Blake Griffin’s local attorney for a misdemeanor battery case, Richard Schonfeld, says prosecutors need to see the results of defense investigation into the allegations. Griffin has a status check set for January 12, 2015. [MyNews3]
Legal costs are mounting for the State of Nevada as it defends itself against a class action lawsuit with regard to its practices of buying mental health patients a bus ticket out of town. Unfortunately, those legal fees are headed out of state to the California office of Bingham McCutchen. Why aren’t they using a Nevada firm? Well, according to a spokeswoman for the Nevada Attorney General’s office, they need a California licensed attorney to fight the case in that state. Too bad we don’t have any of those here… [Las Vegas Sun]

Have to imagine that Michelle Fiore is going to provide some great entertainment for us in the not too distant future. She got next. Just look at her. She's a Nevada political circus just waiting to open its tent.
December 9, 2014 at 8:32 AM – I think political firestorm is much better description than circus – the kind of firestorm that cleans out the ugly underbrush and lets the trees grow. But then I'll assume your comment is either sexist or you get your slanted political news primarily from the now largely unemployed and ignored Jon Ralston. I will also assume she's a far better legislator than you are an attorney. Unless you want to prove me wrong, identify yourself, and tell me what YOU'VE done to make Nevada a better state. In which case I will publicly apologize. Until then you're a whiny little snot.
You know, if you had some intelligent and clear policy objections to her political positions, even if they were the polar opposite to hers, I wouldn't be slapping you upside of the head right now. But I don't like this kind of knee jerk reaction to female legislators who don't fit into some Betty Crocker mold. I saw the same thing from my side of the aisle when Barbara Spearman was elected. A whole raft of pointless and insulting comments without mentioning she was a well educated career Army intelligence officer and university lecturer who has shouldered significant public responsibility in her lifetime. Just a raft of nonsense. If you have something relevant to say, I'll be happy to rationally and civilly discuss it with you, but don't expect me to respect your frat boy comments.
I like Fiore but don't be a bully shark pimp. 1st Amendment and all that. When someone runs for public office, they open themselves up to criticism from the peanut gallery. Attempting to force a contest about who has made Nevada better is beneath you. Please don't try to chill free speech. Just give it the weight it deserves. Close to nothing.
Yeah Jordan, maybe she's the next Margaret Thatcher.
But won't we all be a little less surprised if she's the next Dario Herrera or Lance Malone or Lynette Boggs or Yvonne Atkinson Gates or Michael McDonald or Elizabeth Halverson or John Ensign or Steve Jones or Steven Brooks or Erin Kenny or . . . . ?
The point is that she's outrageous and colorful and we've seen her type before. She's Nevada's flavor of the month.
But yeah, I guess there's a chance that she's Abraham Lincoln. Some of us just doubt that she is.
All that "tax drama" sounds like classifying employees as Independent Contractors, and getting nailed for doing it wrong. Something she's hardly alone in doing.

