Today is such a sad day for me. In the early 90s I went to UNLV and my closest friend for about 3-4 years was a guy named Stan Armstrong. As young guys do, we worked out together, went out to eat, etc. We lost touch a few years ago. Then not two months ago, I thought I'd look him up and say hi. Then today I looked in the paper and found he had Passed Away. I have no point except to say that life in this world seems to go so fast. Please reach out to your loved ones today. For those interested, here is a link to a Las Vegas treasure. Also, and probably a noteworthy testament to Stan's fairness, he was a black filmmaker studying racial interests and I am white and proud to have been his best friend for a few years. https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/local-las-vegas/film-community-mourns-prolific-documentarian-former-unlv-professor-2665181/

Perhaps share what led you to lose touch for 30 years with your best friend who was right here in town.

11:32 thank you for asking. We kept in touch for all those years and only lost touch a few years ago. Nothing really eventful happened, it just seemed like one day faded into the next. If I had to pick one thing, I'd say it was the stress of my law practice as I believe, looking back on life, that it cost me friends, my marriage, and a host of other costs. It was my choice and I don't blame "the law" but I blame me. I never would have chased money, etc. if I had it to do over. But thank you for the kindness inherent in asking. I hope you have a great day and hug the ones you love.

God bless. As Tom Brady has learned, marriage is hard work and it's hard to have two masters. I had to pick marriage over career but was it the correct choice?

Carrying over a discussion from yesterday. Someone said they thought the Telles murder trial would be the "trial of the century." What is the extent of the public's interest in the Telles trial? The local media is understandably *very* interested and upset, so we will see a lot of coverage. It seems like there is a decent level of interest in the legal community. Beyond that, what is the interest?

I've had inquiries from estate planning/trust clients and probate clients, when this first happened, asking me why the county was still paying his salary while he was in jail. I had a lot of questions about that right after the murder occurred, but not too many questions lately. I don't see it as something the general public would remain interested in. The RJ and possibly other newspapers will have to keep publishing stories in the headlines to keep the interest active, but I do not see it as the "trial of the century." There's not a whole lot of intrigue, mystery, celebrity, etc; like the O.J. trial, or silver buried in the desert tied to a murder of a LV casino owner.

I lived through the Binion trial. I cannot imagine anything bigger than that. Here is why, EVERYONE wanted to know about it because it was still a small community. Now people are here who have no relationship to anything and it is just passing curiosity.

It's a murder of a prominent journalist by an elected official, allegedly. So maybe that gets it to trial of the decade. But nobody knows what the public administrator does, and let's be real most civilians would not recognize German's name. It's a big one, but it's no Binion or OJ.

I doubt much interest in the general public. No one under the age of 35 has cable or watches local news.

I've had people from out of state ask me about it. And everyone who hears about it – an elected official allegedly killing a journalist for his stories – thinks it's crazy. I bet it generates a lot of coverage.

I agree with 11:23. And it was so big because it had all the juicy elements: casino mogul, sex, drugs, relationship infidelity, major theft, intrigue, and so much more.

But what also made it so big is that the verdict was far from being some far-gone conclusion. The State did initially obtain a conviction, but is seemed highly questionable how the expert tied the defendants in with the supposed murder of Binion. And sure enough, the case was ordered for a new trial, which then resulted in an acquittal.

The case was the trajectory for David Roger being elected D.A. two years later in 2002, as well as co-prosecutor being elected as a judge that same year.

Now, Telles case also has some pretty intriguing drama, but is not close to being as salacious as the Binion case. Also, the big difference is there does not appear to be much doubt of Telles being culpable, while in the Binion matter it was anyone's guess as to how each trial would wind up.

Another big trial around that time was Margaret Rudin, on trial for murdering her affluent husband.

They used to have gavel to gavel coverage of these trials on a local new station(Las Vegas #1, I believe) but I believe that station is defunct for quite some time and it has been years since we have seen a local trial broadcast in its entirety.

no one cares about it, because Las Vegas is a transient, soulless place, full of sketchy characters like Telles, and men with no honor, like German.

At least in Binions day, there was the hope that Vegas would turn into something better. Now, even that pipe dream is gone. Grab what you can, and fuck over the next guy. Go Knights! Sabe?

Why would German be a man without honor? If he aggressively exposed corruption in public officials, isn't that something that is really positive and benefits the public?

Do you have any evidence that he went hard after some people who did not deserve such scrutiny and exposure?

