Corrected, thanks commenters!

This past Thursday, President Obama nominated Reno-based, soon-to-be-former partner with McDonald Carano Wilson, Miranda Du to serve as a in the US District Court for the District of Nevada.

According to an article in the Asianjournal.com:

“Miranda Du will be an esteemed addition to the Federal bench for the people of Nevada,” President Obama said in a statement, adding. “I am grateful for her dedication to public service.”  US Sen. Harry Reid, who recommended Du, noted the lawyer’s extensive litigation experience and deep understanding and dedication to the Nevada community. . . .  A refugee of Vietnam who immigrated to the US when she was nine years old, Du would be the first Asian-American judge in the history of Nevada.

Congratulations, Ms. Du!

She's just nominated. These get blocked all the time. She has a good story, though, so I hope she makes it.

Not a chance that she gets blocked through a Democratic Senate and coming from a well-known Nevada firm. The greater question in my mind is why is a Reno attorney being given a Las Vegas position.

First Asian-American federal judge, right? Judge Chris Lee in North Las Vegas and Jerry Tao in the 8th Judicial might get offended otherwise.

Very politically correct. Any chance that Governor Sandoval will appoint a plain white male to replace Jackie Glass?

Howard Awand is in the news and THIS is all we have to blog about?

Howard Awand was held in contempt again for not ratting out members of the Medical Mafia. Gotta hand it to him; he's a stand up guy. The US Attorney will never get a real conviction in this case. Awand is starting to look like a martyr.

Any news on exactly what questions the U.S. Attorney was asking and Awand wasn't answering? Hasn't the Statute of Limitations run on some of this stuff?

The people Awand is protecting are still doing plenty of aruably illegal (and certainly immoral and unethical) stuff. The US Attorney's office has never really grasped what Awand's people are doing. That was evident in the way they went after Noel Gage.

This case was about perjury by doctors, billing fraud, unecessary spine surgeries, intimidation of witnesses, and collusion between corrupt judges/arbitrators and the lawyers who litigated the spine surgery cases. The US Attoney either never understood that or had no way to effectively prosecute it.