Jordan, dude, chill. Talk about using a sledgehammer to swat a fly. Plus, that "whiny little snot" could be a client one day…
December 9, 2014 at 12:26 PM and December 9, 2014 at 11:19 AM – maybe when you have a successful and accomplished daughter and understand how women are subject to this kind of double standard, you'll see I'm not the bully, I'm the guy who grabs the bully by the collar. In no way am I attempting to silence his right to speak. It's true that all politicians, my self included, once we enter the shark tank, are fair game. But so is this whiny little snot (no I won't stop calling him that) as soon as he puts his viewpoint out in the public square. Forcing a contest? You bet I am. No different by the way than any litigator in the courtroom. Are you suggesting clients are best served by telling the opposition counsel let's all sing Kumbaya? I understand the concern about my original comments and I don't object to questioning me for them, but I would take exception to the suggestion that implies my comments were on the level as the same cheap ad hominem attack as December 9, 2014 at 8:32 AM employed.
December 9, 2014 at 11:45 AM – thank you for your kind comment.
As a relatively successful and accomplished female, I feel compelled to agree that some women (and some men) are appropriately described as a circus, and I don't perceive the comment as sexist. I know nothing about the woman but when I see such an overreaction to a comment using an inflammatory distraction label like "sexist," makes me suspect she may indeed be a circus.
First appearance here. Do you think it might be possible that someone had done their research on Fiore prior to making a comment? Go check some of her more famous quotes or interviews and you might find a surprise. Not the emails or PR pieces, the moments when it is just her: no script, no handler. Do your homework, then post. P.S., I am a female and wear the R patch proudly. I voted for every other R woman, but she scares me. Don't pull the bullshit "sexist" card to silence opposition, it reeks of weakness.
12/10 @9:52, thank you for chiming in. I especially appreciate your self identifying as a proud female R. I too think there is plenty of scorn to go around but find it interesting that when someone like the allegedly vapid Lucy Flores is challenged for stupid comments or behavior her defenders say it is all about racism, sexism or some other yet to be defined ism, but when a well known conservative comes to the defense of Michelle Fiore following what certainly appeared to be an ad hominem attack he is whipping out the "sexist" card to stifle opposition? If in fact back during the election the Democrat Party wishes had not happened you were vocally defending (on this site) attacks on Lucy's qualifications against those yelling about how only "sexist, racist, Misogynististic old fat mostly Mormon men" were against her I would be more inclined to give you a pass on this one. Perhaps you were fighting that battle elsewhere, blithely unaware of this blog, in which case I owe you an apology and respect. Till then…
Shark Pimp it seems you switched your bullying tactics to "You don't have a daughter so you don't understand the female double standard so your opinion does not count" mode. Maybe I misunderstood your point. Jordan I am usually a big fan of yours but I'm not totally on board with you on this issue. I most certainly do understand double standards, even without a daughter. I do have a wife that deals with it on a daily basis. I hope Fiore continues to do a great job as an elected official and continues to handle any outside business issues professionally.
8:00 here. As a female who usually votes for Democrats, I did not find criticisms of Lucy Flores' qualifications to be sexist. Despite not being thrilled with Hutchison, I voted for him because he is better qualify than Flores. I'm not following how the comment about Fiore was either "ad hominem" or sexist. No one said that by virtue of being female, she must be a circus. Your ranting and venom is misplaced and rather perplexing.

The most upsetting part of the post is that the State of Nevada has retained California attorneys instead of NV attorney's. Way to support local businesses Nevada.
From the Bingham website: "Effective November 24, 2014 Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP and Bingham McCutchen LLP have concluded a transaction." What a polite way to say "we purchased the assets and will now keep who we like and the rest of you will be cut lose." That is the general nature of mergers but I like the "concluded a transaction" bit as if they had traded some baseball cards or something.

So when a judge is out of office, and not by way of retirement, do you still call them judge?
Depends on which judge – Steve Jones, no, Judge Becker, yes. But, the better question, is it ever appropriate to call the judge by his first name during oral argument? Happened in court last week, couldn't believe it.
I think a good rule of thumb is if the former judge is eligible for the senior judge program – not defeated in an election, not removed for cause – you can go ahead and call them "Judge —" Probably not "Your Honor," though.
Have to imagine that Michelle Fiore is going to provide some great entertainment for us in the not too distant future. She got next. Just look at her. She's a Nevada political circus just waiting to open its tent.
Sexist asshole. You're just jealous because you haven't seen her big guns up close.
Cliven Bundy has.
busing not buying (can delete this when the spelling is corrected)
I'm an idiot. nevermind.
Didn't realize you could bus someone a ticket.

Um. It's Pat Spearman, but I get your point.

Shark Pimp:
Will you apologize to "whiny little snot" when all that tax drama turns out to be a real problem for this sainted public servant?
No, this isn't Ralston asking.
All that "tax drama" sounds like classifying employees as Independent Contractors, and getting nailed for doing it wrong. Something she's hardly alone in doing.

Sorry Bro. I didn't know Fiore was your daughter.

Watch out…here come those detonated Cliven Bundy melons!!

Agreed. I'm unsure whether it is more sad or embarrassing.
When litigating in Nevada, use a Nevada firm. When litigating in California, use a California firm.
Didn't Bingham McCutchen just fold?
It looks like Bingham's "immeasurable depth" went to Morgan Lewis.
From the Bingham website: "Effective November 24, 2014 Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP and Bingham McCutchen LLP have concluded a transaction." I think a good rule of thumb is if the former judge is eligible for the senior judge program – not defeated in an election, not removed for cause – you can go ahead and call them "Judge —" Probably not "Your Honor," though.
