  • Someone mentioned it in the comments yesterday and someone else let us know in a survey response, but apparently LawyersWest shut down abruptly on December 2. Anyone have details?

It is probably the same person who posted a different filing 3 times yesterday with absolutely no information.

The key here is the fact that it was a Petition under SCR 118. If a lawyer can't practice anymore for various reasons (death, disappearance, disbarment, dismemberment), Bar Counsel can ask the presiding judge to appoint counsel for the lawyer's clients. Looks like that's what's happening here.

The filing asks the court to appoint attorneys to take over Rob Graham's (LawyersWest) practice. It states that he abandoned his practice on 12/2, fired all his employees and left his client files in rented office space. He was apparently about to be evicted and his trust account was frozen two days ago in another case.

Jasen and Brandi Cassady have been appointed to take over his files.

The trust account was frozen in "In re Michael Machnin, deceased," which explains why that was posted several times yesterday, although it doesn't explain why the poster couldn't be arsed to provide some context.

There is an allegation of over $1 Million Dollars which was to be transferred by Graham that was not transferred. That tends to get peoples' attention.

One of my clients has money in trust with Lawyerswest. Are we all racing to freeze the account? First come, first serve? Do we file a claim with the Bar?

Was Robert Graham implicated in the guardian ring? Harry Reid's affiliates did.

at 3:28 , A very large majority of counsel in this town is dirty. Vegas is a hustler's town. Find your "hustle" learn it inside out and work it until you can't anymore or you are given signals that come with consequences and weigh the risk. That is the business of law!

It looks bad for Rob Graham. Maybe there's an explanation for all this. I hope so, but it isn't looking likely. I've litigated against Rob quite a bit. I found him to be pretty reasonable and honest, so this is stunning. I always liked him and I trusted him. I always thought he was an effective advocate for his clients and that his work product was top notch. That Rob may have (emphasis on MAY) engaged in improper conduct serves as a reminder that every single one of us is capable of succumbing to temptation. This looks like a really sad story.

I like Rob personally but its hard not to see that he used to practice with Boggess (who is a nice guy but has had his ethical issues) and Wilde (who is not exactly the most ethical).

At 5:30; anyone can make any wikipedia page. The "everyone can do it" feature is the core essence of anything labeled "wiki". Once a page is made, the editorial crews come along and delete anything unworthy.

You'll get lectured though if you try to just post a marketing page. If there's no compelling reason for you to have an entry (i.e., you're public official, subject of a news story, have your own reality show, etc.) they'll delete it.

I am not the person who posted yesterday (well I did post the "Why do you think he shut down" because I saw a LawyersWest ad last week). SCR 118 is a provision for the Appointment of Counsel to protect Clients once an attorney transfers to Disability Inactive Status, Suspended or Abandoned their practice. According to ODYSSEY, the Petition was filed by State Bar Counsel Phil Pattee.

It's been a few years now. Some of the folks went to Armstrong Teasdale. Some went to Morris Polich & Purdy. The lucky ones still got Roberto's on Tuesdays.

Shea and Carlyon were given offers by bigger firms. Pat went with AT. Candace went with Wieczorek. No smoke there.
