The Nevada Current headline: "Goodman resurrects ordinance to punish homeless sleeping on sidewalks"
#fakenews
#dyxjubfidiots
How about this for a headline "City Council considering action to protect the public and homeless from dangerous and unsanitary California conditions"
California, like a fungus, is creeping into Las Vegas. We don't need to live where people pee and poo whereever the want. Let's use some fungus repellant to keep the creep out.
Public urination and defecation are entirely separate crimes. This ordinance doesn't punish those. This ordinance punishes sleeping on the sidewalk. So, yeah. The Current headline is accurate. #fakenewsmyass
The Nevada Current headline is incorrect – the ordinance is created to provide motivation to push the homeless to the shelters where they should be and where they can be better provided for instead of camping in the sidewalks dropping feces, urine, and needles like this was San Francisco. If there are beds available at the shelter, and services can be provided to them to help them, why should they not be there? I'm down at south 215/Durango area and there's been an increase of homeless in our area which is not covered by the City's ban, and I don't see the County enacting a similar ban (although I would support it of course.)
You liberals are contra society simply to prove a point. Always whiny. "It's wrong to concentrate homeless where there are beds, bathrooms and services. We just need to raise more taxes to pay for homeless." We can't raise taxes everytime one of you LIBS finds a new vanity cause.
No,there will be no more new taxes. You LIBS lost your privilege to ask for more tax money when your hero Gov Sisohack took $750,000,000 to build a stadium. The hard working citizens of Nevada still have to pay for infra structure and law enforcement to support the stadium. What a great idea!
Homeless should not sleep wherever they want. We need to move the homeless to an area where services can be delivered with efficiency. Or, maybe we should house the homeless at the Stadium (in Gov Sisohack's suite). I really don't care where if it's not on the doorstep of my office.
Everyone is wrong. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Shocker, I know.
If you look at the ordinance, it would only prohibit sleeping on the sidewalk in certain areas of the city. It's not a total city-wide ban. So it looks like this is in the gray area that was left unaddressed after the Jones and Martin v. Boise decisions. Those decisions say you can't ban sleeping/camping on all public property if there are no beds available since it essentially criminalizes the status of being poor/homeless. But partial prohibitions against camping in certain areas (often parks or other specific sections of a city) have been upheld. It'll probably be up to the courts to more clearly explain when cities go too broad.
Nice straw man 12:54. Also, even if people were arguing for more taxes, those taxes would be to build more beds and provide more services at shelters so that police could then legally enforce anti-camping laws. I'm trying to understand your argument that the dirty libs wanting to raise taxes to help the homeless is bad when you say that the homeless should move to an area where services can be delivered with efficiency. That's how spending on homelessness works. I'm trying to reconcile the two but then I realized 12:54 is the angry screed of someone who just wants to make a political point via a straw man argument and to give it the weight it's worth.
Seriously, unless you are a teenager, everything has consequences. So although "no new taxes" is the chant we all like to hear, there will be. First, sell the plane! Also, for those who write laws… make sure taxes they collect actually go to the cause and not their slush fund.
What taxes go to what slush fund? Sales taxes? Is the slush fund maintained by the State Treasurer or somewhere else? I have so many questions 2:54.

Whenever I see someone use monikers like "Gov Sisohack" or "Obummer" I just automatically assume they lack both self-awareness and basic critical thinking skills, to say nothing of a real sense of humor. 12:54 PM, help me understand what is going on in your head when you write something like that. Do you think we will find you witty, clever or funny? Do you believe that you originated Sisohack? What is it you are hoping to accomplish with me and other members of the audience with "Gov Sisohack"? Because, I can tell you that when I read dumb monikers like that in a comment, I usually assume the author is remedial, I dismiss what I've read and then usually stop reading. I have a hard time believing that you are an attorney, 12:54. Even an incompetent attorney knows to whom s/he writes and is aware of the way his/her language will affect the audience. You seem to lack this self-awareness, which makes me feel sorry for you.
And, for the record, I did not vote for Governor Sisolak.
I agree with 5:43 that 12:54 does not draw the reader in when the post starts off with the one millionth recycling of "Obummer" and "Gov. Sisohak."
It's like when people act like they are being original an incisive when they regurgitate the term "drive by media", which ha been used billions of times.
One need not be original to ma a good point, but it might help to not draw undue attention to one's total unoriginality and complete lack of individual thought and analysis.
Now perhaps this is an unfair prejudice on my part, but I believe most people with at least half a brain would agree with me. People who toss out idiotic, and dreadfully unoriginal nicknames, tend to be quite sophomoric with little or nothing worthwhile to say. Have you ever read anything that you find thoughtful and persuasive that included re-hashings of "Obummer" or "dive by media" ?

Is this proposed ordinance going to run into any problems under Martin v. City of Boise, 902 F.3d 1031 (9th Cir. 2018)?
Public urination and defecation are entirely separate crimes. This ordinance doesn't punish those. This ordinance punishes sleeping on the sidewalk. So, yeah. The Current headline is accurate. #fakenewsmyass
Looks like the draft ordinance is being tailored to apply only when there are beds available, so it's expressly contending with the Martin case.

12:54, nobody brought up raising new taxes.

Move the homeless to Rachel. They are a curse and a burden on society

Demohack. Someone call the burn ward.
5:43 is obviously a lazy bastard who couldn't do more than a bachelor's degree before law school…
"You only have a bachelor's degree and a JD" Yet another sick burn. Be careful out here everyone, we're still in wildfire season.
