Yes, I am on the cusp of retirement. Not so much by today’s blip. More so about the dampening effect of over regulation and the real possibility of recession, which would have a longer adverse term impact on my portfolio.
Same here. We will see if this is a short-term correction, or if it is something more serious. If you are still at the stage where you are contributing to a 401k, then max that out, or put in as much as you can, in order to take advantage of dollar cost averaging. If you are retired or semi-retired, make sure you have at least several months of living expenses in cash or a government bond fund so that you are not stuck selling equities during a downturn.
If the market tanks, Trump automatically wins basically. Love him or hate him, he’s gonna be the next President if we hit a recession going into the election. Keep in mind that Trump is the luckiest bastard that ever walked this earth. So you can bet a recession is coming.
I believe that a recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. We are less than 100 days before the election. I don’t see how a recession is technically possible. We will see rate cuts next month and the market will react positively.
I think the market is reacting to geo political issues.
The market is already over-juiced to begin with looking at price/earnings ratios. This was overdue. But agreed, if it continues it will 100% be a trump card for 45.
That doesn’t make it money. In an of itself. Its worthless. Said ones and zeros are manipulatable, devaluable and inflatable at the whims of the computer owners.
Gold and silver are also “worthless.” They only have value because we as a society agree they have value. Same with cash and specific collections of ones and zeroes.
Supply and demand are the governing principles. Anyone with a Econ 101 class under their belts has to understand that there is no such thing as money.
I am all gold, all silver and all decentralized crypto. Eff the stock market and the 401K and eff you for your refusal to open them baby blues/browns or greens as the case may be.
As someone with substantially more than Econ 101 under my belt, you don’t know what the hell you are talking about.
Ones and zeroes can be money. Gold can be money. Large, immovable stones can be money. What is money in one community is not necessarily money in another. Take your specu-coin and shove it.
There is not a single economic school of thought, from the far right Austrians (see, e.g. Murray Rothbard’s “History of Money and Banking”) to the neoclassical Chicago School of Econ, to laissez-faire that would agree with you that “there is no such thing as money.”
You can disagree about the inherent value of what we use as money, sure. You can argue that money should be based on this standard or that, and that central banking should or should not influence the general supply of money. But to say “there’s no such thing as money?” Dude, that just means you didn’t get past Econ 101 because you don’t understand the vocabulary of economics. Are you planning to eat or drink your gold, silver, and bitcoin? Will your gold, silver, and bitcoin be used to provide basic shelter?
In an long-term disaster scenario, clean, fresh water is more likely to be used as money than all the bitcoin you have stored in your e-wallet or suddenly discover missing because the exchange you use was fraudulent. Again.
I mean, not everyone. See, e.g. Ronin Network (hacked in 2022, loss of $625 million), Poly Network (2021, $600 million), FTX (2022, $600 million), Binance (2022, $570 million), Mt. Gox (2011, 2014, 775,000 bitcoins worth $42 billion today, and close to half a billion when stolen).
Jeremy Siegel has noted that gold has been no growth whatsoever since approx the year 1700. Silver is having problems now, and bitcoin mimics the Nasdaq. Are you sure about this approach?
I always laugh at the hubris of the Fed. They are overconfident in their ability to assess the market (remember “transitory inflation”) as well as their ability to properly guide monetary policy (the elusive “soft landing”). Still a better system than leaving monetary policy to political hacks incentivized by two year election cycles.
The fed has a dual mandate (controlling inflation and working to reduce unemployment when appropriate) and unfortunately that mandate does not directly pertain to concerns of the US stock markets – as Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee made clear yesterday.
Government action in general is defined by over compensation, no matter whether the issue is social or fiscal. It never gets the issue right and most often is the equivalent of using a hammer to drive a thumb tack.
1:01 here.
It occurred to me that the younger set may not know what a thumb tack is. Formerly useful for writing something on paper and the sticking it to a cork board with a metal fastener for others to read.
Try this metaphor. Using a shotgun to kill flies.
They don’t care about technical accuracy, or accuracy of any kind. When the market tanked yesterday, it was all Kamala’s fault. As of this momet, it has retraced about half of yesterday’s loss, and oddly I don’t hear a word from them about it.

We stopped going to Buca di Beppo because they only serve portions for 3. Therefore, if you have 2 diners, they get a lot of food. If you have 4 diners, they are required to order for 6 which doubles your bill. My 8 year old ordered a side of spaghetti (we thought) and she was served a portion for 3 which cost another $27.00. We considered the place a rip off.

