"I'll be very brief" is the new "with all due respect." On a court call- so yes that's random. Also – is everyone taking pleasure in seeing the Courts flooded with hearings? I do because I've had my feet held to the fire on so many cases the last 3 months with little to no relief on deadlines, etc. Love seeing Judges bitch and moan about their dockets and resetting hearings. How about we all realize we're human and loosen the deadlines because COVID impacted us all. My 12 hour days aren't getting it done. Anyone else? No complaint to have work – but not getting reasonable relief on deadlines is about to drive me over a cliff. I feel like a major mistake for me is on the horizon.
Yeah I've noticed some of the judges are obviously overwhelmed and I have zero sympathy for them. One popular family court judge (and I mean popular with all due sarcasm) was really awful to some of my client's in the middle of covid and now she's completely buried in cases. Too bad so sad.
Maybe those judges will have to stop leaving the building at 1:30, and perhaps come in on Fridays. Maybe…
10 bucks says the federal eviction moratorium will be extended. And then extended again. Maybe even again after that.
I'll take the bet. Didn't SCOTUS say the CDC doesn't have authority to extend the moratorium?
Boy, this comment and reply distill how politics has taken over his blog, to the detriment of reasoned analysis and paying attention to the law. Kudos 11:50. You are right! However, there is some nuance because Congress could do so in statute in order to avoid that SCOTUS decision. Such an action may or may not be constitutional, re: interstate commerce/state police power arguments, but it would at least make it enforceable going forward by avoiding that recent decision. However, such an attempt is DOA in Congress, primarily due to the Senate. That is likely why Biden called on them to do it: he gets free credit with his base, and avoids the consequences.
10:50 back again – I checked a little more. The decision left in place the moratorium, but Kavanaugh's concurrence (and 5th vote) indicated Congress would need to authorize a new moratorium, the CDC doesn't have the authority to do so.
And it looks like Biden has called on them to extend it, but like 11:58 said, very likely won't happen.
So I'll still collect my $10 from 11:18 🙂
AOC and the Squad likely response – no one should have to pay rent. Free rent is a fundamental right.
1118 here. I do believe Congress will extend. My comment stands, 1158.
Not a chance. They won't get fifty votes in the Senate, let alone sixty. I also doubt they get a majority of the House.
11:18, it's 11:58 – where do you want to take me to lunch next week?
Your choice. Just keep in mind the $10 cap.
12:39 grow up. That is not what she believes. Try contributing something useful next time.
AOC doesnt even know what she believes. It shifts with the wind on the hourly. Use this! 1056.
Whoever is paying Chesnoff's office in the Zaon Collins case is definitely getting his or her money's worth. 99.9% of people in that position would already have pled guilty and be serving their sentence.
Is there any doubt that kid is going to walk?
my bet is he beats the DUI but eats the reckless felony. Don't they have him going 90 plus in a 30?
DA's office will fuck this up. They all shit themselves every time they see Chesnoff.
And Jessica Williams spent 20 years in prison.
Williams was not a sports star with Gorman and UNLV power people in her corner. UNLV's basketball future, alumni money.
Fair to other offenders, No.
Good for justice, no.
Yep, he will get special treatment, reduced charges, lower term.
Sad.
I am glad the Baucum stood up to the pressure. Way to go, girl.
And this woman is still at work, in family court, getting other people's kids taken away. At least the police are put on administrative leave while an "investigation," is underway when they screw up.
