You assume that Hutch will get the nomination, which is laughable. The GOP grassroots hate him so much that they'd rather vote for Sue Lowden, who they used to hate before he came along. She's ahead of him in the polls 2:1 and doesn't have the stigma of being cabana boy for Slanker and Ernault.

I'm a Republican insider and 8:17 is way off base. Hutch is definitely behind with the grassroots v. Lowden, but he is working the base quite effectively right now (Governor Sandoval should take note). Give him enough time and he will give Lowden a run for her money. In any event, Hutch is certainly not "hated" by the base, that's just a really stupid, uninformed comment.

This probably shows my ignorance of Nevada politics, but who the hell are Slanker and Ernault?

Mike Slanker and Pete Ernaut are political consultants/advisers for Republican Party candidates in Nevada. Slanker on at least one occasion has been compared to Karl Rove.

lots of news articles on these.
