I'm really torn on the vacation rental issue. As a homeowner, we had a house across the street that was subletting for a short term VRBO and it was pretty awful. (The "Not in my backyard" argument) I'm also not sure what the proper role of the government would be in limitations. I would think this falls heavy in writing of zone ordinances, but I'm not really familiar enough with these areas of law to comment.

OP here,, on the other hand, as someone with very small children, renting a VRBO/Airbnb is exponentially easier than trying to have any sort of relaxing trip in a high rise hotel. So I am admittedly very hypocritical on the issue

Hell no! You buy your home in a neighborhood you like. No one buys a home with the expectation that random party people will destroy your peace and tranquility.
An AirBnb is just another word for an unregulated motel land use in a R-1 zoning.

Ukraine
I can't remember being angrier. Invasion of an ally democratic country, our response is sanctions. We let Russia take Crimea. Putin is secure at home and will weather any political fallout. Meanwhile the sanctions will be lifted within a year as Europe cries for oil. Which Baltic state will be next? We will honor our commitments to NATO countries? Looks doubtful.

BTW- China is watching carefully and noting our weakness. Expect Taiwan to be in the cross-hairs soon.

Sadly I don't think you're wrong. It's bizarre to me that we spent 20 years and trillions of dollars and accomplished nothing Afghanistan, but we won't do a damn thing militarily here. Kinda pathetic.

So Trump was a bore and tweeted too much. Sure wish he was President now. My goal is to convince 10 of my liberal friends to study policy and ignore personality and vote with their mind next time. It's true I've only converted 4 so far, but I still have time. Probably won't work, but are there any people in here who can admit that this would not, and did not, happen under Trump.

Yup. Afghanistan didn't.

Neither did Iraq

Neither did Iraq round 2

Neither did Syria

Don't have nukes? Get invaded.

It's no wonder North Korea won't give up it's nukes – it's the #1 deterrent to foreign military conflict.

1:51, it would totally happen under Trump. You've seen where he is on the issue, right? How he is congratulating Putin as his hero?

5:24: although I don't mean this personally, that is a very ignorant statement. Go read the transcript and stop vomiting up CNN. He recognized that Putin strategically made a move. You first have to appreciate your enemy before you can defeat him. If you don't understand that, please go watch The Karate Kid.

6:19 You are really a pile of garbage. Watch The Karate Kid? Appreciate your enemy before you can defeat them? Spoken like every soft candy-ass right winger who never once served the country. Soldiers will die. Civilians will die. There is ZERO to appreciate in any enemy that starts a war. Zero. Go thump your Bible and preach about the sanctity of life and leave war to the men and women who serve our country instead of worshiping our enemies. Fucking garbage ass traitors.

8:13, 6:19 here. I can tell from your tough-guy talk behind a keyboard that I doubt you ever served, have courage, or control of your emotions. I never once praised the act of war. I do not want any single person to suffer. But an intellect, a mind can think about the strategic moves of a dictator and conclude that their move, for their goals, is a strong one. You confusing that with praise shows just how easy it is to push your buttons, how easy it is to set you off. Instead of having a knee-jerk reaction and assuming the worst about Trump, how about you simply read the transcript or watch the video.

Winston Churchill never appreciated the enemy. Could you imagine his speeches if he did? He never boasted that it would never have happened under his watch for political gain. He never coddled to the enemy. He never watched Karate Kid. And did not set his ethical compass to sayings you get in a fortune cookie.

No knee jerk, just honesty in the reality of what we are facing. You have no clue about what it takes to serve, just a soft little armchair quarteback. I have skin in the game, do you? Go back to praising the enemies of your homeland. The men and women of our country fight and die for your right to do that.

OP back. This is why conservatives and liberals can't talk. I say one thing and you hear another. I'll try to simplify it for you. If I am playing chess, I must understand, analyze, and appreciate what my opponent just moved in order to counter it, protect against it, take advantage of it, etc. That doesn't mean I admire that person as a great moral being. It just means I can be rational. I believe that Putin is a political genius that is proven by being a dictator for many years. He is also a killer and horrible human being. Both can exist. Your knee jerkiness is a weakness in Court. I'd love to litigate against you or play poker with you. I'd find your button. Set you off. And take advantage. Also, I suspect you are the one who cannot be named herein. The supply clerk "veteran."

If what you say is true, then why does Trump go one step further and repeatedly say that he and Putin would get along great together? I just can't picture Churchill saying the same thing.

Putin is a monster, period. His wondedful strategy of killing innocents to ensure he and his cronies have billions and the people of Russia suffer under his decades long dictatorship. Whuch strategy do you love more, killing dissenters or innocent Ukranian civilians?

Not OP here: Putin is a human. He is a monstrous human, certainly, but he is not some mysterious shadow monster. You have to understand him, his goals, his motives, his fears, etc. in order to anticipate or counter his movements. This doesn't mean you need to like him. It does mean that you need to acknowledge his abilities. However, keep in mind that Putin has spent a career disguising himself so that his political foes underestimate him. His ability to do so needs to be understood. Russia is militarily no match for the US; not even close. But Putin is exceptionally good at getting the US to self-restrain while he goes after what he wants.

That said, Trump is a buffoon. He likes the last thing he saw. He doesn't play chess. He is not a strategic thinker, which is why Putin was able to manipulate him with absurd ease.

9:53 is just WOW. "Political genius" = lawless dictator who crushes his own people with an iron fist? Do you ever wonder if anyone really likes you as a person? Seriously curious.

Hello 11:35, if politics is the act of governing (whether legally or not) and someone has found a way to survive that long in power, I would call that an evil genius, yes. In the same fashion that Pablo Escobar was a logistical "genius." Of course, they are both human trash. Both can exist at the same time. But examine it further. My way and the enemy can be fought because they are understood. Your method of barking "bad guy there" doesn't lead to any understanding. As far as people liking me, that's just you being frustrated and not knowing what to say. Control your emotions, grasshopper. haha see what I did there 🙂

To those of you that assert that this would have likewise happened with Trump in office.

Objection! Calls for speculation.

Newsflash: It didn't happen and Putin was neutralized the entirety of Trump's first term. Prove me wrong.

4 years of trying to destroy NATO. 4 years of sucking Putin's putin. 4 years of bending over to China. And Trump praising Putin for the invasion.

Exactly. Trump is so cozy with Putin, I assume the timing is part of the plan precisely so people will say this wouldn't happen if Trump were President to help Trump get reelected. Trump being a "bore" and "tweeting too much" are not the reasons I did not and would not ever vote for Trump.

I love how 2:20 and 9:02 presumably are liberals but take every opportunity to shame the liberals number one cause of homosexuality. "suckin Putin's putin" is that supposed to be bad? Is "bending over" bad? While I remain conservative in every area of life, you both might consider picking a lane.

I guess I am missing the boat altogether and not following your logic.

Exactly HOW did Trump suck Putin's Putin?
And how did Trump bend over to China? Last I heard, China was toeing the line because of Tariffs. That is akin to saying that Trump opened the borders and Illegal Immigration was at an all time high. Nonsense. Total Nonsense.

Keep smoking the good stuff, amigo.

Good thing Russia, USA, and Britain, all agreed to protect the Ukraine against foreign invaders if the Ukraine agreed to destroy all of their nukes ~28 years ago. Do we believe anything Russia says now or in the future, or will they just say "That was the other guy who agreed to that, Putin never did" ?
