What is a contract partner?
Non-equity
My firm has both non equity and contract so was just wondering what the difference is.
Classic Biden blunder. Ketanji Brown Jackson will be the David Souter of Democratic appointments. She's pro-life!!
Well, its a done deal. But I wish the search had been for the most qualified candidate, not determined by race.
If race is a legitimate pre-requisite for appointment, then it should a Hispanic (considering the percentage of each group in the total population to the current racial makeup of the Court). If gender is a qualifier, then 5 of the 9 justices should be women. The politics suck.
Genuinely curious for both of your thoughts were on the process of Trump appointing 2 white men and one white woman.
Amy Coney Barrett is probably the most intelligent SCOTUS candidate I've seen since Scalia. But to answer your question as far as their skin color, they were to top candidates proposed by the Federalist Society, whose list included many, many diverse candidates.
@12:37
No, you are not "genuinely interested". You are an anti-Trumper looking to start an argument. Re-read 12:33. Take note of "most qualified candidate, not determined by race" and "The politics suck".
I did take note of the qualifier for the most qualified cabdidates that the Federalist Society proffered, did you?
@12:15 where on earth are you seeing that KBJ is pro life? Everything I'm seeing says quite the opposite.
She very much supports killing babies.
, can I have a ?
In contraposition to the idea that she supports killing babies (nobody supports killing babies), can we say instead say she is against the government handcuffing a woman to a bed for nine months to force her to function as an incubator against her will (nobody supports hogtying a woman either)?
Registering Vehicle in Montana
I am considering buying and registering a new vehicle in Montana to avoid the punitive Nevada sales tax and annual vehicle registration fees. I understand that setting up a Montana business (registering an entity) allows you to buy a vehicle in Montana, register it there, and avoid sales tax. The vehicle will be kept here in LV. The annual entity fee and Montana annual registration is reportedly substantially less than Nevada.
This seems too good to be true. Does anyone know Nevada's stance on this? Pitfalls?
Thanks
No pitfalls, other than it is technically illegal but never enforced. I believe the option of financing the vehicle is complicated, however, but if you're paying cash there's really no reason not to do it. I did it for an RV and saved tens of thousands of dollars.
If you have a vehicle in Nevada for 30 days, you have to register it here. They do ticket for it and enforce it when given the opportunity. Also, if someone wants to report you for it they can.
Yeah if you get pulled over with Montana plates but your driver's license says you live locally I know a lot of cops will cite you for failing to register where you reside.
Also, we have higher registration fees and sales taxes because we have no income tax.
luv too ask law blog commenters whether i should break the law.
(I'm not the OP) @2:39p – If I'm driving a vehicle that I don't own, how can I register that vehicle in the city where I live? The owner of the vehicle is in Montana (the LLC entity). If the manager of that LLC wishes to allow me, a NV licensed driver, to drive that LLC's vehicle great – but just like if I was someone else borrowing a vehicle, I can't take that other person's vehicle and register it in Nevada. If, of course, the vehicle is owned by me personally and registered in my name personally up in Montana I can absolutely see your position but that's not what we're talking about here.
I would add, though, that when the LLC gets insurance on the vehicle it needs to make sure the insurance company knows it's primarily garaged and driven in Nevada and not Montana so the rates can be adjusted accordingly, and the LLC can avoid having insurance claims rejected due to misrepresentation to the insurance company.
NRS 482 requires a motor vehicle to be registered here UNLESS it is operated for less than 30 days per calendar year. They can and do ticket. You will probably get away with a California License plate due to volume. but try and get a Montana or Oregon plate and you will get singled out. The ticket (as of 10 years ago) was like $450. you can get cited because you are the one operating the vehicle "illegally". You may not get singled out, but the police do take tip lines. I know LV constable used to be notorious for this. Besides, don't be a jerk. Are you going to cheat for a few bucks?

I have done the same thing for nearly 25 years in Oregon with both daily drivers and RVs. I own a vacation home there and all of my vehicles are purchased there. Once its purchased and titled out of the State of Nevada, the sales tax burden is satisfied. In the case of Oregon and Montana, its -zero-.
When you bring the vehicle to the State of Nevada, you have the legal obligation to register your Oregon (or Montana) Titled vehicle in Nevada within 30 days. However, there is NO sales tax burden to satisfy at that point. Just the acutely oppressive Nevada DMV registration fees.
The sales tax is a huge savings, Once Montana or Oregon has issued its title, even if its financed. You can "move" the vehicle to Nevada and register it here and lock in your sales tax savings. The KEY is to have it registered in the other state and THEN move the vehicle to Nevada and register it here. Oregon REG fees run $126-156 depending on MPG ratings and are good FOR TWO YEARS! Thus, the savings (even with registering the vehicle twice) is significant. My last sales tax savings was $6,700 in 2021. My RV was ordered from Beaver in Bend in 2017 and the savings were in excess of $50k. That little gem is still registered in Oregon.
THAT is strict compliance with the letter of Nevada law.
Just took a look at the Pawn Stars complaint. I got bored with the show several years ago after it began feeling very fake and contrived, but this case should be interesting to watch.
Case No?
I wish the Tyler e-file & serve had a similar feature like ECF does where you can add additional cases to be monitored, so that any filings that get filed the system would send an email to you telling you and you could then go and download them. i.e. to monitor a case. PACER of course gets 10c/page so it is worth the ECF system doing but still – it'd be an interesting feature.
