Chief Justice Mark Gibbons has announced Nevada attorneys interested in becoming a judge in Clark County District Court, Dept. 8, may apply from May 13, 2019, through June 7, 2019. The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection has begun accepting applications for the judgeship made available by the retirement of the Honorable Doug Smith. Attorneys with 10 years of legal experience and two years of Nevada residency are encouraged to apply for the opening. Applications are due by 5 p.m., June 7, 2019, and can be found at http://nvcourts.link/NVJudicialSelection. The Commission is planning to interview applicants to fill the vacant position on July 15 – 16, at the Nevada Supreme Court Building in Las Vegas. The public can watch the interviews and offer comment. After the June 7 deadline, background investigations will take place for each applicant. After the interviews, the Commission will deliberate and nominate up to three applicants for consideration by Governor Steve Sisolak.

Off topic but I wanted to let all of you know that I'm very happy Project Neon road construction is coming to an end. Also, I would appreciate if DOT would re-paint the lane markers in / around spaghetti bowl. End.

I'm kind of sad about it. Not because I like construction; I don't. But because the conclusion of Project Neon heralds the HOV lane rule changes. For years, I have enjoyed the use of the HOV lane during off-peak hours, when hardly anyone else seemed to realize that the HOV lanes were open for regular traffic. Those days are coming to an end.

I'm just grateful that southbound 95 going into the spaghetti bowl was fixed. For some reason, some idiot decided that it would be a smart idea to have SB 95 go from 3 lanes down to 2 right at the spaghetti bowl. As many of you know, this meant SB 95 was ALWAYS backed up, almost 24 hours a day, but especially in the mornings right before most court hearings started. Expanding to 3 lanes through probably saves me 10-15 minutes every time I go to court.

Agree re lane markers – they are a mess and people lane wander a lot as a result.

It really doesn't matter since the appointment will be a female Deputy District Attorney/Deputy Public Defender/Deputy U.S. Attorney.

How about the before Ron Israel not the after he put the robe on Ron Israel?

Scolded a lawyer in front of packed courtroom for asking to have settlement conference because ask was "too late." This achieves a new level of jerk in Clark County. A good friend would suggest a switch to sativa instead of indica.

Terry Coffing. He should have been appointed last time he was willing to put his hat in the ring. We need more judges who are experienced and reasonable civil trial lawyers.

I supported Terry the last time. Boy has he been a disappointment on the BoG, which is making me completely rethink him for any political office. Secondarily the BoG thing feels like he was trying to copy Scotti's path to the bench and Scotti has been an uneven disappointment.

Looked up mine because I couldn't remember and it was BAM.

This was back when we were not allowed to get our hoods at the private graduation and were ordered by Dean Smith to attend the big UNLV one. The latter was obnoxious and my family skipped it.

I remember mostly being anxious about the bar and jealous of the walkers who had already taken the February exam.
