolta stuff. He was told you will get bar notices for any iolta negative balance.
Negative balance? You mean a bounced check?
Well, yeah. There is 0 reason your IOLTA account should ever be negative. Safekeeping of property, and all that.
Thank you, Hunterton. People never make a mistake with an iolta account. Give me a break.
I agree, happens alot. People are human. You fix the mistake right away, there should not be an issue.
There are counsel who signed Conditional Guilty Pleas for suspensions of 6 months to 2 years who are being hit with hearings asking for 5 years from the present OBC.
Which has me wondering, was previous bar counsel too lenient, and is the current bar counsel swinging the pendulum the other way to try and counter-balance?
David Clark followed 20 years of precedent on discipline matters. IOLTA violations which were accounting and not theft related would be a public reprimand. Felony convictions after Claiborne would be two years up. Clark did tend to handle cases in a uniform (perhaps too uniform) fashion. Hunterton was told to get tougher and move cases faster. He has done the former; he is dreadful on the latter because we all know that the longer that a case hangs over an attorney's head means the easier for the attorney to crack. But when they appointed Stan, they got a guy who was a Strike Force prosecutor with no history in disciplinary matters. The entire mantra from Claiborne that discipline cases are not punishment went right out the window– its all about the corporal punishment now.
Please share who on the Supreme Court is pushing this asshole. Hunterton, Parraguire, Hardesty, so I can vote him out? Saitta is shrouded in the whole HOA scandal, but this jerk is on a witch hunt. Hypocrites.
Hardesty has been the Justice who most believe has been pushing the changes in discipline. Just look at the Dissents on discipline cases and you will have a pretty good idea who is behind all of this.
Voting him the hell out. At this rate, he will discipline half the bar. Joke.
during the recession Lewis & Roca demoted some "partners" to "Of Counsel". Not sure what either of those titles means at Lewis & Roca. . .
Who was demoted over at Laxalt and Roca, I mean Lewis and Roca.
Jonathan Fountain was a partner that went of counsel, but I don't know that he was demoted. From what I heard, he requested the change. Being a partner isn't always a pay increase.
Eric Johnson is slow. Civil matters, slow. Like Barney Rubble. Barney Rubble.
Mediocre prosecutor and mediocre Judge.
Sorry 12:58, Eric Johnson when he was AUSA handled some of the biggest and toughest cases against biker gangs. Not for the faint of heart. No I am not Eric Johnson. Just stating the facts because he was well known as a high profile federal prosecutor.
Still subpar judge.
You can be a high profile prosecutor and dirty, unethical and subpar as an attorney. Barry Levinson ended up being high profile also. Means very little.
I want to be Eric Johnson's Bam Bam. I could not help it.
Lewis and Roca is a joke. Laxalt was over there.
And Laxalt was the best they had.
12:23, you are right. Laxalt was the best they had. Better than all the partners over there put together.
Yeah, Polsenberg is an idiot.
It depends, they have strong IP, Gaming and Appellate units. Litigation can be hit or miss depending on who you get.
OBC sucks. Who is leaving there today?
I have been practicing civil litigation in town for 20+ years. Johnson is not the very best, but he is smart and capable.
Eric Johnson is not smart. Cadish is smart. Eric, not.
Terrifically accurate. Cadish is smart. Gonzalez is smart. Eric Johnson gravitates to the Leavitt/Walsh spectrum.
Gonzalez is smart. Say she is as smart as Cadish.
Eric Johnson is Barney Rubble slow. Have to agree. Think his wife is smarter. Hope she gets the appointment.
I wonder if he can whistle through his teeth. Eric Johnson. That gap in his teeth is the size of Montana.
You have to be a DA or an insurance defense attorney because Susan Johnson is terrible. Eric is a much better judge and human being.
When ever I see Eric Johnson, he reminds me of campfires and empty raisin box harmonicas.
The Onion has finally weighed in on the hotly contested election between Bruce Gale and Joe Hardy Jr.
http://www.theonion.com/interactive/state-by-state-election-guide
Very disappointing. Onion is better than that.
I am voting for Gale. Sorry, I like Hardy, but Gale it is.
1:29 — That is ridiculous! Judge Joe is the way to go!
Gale, here, too.
Don't be stupid 1:29 and 1:57!!
Have a high IQ, so thank you for the insult. I am sure Joe Hardy thanks, you, too.
@2:09, the fact that you have to say you have a high IQ, makes you lose the argument with 2:03
@2:09 as, well, as, your, apparent, infatuation, with, the, comma.(,)
Called grammar.
@8:10 the parentheses comma was fire
Pengilly: Motion Granted. Anyone have other details?
In which case? I think the gun thing has led to filings in Justice, District and Supreme Court.
The Motion for the Protective Order filed by the Plaintiff was granted in the District Court case.
Any more details on sanctions or terms of the protection?
I purposefully leave a buffer layer of money in my IOLTA (that I have earned through billing and could withdraw at anytime) just to make sure that I always have money in my IOLTA and that the Bar would stay off my ass. I would much rather be down money than have to deal with State Bar drama that I have unfortunately seen my colleagues go through over some honest mistakes through no fault of their own majority of the time.
I did that for a while too but then my accountant and bookkeeper insisted I change that policy. Now I get four alarm fire alerts when we are off a couple of dollars.
Bar results: 51% pass rate…….
Too high. Should be 33% or less. Too many morons out there.
I can't see the list on the bar website, am I missing something?
8:27 is spot on. The bar exam was reformatted and the grading was dumbed down with the formula. If Nevada followed the same formula as California, the pass rate would be significantly lower. It was tweaked to make Boyd look good. Seriously the bar exam is no longer a problem in Nevada. I am not meeting folks who have taken it three or four times. Most seem to get it the first or second shot.
