Doug Smith was consistently the worst judge I ever appeared before, and that's saying something. Well, ok, maybe one of the top three worst judges. Surly, intemperate, played favorites, just made up his own "rules" on the fly. Good riddance.

Doug Smith at least what you see is what you get unlike the other slimey bastards on the bench.

I'm not sure how that helps if what you saw was a repeated refusal to apply the law.

Best Doug Smith story of all time: Smith is driving and sees a guy he thinks is driving drunk. He calls the cops and follows him to his house. Guy goes inside. Bucky Buchanan represents the guy at trial and defense is that this mean guy was following him so he went in his house and had to have some drinks. Not guilty.

I miss Bucky Buchanan. Larger than life. Died in some exotic sports car while or shortly after enjoying the company of a hot young woman. May the Good Lord have made room for him in heaven.

All I can say is that I hope the man freed due to Smith's misconduct was truly innocent otherwise he got away with sexual assault of a six year old girl which makes me physically ill.

Smith royally screwed up one of my cases. It was for my best friend's mom too. It really sucked having to have that conversation. "Sorry, I lost your case, if its any consolation, the judge is a corrupt asshole."

So if the accusation is sexual assault against a child, we no longer do due process huh?

Why are you blaming NVSC? They aren't the ones who violated due process. This is like a sports fan who gets upset at the refs when a player on their team commits an obvious foul.

Blame the refs, I guess. But that's stupid. It wasn't their fault.

@ 2:56 your point should be self evident to a bunch of attorneys. That it isn't is a bit scary. If this guy really committed the crime, he is scum. But the fault lies with Dougy that he was set free, not with the supremes, who are upholding due process rights for all of us.

Now we do not hold the Nevada Supreme Court for their own decisions? A pedophile is a pedophile. I am glad that you are more concerned about "due process" then the assaulted child, probably children with a perv like that. Only Supremes would blame Doug Smith.

Why should I care about the sex predator's due process rights when the Nevada Supreme Court violates people's due process rights every day in their rulings. Is that Dougie's fault, too?

3:20,

*than.

Are you an attorney?

We can be outraged over the crime while still recognizing the Nevada Supreme Court is not at fault here. Well, maybe you can't. But the rest of us can. It *is* outrageous, but your ire is aimed at the wrong target. Prosecutors and judges have a duty to carry out justice. They failed in this case. Be angry at them, not the Supremes.

Sincerely,

2:56 PM

There are plenty of reasons to be mad at the Nevada Supreme Court. Understanding due process in this case is not one of them.

Indeed. After watching Chauvin get torched, it is good to know that somebody is at least paying lip service to due process. We'll see if the innocent 01/06/21 get some due process.

We remain hopeful that all of the innocent people from January 6th get due process on their way to acquittal, as well as all of the guilty people from January 6th getting due process on their way to conviction.

Ah, yes, the old "technicality" of due process. Those crooked defense lawyers and Nevada Supreme Court justices with their Constitutional sophistry. The legal equivalent of the old fumblerooski. Anger is a raw emotion and it matters not where it is directed if a child was molested!

Innocent people deserve due process!

Guilty people do not!

And the way to determine that is by political party!

This entire thread is just troll feeding nonsense. Stop feeding them. Y'all know it's just he who shall not be named and his coterie of creeps…stop engaging them. We know what due process is. If they don't, they're free to take out a 6-figure student loan and go to law school. Maybe they'll even go to a real law school instead of a strip mall in Cali?

The real kicker is "An arrest warrant in the law firm embezzlement was issued in 2009. A warrant in the Precision Electric theft was issued in July 2016."

Steve Wolfson, close to being Boyd 2013, you are disappointing. Zaon Collins is out, killing an innocent man. Robert Daskas failed you, as a pedophile is now on the streets, because of the Nevada Supreme Court. DUI murders cannot be charged as murders. You thought you had security on the Nevada Supreme Court with your newly elected buddy. Boy, she is turning out to screw the DA's office over.

Salazar was found guilty in 2015 and sentenced to 41 years. Prosecutors allege in 2013, he dragged the victim into his camper in an Indian Springs trailer park and assaulted her.

The state's highest court pointed to a meeting in chambers between Assistant District Attorney Robert Daskas and now-retired District Judge Doug Smith during the trial. Smith did not allow defense attorneys to join. Later, Smith nullified an outstanding warrant for a witness who flew in to testify that she saw the victim leave Salazar's camper.

This stuff is not supposed to happen!! What were they thinking?

Justices Abbi Silver, Lidia Stiglich, and Ron Parraguirre decided the most recent Salazar appeal. The others were on a prior appeal — Mark Gibbons isn't on the court any more.

In court Monday, Salazar accepted an Alford agreement and pleaded guilty to one count each of battery with substantial bodily harm and possession of a controlled substance. Under an Alford agreement, he acknowledged only that prosecutors had enough evidence to prove the allegations to a jury.

Besides being released, he will not have to register as a sex offender.

Wow, good job Steve Wolfson, and the Nevada Supreme Court for allowing a pedophile on the streets. You also allowed him to get away with it. I hope your little 6 year olds are not sexually assaulted.
