Omg I’m serious my first case was about a semicolon in a non-compete and whether it had the effect of “and” or “or – we settled so court never decided

1:56 – what’s your opinion? Is a semi-colon an “and” or “or”?

Depends on the use case, but enumerated lists and indenting is probably better than semicolons and run-on text.

Semi colons link independent clauses that are related in meaning. You could have two short sentences instead, but the nuanced meaning would probably be lost.
Semi colons are also useful for vertical lists.
A comma, on the other hand, signals a short pause.

I love semicolons. However the misuse of the apostrophe will be the end of me.

Review Journal doing an article about DC judges and how many use senior judges, and how many hours’ worth, to cover their calendars. Doh.

Around a decade ago, the RJ did a fairly brutal write up on a judge who was rarely in chambers. They followed her to her son/grandsons mid-day soccer games. I don’t remember who this was.

Judge Vega, and I think it was her daughter’s soccer games.

They did that to Jeff Sobel years ago also. He was a good judge. Jackie Glass beat him in the next election, and she was a good judge too (and a very fine mediator today), but that has always bothered me.

The RJ put photos on Sobel in his bathrobe getting the newspaper from his driveway at 10:30 in the morning in the story which just killed him in the election. Jackie was a former reporter who was very media savvy.

I had high hopes for Sobel because he beat Mendoza. But once he was on the bench he eliminated court appearances and just ruled on the papers. He claimed he was following Federal procedures. But he was really just hanging out at home.
