Their very lives might actually be saved by the decisions of some purported "radical leftist authoritarian governor." Nevada had 1,641 new cases yesterday and added 27 deaths to the nationwide total of nearly 250,000. But don't worry, we're rounding the corner, dipshit.
The Covid pandemic is certainly a game changer that our country has not seen for generations. We are faced with a choice between liberty and livelihood versus the health and safety of our society. A choice between individual rights and doing what our government(s) believes will help contain the pandemic. I believe that many individuals distrust the government and the decisions it has been making since all this started. Probably the only way out of this is if the governments on a national and local levels start to act in a consistent and coherent manner and demonstrate to its citizens that lockdowns, social distancing, mandatory mask wearing actually work. That has not been provided thus far.
10:20- how is it less deadly than the flu? Covid has been around less than a year and killed 4 times as many people as the flu killed in the highest year the flu ever had in the last 10 years, not to mention more than the last 5 years combined.
The virus may be overplayed, but please educate me on the data or facts showing it is less dangerous than the flu.
11:00, you are correct. 10:20 is maybe relying on bad sources for his/her information. I believe that the influenza mortality rate is around 0.001%. The Covid mortality rate varies depending on age. I believe that the youngest from 0-10 in age the mortality rate is 0.002%, and then increases to 15% at age 85.
11:00 look up mortality rates for COVID. 99.99% chance of survival? So why care? Maybe if your old or something take some precautions, but for the vast majority of the population it is not a threat.
Why can't people see all this COVID crap is just a way for the authoritarian left to take more control over our daily lives?
There you have it. As you can see here, it's no use trying to talk facts and sense with the "it's-less-deadly-than-the-flu" maroons. You're wasting your time. It's stubborn, aggressive ignorance that refuses to be educated. People are dying of COVID and their last words are that it is not real, it's a hoax. Marooned to death.
11:15 hate to break it to you but facts and sense are fictional. Truth and fact died sometime around 2015 in my estimation. So in this post truth reality, just pick the brand of bullshit that gives you comfort and stick to it.
Amazing how much more productive this would all be if people had basic literacy in statistics. Anyone citing a survival rate that includes people who have not been infected is dishonest or simply in over their head.
What is troubling is the method of counting COVID cases. My understanding is that ANY death from ANY primary cause in which the virus is detected is listed as a COVID death. Example; Myocardial infarction causing sudden death. The deceased was positive for COVID but showed no symptoms. This is counted as a COVID death.
– I also understand that hospitals receive a sizable federal contribution for every death reported as COVID.
11:54 cite some authority for those statements. You sound like Trump. “I hear” this or that so it must be true. I hear I have a 12 inch penis. It is not true. I measured. The measurement is what establishes the fact.
What's telling is the facts that are conveniently missing. How many people have tested positive for the flu virus this year? We don't know because we don't test for the flu at the rate that we test for Covid. It would be a relevant comparison to this Covid virus.
It's a reasonable assumption that if we did mass testing for the flu virus, the flu positivity rate would be very high. And, of those testing positive, many would be asymptomatic, have mild symptoms, or perhaps a fever, achiness, etc. And a few would have serious complications due to the flu, such as pneumonia, ultimately resulting in death. In addition, if someone went to the hospital and died from an issue unrelated to the flu but tested positive for the flu, similar to how we test people admitted to the hospital for Covid, the death (in the same Covid counting way) would be counted as a flu death, similarly driving up the flu related death numbers.
This is not a conspiracy or far reaching logic, it is reasonable thinking. Those of you pounding the table in support of fear driving data absent logic are acting as useful idiots for those that are seeking evermore power and control. You should be questioning the motivation and data as everyone else, regardless of politic affiliation.
@12:09
I am sorry to hear that you have a micropenis. It is an interesting fact but not helpful. Can you cite any authority regarding the method of tally for COVID reporting. Ah..thought not.
11:54– let me clarify the previous comment (to be fair). The "Every death and case is reported as COVID" is demonstrably false and has been debunked. The allegation that hospitals are given a premium for COVID cases has an element of truth to it but has several qualifiers. I should have been clearer in my 12:37 post.
Hey, all of you! Anyone ready and willing to go out maskless to a crowded disco and dance the night away? No? Then shut the f*ck up. Yes? The magnitude of your stupidity continues to amaze and mystify. Geez!!! Can't we all just agree that we need to work together to get past this nightmare?
It's bizarre to me that average people (commenters here included) think they have the knowledge and authority to make these kinds of decisions regarding public health. Experts who have real training and experience in handling pandemics have said stay home, wear a mask, stay socially distanced, and wash your hands…and somehow we've managed to make that political. It's bonkers. Bottom line is that none of you know what you're talking about. Parroting fox news or trump is nothing short of stupid. Just do what the experts say so we can get through this. We're so close to a vaccine. Just stay the course…wear your f-ing masks.
As far as all these pots on this thread, let's get right to the point. These three simple rules explain everything:
1. Very few people conduct an objective, independent analysis. Instead, they just mindlessly parrot the talking points and clichés currently in vogue with the political party they belong to, and then claim that they are guided by the "science" while the opposing side is entirely controlled by "party politics." So, in that sense they are at least half-right as both sides are entirely controlled by party politics.
2. If you are a democrat, covid is a deadly scourge, comparable to the bubonic plague
3. If you are a republican, covid is really no worse than the flu.
Now that we know these simple three rules, we should all stop trying to constantly claim the moral high ground, and stop insisting that we are always guided by sound science while the other side is dominated by political concerns.
That all being said, covid is real and is a lot more serious than a flu bug but, no, we cannot dial back and retreat to mass closures, etc. That will simply destroy the economy for good, and no pandemic relief funds would put much of a dent in that travesty.
