Your Suggestions For New Nominee

  • Law

Now that Judge Cadish has withdrawn her nomination and Andy Gordon was confirmed without a single opposing vote, there are just two vacancies in the federal judiciary for Nevada. One seat is being held for Jennie Dorsey.  Senator Heller has announced that he is still vetting her, but won’t block her nomination. Not sure how that works, but good for her.

In that same article from the Sun, Senator Heller indicated that he and Senator Reid are working together to come up with a suggestion for President Obama’s next nominee. It sounds like they need our help. Assuming that both senators and/or their staffers religiously follow this blog, please put your suggestions for the next nominee in the comments below. According to USCourts.gov, the Constitution sets forth no specific requirements to be a federal judge, but Congress has developed their own informal criteria. Given that information, the only requirement we suggest you consider is that they be a licensed Nevada attorney.

You sure think highly of yourself, don't you? Wake up and smell the coffee Mr. or Mrs. "Me.". The answer us clearly not "you," it is ME.

1. If BK Hottie gets a nomination, I'll be watching the Senats confirmation hearings on CSPAN.

2. If confirmed, Jennie Dorsey will be by far Nevada's hottest jurist.

3. And by the way, I'm pretty sure that 10:54 meant Troy Fox

As far as a serious suggestion, I'll throw out Phil Dabney's name. It was a shame that Kishner beat him in the election, but I think he'd make a good judge.

Well, since I didn't get the nod to become the next Pope, I guess I will wait and see if I get the call from the Prez for a federal judgeship.

Do you know the difference is between the Pope and a federal judge?

@ 8:54 – I think a Boyd grad on the federal bench may still be 3-5 years away although this could be a good opportunity for one to possibly get thru.

@1:23 I think Dabney could be a possibility, probably would be a good choice for the position and probably would have been better in state court. And he seems to still have interest in the bench, if I remember correctly he filed the appointment paperwork for a vacancy.

I think a possibility would be Judge Tao, due to his background from Capitol Hill to both DA's & PD's then to Dept. 23.

I think another good possibility would be AG Masto. She seems to be well respected and will be term limited in 2014.

Kudos to 4:47 PM — maybe she'll stop bugging attorneys for campaign $$ right before trial