I am not 4:33 but can tell you that yes German took joy in gotchas. It was his business and his pleasure. There are lawyers (quite a few of us) who do the same thing: take great glee in our gotchas. Sometimes gratuitously taking pleasure in the suffering we inflict upon others. German was that way. He went hard after who he could get. Sometimes that is good but it requires a bit of self-control and self-reflection to know when bad is bad and when enough is enough. I will be the last person to tell you that German deserved what befell him which was and is a horrific crime. There are no excuses or mitigation for the crime. But the notion that all he did was the Lord's work is the pious bullshit that so many of us peddle.

The thing is, when someone dies, especially unjustly, they go through a post-mortem beatification. It's not that the story about who they were is a lie, but that the unflattering parts are minimized and forgotten and the admirable parts are amplified.

Furthermore history is written by the winners and the journalists. The beatification comes when you let their friends write the book.

Why are there no long term voting sites in Summerlin? Smacks of voter supression….making it more difficult for actual payors of tax to vote. The Meadows mall is dangerous.

Folks cannot seriously bitch about voting impediments in Southern Nevada. We can mail, we can drop off, there are tons of sites. A modicum of effort is all it takes. The hardest part is deciding – either I know none of the candidates or like a multistate question I'm choosing the least wrong answer.

I just hope the local machine is able to stop the red wave. Untraceable mail in ballots are a critical component, so thank you to the legislature for boldly ensuring we did not follow electoral reform embraced by so many other states and countries.

Yes, yes, mail-in ballots are a well-known source of Democrat fraud, as shown by the overwhelming Democratic control of (checks notes) Utah.

The mail in ballots are fraught with fraud. The Elections Department was overwhelmed with unverifiable mail in ballots which they accepted in 2020. All those votes were, of course, for Biden. Amazing how that happened. I know of two folks whose husbands died and their dead husbands voted D. They were both sold Rs. The software which was supposed to catch unmatching signatures was set low. The Elections Department did not have the time to carefully review those ballots and verify addresses. Many of the addresses were the same. I received a mail in ballot. I did not want one. They wanted my mail in ballot this time around when I voted. Signed the affidavit. I jammed my shredder shredding it. I heard that neighbors received ballots for tolks who long ago moved. The problem is the mail in ballots. This needs to be done away with. No I don't buy the election of 2020 was stolen but there were so many irregularities. Joe Gloria the Elections Head here in Clark County said publicly that you don't have to reside here to vote. He should know better. You need residency but don't hae to be physically in the state. He is not the sharpest pencil in the drawer.

Dear 10:05,

Feel free to provide evidence for any of your conclusory statements. For example, I call absolute bullshit on your claim that dead husbands voted Democrat. Even if there was a record of them voting, which I personally suspect is just more bullshit, the record wouldn't show how they voted. Which means the only way your "friends" know how the vote was counted is if the entire thing is made up to fit a narrative. The Nevada GOP claimed 1500 dead voters. After going through the claims, Secretary of State found just 10, and referred those to law enforcement. One of those was the Republican CFO of Ahern, who plead guilty and got deferred adjudication. As long as he stays out of trouble for the next few weeks, it'll be a misdemeanor Conspiracy to Vote More than Once (C-21-360352-1).

10:05/10:43– I am not 10:26 and I am willing to keep an open mind to your claims. Can you give me a citation or some evidence regarding mail-in ballots that came in without matching signatures that were all for Biden? I would love to be able to use evidence rather than anecdotal anonymous reports in discussions with other people.

Dead persons voting. The person whose dead husband voted discussed with Elections Department and this is what they learned. They were still grieving from their loss. They reported the person's passing and learned they had voted. The voter rolls are not properly purged. There was no formal investigation and no hearing we will never know for sure.

True confession: the best part of this new working from home scenario that came about because of the pandemic is that I'm finally able to power nap when I need to. Kids and then the pandemic really messed up my sleep schedule. I tend to get from 5.5-7 hours of sleep a night. When i had a rough night I still get up and start work as normal and if needed, I take a 20 minute nap. It's been life changing and something I wanted a long time ago. It may not work for you, but it sure works for me!

I was getting about 4 hours of sleep a night for years up until several years ago, when I developed a nasty respiratory illness (pre-Covid time) for several months that weakened my heart and gave me early stage congestive heart failure symptoms.

Everything's good now and I really try to get at least 6-7 hours of sleep a night and don't drink tons of coffee, which was previously masking my serious sleep deficiency. I seriously was drinking 6-8 cups a day and now don't drink more than 2.

So yes, I would be a positive, or whatever you would call it, in that study.

This has been going on for like five months now. I have done the exact same thing with them previously and had no issues. I am honestly at a loss here.
