I hadn’t heard of him before. Of course he’s a religious weirdo. When these zealots start ranting about a problem invariably it’s projection. So gross.
He was discussed, albeit briefly, in the comments on this blawg in the context of Operation Underground Railroad and the Sound of Freedom big screen grift. There was a commenter who asserted that TB was solid and good and had done all sorts of wonderful things. The whole thread got nuked sometime after that.
There was a person in that nuked thread who claimed to have personally met Tim Ballard and taken a "measure of the man" and determined that Tim Ballard was a man of character and integrity. It's tempting to scoff at that comment now, not just for the "measure of the man" idiom, but for how much this person was duped. In reality, it should be a cautionary tale for all of us. Humans, dare I say especially lawyers, tend to over estimate our ability to judge and discern the character and intentions of others. We would all be better served by approaching our judgments of others with a little more humility. Grifters and conmen often dupe very intelligent savvy people, including lawyers. Everyone should be cautious, but not necessarily misanthropic.
I regularly inject myself with ketamine and commune with Samuel the Lamanite via my psychic medium before making any major life decisions like trying to create a harem out of my employees.
"Ahem . . "
It's Utah, they NOT employees and are ALL Independent Contractors and they all signed agreements to that effect.
@2:36 – AKA Boss babes.
The allegations against TB are all still just that, allegations in a civil suit. So let's not hastily jump to conclusions as to their veracity just because it fits your political leanings.
@8:23 – I mean both the LDS church and Glenn Beck have condemned Tim Ballard and his conduct. I suspect at this point it's not about "political leanings." It's about distancing yourself from toxic/crazy.
8:23 AM, these are not naked allegations. If you look at the reporting done, particularly by Vice News and Lynn Kenneth Packer, the evidence against Tim Ballard is overwhelming, approaching conclusive. There are a ton of people in Las Vegas, including many attorneys, who have given TB money. I get that it's hard to accept that someone you looked up to is the exact opposite of what he portrayed himself to be. I genuinely sympathize with that. But let's not pretend that there are any serious unanswered questions as to who Tim Ballard is.
Perhaps, its about distancing.
But, having seen both Beck's comments about TB and read the church's statement, I wouldn't objectively call them a "condemnation".
Beck said on his show, directly to TB, if you did something wrong, you need to repent and you should do so. The Church didn't condemn him personally, just denied statements that TB was alleged to have made regarding support and blessings from a Church higher up (also named Ballard, no relation).
IF its proven that he has done even a fraction of the things he is accused of, then those actions should certainly be condemned by rational people. But that said, allegations in a civil suit are just that. Allegations.
Its simply not enough to convince me just making conclusory allegations. Not for TB, not for Trump and not for the Cicceti kid accused of rape. Shit, not even for Rob Telles. Prove the case, or STFU with parroting the popular narrative.
Please as lawyers (presumably) employ some objectivity and skepticism when another lobs accusations.
@857 I have never given TB or OUR money and I have no real opinions about who he is as a human being. Let alone "looking up to him". THIS is the point.
First of all, Vice is far from "journalism" and the bulk of what I have seen from them on TB has been calling into question his claims relative to OUR and those portrayed in the Sound of Freedom movie. asserting that this reporting is "approaching conclusive" says more about you than it does about Vice. Vice is nothing more than digital "National Enquirer" nonsense.
Let's just pump the brakes before spouting "facts" when they are merely allegations in a civil suit seeking millions in damages. You're better than this.
@9:08 Did you read the church's press release that it issued and then subsequently took down less than 24 hours later? It was a pretty clear rebuke. The subsequent press release was more mild, but the initial was a pretty strong condemnation. "Morally unacceptable" is how they referred to him and his conduct. Notably Glenn Beck defended TB after the church issued this release, and then clawed his defense back with some damning statements after he reviewed the allegations and spoke to the witnesses.
"Once it became clear Tim Ballard had betrayed their friendship, through the unauthorized use of President Ballard’s name for Tim Ballard’s personal advantage and activity regarded as morally unacceptable, President Ballard withdrew his association. President Ballard never authorized his name, or the name of the Church, to be used for Tim’s personal or financial interests.
In addition, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints never endorsed, supported or represented OUR, Tim Ballard or any projects associated with them."

8:23 and 9:20,
It's easier to substantiate the allegations against TB than it is to substantiate any of the stories he has told about rescues. Heck, he made a video confirming large parts of the allegations in an attempt to explain them away.
Clearly. But, lets wait for a verdict and see what is actually proven (civil BOP) at trial.
This story is fascinating. U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Judge Jerry E. Smith published a fake opinion — "the Fifth Circuit panel opinion that should have been issued" — as an attachment to his dissent in a case where he was on the losing side of a 2-1 vote. https://www.lawdork.com/p/a-dissenting-fifth-circuit-judge
A fake opinion that includes the names of other judges as authors. It's lunacy, even for the lunatic 5th Circuit. If you want to dissent, dissent. If you lost a vote and no longer have the majority, don't do this.
That's actually WILD!
But, its a shame to let all that hard work that I did while I thought I was writing for the majority go to waste . . . . so there ya go!
if i'm still doing this when I'm 100, you have my permission to shoot me.
