So what is the story on Family Court Judge Voy resigning on two weeks notice. Seems short and unexpected. Thought he was a decent judge. Twenty years is a long time in Family Court. What is his age? Senior Judge status–PERS pension?

Voy was solid his entire career. He will be missed and replaced with someone lesser.

Agree with Voy being solid. There are so few male Family Court Judges. But does not explain his departure now. Why not finish term?

I'm sure with Voy leaving, it will be one of the usual suspects seeking an appointment. Bill Gonzalez, Gayle Nathan, Romeo Perez, and maybe even Kevin Speed or Sara Dayani. I hope someone good gets in. I like Romeo as he has the most to offer with no nasty baggage I am not Romeo either.

Speaking of male judges, he was the best Family Court Judge that there was but Ritchie's time has come and gone. He clearly does not want to be there. He clearly feels for the parties before him a spectrum of ambivalence to disgust and contempt. He ignores Nevada Supreme Court cases that come out of his own department. I used to really respect him. And I get it that Family Court can take a toll on anyone. But it has gotten bad in Department G.

Romeo has some ill-advised social media postings that will likely eliminate him from real contention in either JC16 or Family Ct. Sad. I like him too.

Unfortunately, as good as Ritchie was, he was super burnt out in 10 years ago.

Audrey Beeson, Denise Gallagher, or Molly Rosenblum may be good choices to fill a family court seat but I am not sure if another white woman on the bench will be what the governor will want. This is anyone's game I guess. I still think Romeo would be a very good choice. We need diversity on the bench too.

Good bye judge voy. I appeared as a first time attorney on a juvenile attorney and he was very nice to me. A rarity on the bench

10:50 huh? Your post is a little confusing, but I kinda agreed with you on Ritchie. He is clearly intelligent, but has a terrible attitude towards the proceedings and the parties. That said, I can understand family court burning people out. Also agree on Dept G, except I wouldn't say it has gotten bad. I'd say it has always been bad. Steel was a pain to work with and Forsberg is an emotional mess.

@11:24– Sorry it was a brain fail on my part. My comments about Ritchie were about Dept. H. Thanks for catching that.

10:50-I don't think he blatantly ignores precedent, but I agree that his over two decades of service has really taken its toll .It's hard to listen to these types of disputes day after day, year after year. I believe that unlike most other areas of law, responding to and controlling the emotions of the parties, and their repeated disputes and psychodrama, takes far more of a judge's or a lawyer's time than they expend on legitimate legal and procedural matters.

You talk about a lazy family court Judge, you have to mention Judge Harter. Not sure what happen, but the guy has just become lazy and unprepared.

You can talk about who you think is a lazy judge, but you can't talk about the fact that you don't trust Warhola as an attorney and you would not trust him as a judge. Definitely do NOT talk about that.

I agree with 6:03. What happened to Harter. He used to be effective and a quality judge. Half the time he won’t even put his camera on anymore for hearings. Him and a few other judges have gotten lazy since covid. Had a hearing a month ago and it was apparent Harter didn’t even read the pleadings, but he made sure to tell both sides he read everything.

Does the RJ still limit the number of online articles you can read? Been accessing the Interwebs with the Brave browser this last couple months and haven't been locked out since. Free reading online.

They've had a pay wall for a while now. Someone posted a hack though…click the link and then hit ctrl+A and ctrl+C (in that order) really quick before the pay wall pops up. Then open a word doc and hit ctrl+V and there is your story.

OP here. I have been frustrated with the pay wall forever and I was doing that CTRL hack every time. Until I started using the Brave browser. No more hacks needed.

I haven't read the Ruggs – Washington opinion by Judge Newberry, but the idea that the State can pull a "victim's" medical records to prosecute someone else makes me uncomfortable. I like Walsh more than I did before and even though I consider Zimm a friend, I do not like this ruling.

I predict Newberry will be one of the more-overruled judges on the bench. This isn't the first head-scratcher I've heard about from her.

Could not disagree more. She has been really on point as a judge, especially compared to the low bar for the 2020 class. Very well reasoned decisions.

I admit the only things I've heard about her were those about non-well-reasoned decisions. I'll hold my opinion on her. Hopefully it will change.

I fall in line with 501. I think she has been a highlight of the class of ‘20 so far and has more well reasoned opinions than many of the rest.
That being said I don’t necessarily disagree that she may be overruled more because she does not appear to be as petrified to make a decision as some of the other judges that will use any scintilla of factual disagreement to punt on decisions.

Newberry has done well so far. Does she get it wrong at times – yes. Every judge does. Krall has impressed me the most. Maybe it is because my expectations were low. She has been prepared and made quality decisions – multiple that didn’t go my way, but were understandable decisions based upon the issues. Overall, I think most have tried hard. There are a few that suck or have a sharp learning curves they are still working through. Gotta to give people a chance and try to educate them.

Whew. Krall has been a struggle on my cases but is helped by the fact that she has David Sorenson has her law clerk so there are the decisions that it is clear that David briefed her and then there are the ones that you can see her ad-libbing from the bench.

Yes without her law clerk Krall would be lost and so would every other Judge.