I had my credit card info stolen by Bucco di Beppo employees on two consecutive visits, two years apart. I haven’t been back since.
Buca di Beppo coasts on mid-20th century New York/New Jersey Italian-American vibe. The food is shit. I mean, it’s so bad that it makes the Olive Garden look like something John Curtas would swoon over. I am sitting in my office judging all of the anonymous commenters who admit they’ve dined at Buca di Beppo.
Well said. I had never been and went with a big group back around 2006. Interesting enough decor so I guess I was hopeful but it was straight up disgusting. Maybe I just didn’t give enough points for flair.
I met many attorneys contracting from neighboring states. A lot more boutique firms are popping up. The competition is good! This will help improve the number and quality of attorneys in our community. why not let an attorney from other states into our profession?
So, save the profession already. Take 5 minutes to submit a comment. It does not have to be an appellant brief. Just get a few paragraphs on letter head.
Don’t know what to write? Look back at user comments from a week or so ago. Copy and paste.
Oof Madone! Buca’s ziti, you think it’s good? Everyone knows Buca’s ziti can’t hold a candle to Karen Baccalieri. Tone says Bobby should consider salad, but Bobby just can’t do it because Karen’s ziti is that good.
Buca di Beppo discovered the best baked ziti recipe in America is what they did. Buca is a brave Italian dining experience. And in this house, the employees and line cooks at Buca are heroes! End of story!

Is this a consentable conflict or not:
You represented a man in a custody dispute with a baby mama. (case now closed)
That same man had his girlfriend hire you for her custody dispute with her baby daddy. (case ongoing)
Now that same man wants to hire you to do his prenup with the girlfriend who also hired you.
It is when you have a written order with citations to the NRPC upon which to rely in good faith. BTW: we are on the other side of the case; we are the ones who raised the conflict and got it rejected.

Las Vegas needs more liquor stores like it needs more PI attorneys
Is there a listing of the largest law firms in Nevada?
You can look at the Nevada Legal Directory?
Morgan and Morgan based on their “SIZE MATTERS” billboards
Morgan and Morgan are growers, not showers.

Do do do do dooooooooo. 45-47!
There is no such thing as money.
Interesting. How many bags of rice do trade for your work?
Usually its just a collection of ones and zeros in a computer somewhere. But, there still is no such thing as money.
Can you provide a divisible portion of that collection of ones and zeroes in exchange for goods and services?
That doesn’t make it money. In an of itself. Its worthless. Said ones and zeros are manipulatable, devaluable and inflatable at the whims of the computer owners.
Gold and silver are also “worthless.” They only have value because we as a society agree they have value. Same with cash and specific collections of ones and zeroes.

OK, smart guy. Keep singing that song. It is your right.

Anyone that trades or stockpiles crypto moves the money from the exchange account to a personal decentralized wallet as soon as the trades are done.
That said, the true currency will be food, water and ammo, in the event of . . . . .

Rate cuts are too late to make a difference. They waited too long.

They were punishing your lack of taste
10:45 deserved to have his credit card stolen more than the public defender deserved to be targeted by OBC.
Technically my wife’s lack of taste (which is self evident) but you’re point is well taken.
All that pineapple juice for nothing!

I think the John Curtas shout out means you have a 4 digit bar number ?
11:22 AM. I have a five digit bar number, proh pudor! But I love me some John Curtas.
Lol, I missed the Bucca de Beppo story and was very confused why the comments were suddenly talking about it so much.
The title is what my girlfriend called me in high school. And I didn’t run track.
Did we have the same high school girlfriend? Cause that was my name in her phone (I also didn’t run track)
Is anyone going to comment on the radical overhaul of the Bar Exam? I think public comment ends soon.
Echoing the general sentiment on here, it’s insane and an afront to the legal profession.
Also, it makes it that much easier to flood Nevada’s markets with more attorneys – which isn’t good for anyone.
20% contingencies and a license that’s as easy to get as a real estate agent. Have people lost their fucking minds?
You are right! 10% seems more reasonable for people with the skills of a real estate agent.
We should just make it 6% so that all the realtor lawyers know how much they are going to make on every deal/sale/case.
I met many attorneys contracting from neighboring states. A lot more boutique firms are popping up. The competition is good! This will help improve the number and quality of attorneys in our community. why not let an attorney from other states into our profession?

That’s a .1 I don’t have to spare.
I can’t. I don’t have it. I don’t have a square to spare. I can’t spare a square.
You don’t have 30 seconds (rounded up) to spare?
Absolutely not. That’s insane
Then you lose the right to bitch about any changes…..
Nope. Just going to keep rewriting the same comment. Thank you for your insight my brother in Christ.
You haters suck, Buca baked ziti owns all of you.
Their tiramisu is about as good as any I have ever eaten.
Oof Madone! Buca’s ziti, you think it’s good? Everyone knows Buca’s ziti can’t hold a candle to Karen Baccalieri. Tone says Bobby should consider salad, but Bobby just can’t do it because Karen’s ziti is that good.
So good, that you just cant eat the last baked ziti in the freezer.
It’s anti-Italian discrimination!
Buca di Beppo discovered the best baked ziti recipe in America is what they did. Buca is a brave Italian dining experience. And in this house, the employees and line cooks at Buca are heroes! End of story!

Consentable or nah?
The steady stream of comments about OBC and you want to risk that? Go for it! Knowing consent is all you need.
You win the blawg today.
That he has no experience in civil or private practice creates massive blind spots.
My big toe has more trial experience than he does.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20wUS_bbOHY
Just had a Family Court judge decide last week that is a waivable conflict.
That’s not a strong argument.

Good point. We should just have fewer churches and schools.