So, I guess since I agree with both sides I need not climb my soap box and bellow that I am highly principled and guided by "science" while opposing sides are just political shills.
@3:05 I gotta disagree. No one should be listening to ANY politicians on this. The science should and must come from experts. Not trump. Executive orders, shut downs, etc should be guided by science. Further, weird conspiracy theories routinely come from one side of the aisle and not the other. trump has managed to politicize this and his followers blindly agree with him. Surgeons can miraculously wear masks for 8 hour surgeries and be fine, but housewives in Anthem can't wear them into the grocery because their O2 levels will drop and they'll die and freedom and 'merica and blah blah.
Finally, the plague was/is a bacteria. Covid is a virus. I'd be happy if it was comparable to the plague…antibiotics would've ended this before it began.
3:45 what is science tho? On TV you can find one scientist saying climate crisis will end the world in 10 years. Then flip over to another channel and they have one who says global warming is nothing to worry about.
3:45 here – the climate change scientists are actually a good example, but not for the reason you think it is. John Oliver did a bit on this a few years ago. TV shows present it as if there are equal numbers of scientists on both sides of the climate change issue by having one of each appear on the show, but that's false. There are like 5 scientists (funded by oil companies) who claim it's not a big deal and there are like 5 million scientists who say it is a big deal. When TV shows have one of each on, they are presenting the issue as if it's an equivalent argument on both sides when that is absolutely not true. To make it a representative discussion you'd have to have 100+ scientists on to debate with the one climate denier.
So, science is a thing. You just have to use critical thinking skills and not accept what you see on one particular show as factual.
3:45–Forgive me, but I believe 3:05 was being sarcastic, and trying to make a point, when saying people claim they are basing their views on science, while in actuality their views are dominated by party affiliation. So, when you "disagree" with 3:05 and say that no one should be listening to politicians on this issue but should be relying on the science, that is exactly the point 3:05 appears to be making–that people claim they are basing their views on science, but more often their views are dominated by blind party allegiance.
So, when you say you are disagreeing with 3:05, when in actuality you seem to strongly agree with the post, this proves the additional point that 3:05 is alluding to–people don't read or listen carefully but are in such a rush or hurry to be contentious and disagree with something, even when they are in fact agreeing.
Don't assume 5:08 was not billing when they wrote that post.

In order for Trump to win the required 270 electoral votes, he will need to change the election results in at least five states. The states with the closest vote results are Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. It is very unlikely that he will end up with more votes than Biden under any circumstances. I believe what the filed lawsuits are trying to to do is to prevent those states from declaring Biden the winner and preventing him from receiving 270 electoral votes.
If Trump is able to do that, then the election would go to Congress for a contingent election under the 12th Amendment. Trump would then need 26 votes out of 50 to win the election. I believe this is the only way in which Trump can win the election. His chances seem very small. I say let the lawyers battle it out and we can just move forward with our lives and see what happens with a Biden administration.
If the votes are found, yeah. But in my mind the lawsuits are valuable to assure that future elections are clean counts, and, if there has been unlawful conduct, prosecution of individuals.
And before badmouthing these lawsuits, consider that Democrats filed something like 60 lawsuits pre-election to skew the system for them.
That is the first time heard about lawsuits being filed pre-election. Do you have any sources? I would love to read about those lawsuits being filed before the election and under what context and what the lawsuits attempted to accomplish.

With the Starvos Anthony/Ross Miller race, I certainly understand the recount as the margin was a mere 10 votes out of over 150,000 cast.
But, taking their cue in large part from what is happening on the national stage, everything is at least a serious irregularity, and perhaps even vile frauds.
It's too bad that we are no longer in a society where a close race can be just that–a close race. No, now whenever something is close it is a horrific, pervasive fraud and the winning candidate was almost entirely elected based on dead people and illegal residents voting for them.
I know it's outrageous for me to suggest that there may be nothing seriously wrong with the integrity of this Commission race, but that a recount is appropriate simply because it was decided by a mere 10 votes.
Invariably, the party with the slight lead will claim the election was impeccable and beyond question. However, if the recount happens to now go against them, they will be the one now claiming that their opponent was elected via the efforts of dead voters and illegal residents.
Elections are not won–they are stolen. We are becoming aware of the massive fraud in this election. This election was different because of the mail in unrequested ballots. The ballots are not secured nor verified. They are not a full secret ballot. You can not renew your driver's license by mail in or many other activities. You get notices but have to take steps to prove who you are. But not in voting. The whole system is flawed.
Okay 3:18, Trumpette, the election was by and large fine. Stop trying to parrot the idiot-in-chief's talking points and suck it up as all the pro-Democrat and pro-Hilary people had to suck it up 4 years ago.
3:33 how would you know whether there is fraud or not? How are you any better than 3:18 as you are essentially just throwing out the left wing media talking points. The lack of self-awareness is historic.
3:33 the pro-dems and pro-Hilary people have not been sucking it up for 4 years, they've been whining, crying, kicking, screaming, burning and looting for the last four years. Those that feel entitled don't take losing well…they me even cheat to make sure that they don't lose again, imagine that.
Can we get back to this being a law blog? I'm curious if anybody thinks the CCBCC had the authority to order a special election under Nevada law. I don't see anything allowing the board to refuse to certify the vote with no direct evidence that any "discrepancies" actually affected the outcome. And if they did, then wouldn't that require the county to disallow those votes and adjust the vote totals? Politics aside, I just don't see how they could do this.
This thread all goes back to the point made by 3:05–republicans assume there is rampant fraud, while democrats assume these races are all on the up and up.
Just like democrats think covid is the bubonic plague, while republicans view it as no worse than the flu.
