Jennifer Dorsey's demeanor is bad. Do not have much respect for her capabilities. Been in front of her a few times, and I dread it. She is wrong on the law in three of our cases.
Here is her very slim resume: "Before taking the bench in 2013, U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey was a partner in the civil litigation firm of Kemp, Jones & Coulthard, which she joined immediately after receiving her J.D. from Pepperdine Law School in 1997." That's it.
Jennifer Dorsey should mot be on the federal bench, because is inexperienced. Go in front of her, and you will see. Harris and Kemp helped her get the appointment.
Before taking the bench in 2013, U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey was a partner in the civil litigation firm of Kemp, Jones & Coulthard, which she joined immediately after receiving her J.D. from Pepperdine Law School in 1997. Although she litigated a wide variety of cases, including complex commercial litigation and class actions, she particularly enjoyed her appellate practice: briefing and arguing matters in the Nevada Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
While in private practice, Judge Dorsey was selected to serve on the Nevada Supreme Court’s Committee on Professionalism, was listed among the Top Women in Litigation and Nevada’s Legal Elite, and held Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV rating for competency and ethics.
Bad "demeanor"? I just recently had a hearing where she patiently and in detail explained to opposing counsel how to properly plead claims in a complaint. Many judges would have been ripping into counsel for having done such an inept job.
I cnnsider(ed) myself friends with Dorsey (to the extent that anyone can be friends with a federal judge after they take the bench) so I am biased. However there is no real secret regarding her nomination being tied to Harry Reid. It is very very interesting to have read Will Kemp's comments that Dorsey's ruling on RealWater case would kill his case.
She is one of the few fair minded USD-NV Judges that isn't afraid of the US Attorneys Office and will hold them to account for their bullshit charges and antics.
Again, like Betsy, she is another Judge that will treat you like a dick if you act like a dick. I have no complaints.

I'm surprised about Les. He is a very reputable attorney.
Les has problems in how he litigates cases. Seriously you can make any number of complaints regarding his cases. But seriously destroying a guy 20 years later over a tax return issue? Stovall was actually reinstated by the very Order that approved his suspension of 2 years. In other words, the State Bar understood that by the time discipline was handed down, it really would not matter.

Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Sam Martinez passed away unexpectedly this week, leaving a wife and six children. For those in the community who would like to donate to Sam's family, there is a GoFundMe link below.
I'm a lot like F. Lee Bailey. Of course, no great legal mind, no money, no celebrity clients, etc. But I do have a great contempt for authority so hey I hot that going.

Quick question, lets say you serve a subpoena duces tecum on a lawyer, that lawyer tells you he can't respond at all because everything responsive is privileged (not true, but put that aside for now). Is that good enough or does this person have to produce a privilege log as a party would? Please and thank you.
Wouldn't the lawyer be obligated to object to the subpoena or file a motion to quash? I don't think he can just tell you that he can't respond and to go away.
Motion to Quash. Even the Log Info could potentially be privileged.

A plain reading of 45(d)(2)(a)(ii) suggests that they do. "A person withholding subpoenaed information under a claim that it is privileged…"
It refers to "a person" responding to a subpoena as opposed to "a party."
That said, I don't think I've ever seen one before.

Lemme get this straight.
An unarmed White man who took a smiling selfie in the Capitol on Jan 6 faces up to 20 years in prison, while the Sacklers get a sweetheart deal that keeps them out of jail and protects them from future civil lawsuits for the genocidal crime of deliberately flooding downscale White towns with lethally addictive opioids.

And yet the US Attorneys will threaten the MAX until they get a plea or get him to snitch or take it to trial (at which they will ask for the MAX). You get real. Clearly Zero experience in federal prosecutions.

With regard to Dorsey all those supposed accolades came with being employed by Kemp Jones.
F. Lee Bailey died today, age 87.
He had his issues and it seems like he was rightly disbarred. But his cross of Fuhrman was masterful. How many of us can say we got the other side's star witness convicted of perjury?
F. Lee Bailey also obtained an acquittal for a commanding officer involved in the My Lai massacre way back in the day.
Les Stovall case has Judge Jennifer Dorsey on the case. I feel sorry for you. Can you preempt a federal court judge?
Nope – at least not in the way you probably mean that (the one free strike in state court.)
Objectively, why is Judge Dorsey a bad draw? Is she biased toward one type of party, demeaning, delays issuing orders?

How did she get the job? Anyone know the real skinny?
Jennifer Dorsey should mot be on the federal bench, because is inexperienced. Go in front of her, and you will see. Harris and Kemp helped her get the appointment.
Richard Harris?
she
I meant Kemp Jones, not Harris Jones.
@ 3:38, 4:42 and 5:50 – You clearly have no clue what you are talking about.

How do your CVs compare?
Much better, thanks.
Bad "demeanor"? I just recently had a hearing where she patiently and in detail explained to opposing counsel how to properly plead claims in a complaint. Many judges would have been ripping into counsel for having done such an inept job.
Former law clerk for Nevada Supreme Court, prosecutor who tried murder trials, and senior partner. How does yours compare?

Well, I am glad that she was nice to your client. Had her on a criminal case, and she was clue free. Her resume is blah.
Real Water is front of Jenner Dorsey? Damn. Not good

Except for his felony conviction and suspension.
Reputable?
Suspended from practice 2 years 2002-2004. Convicted of filing false tax return, a felony.
funny. Very reputable "except for his felony conviction and suspension."
Reputable in which way?

His children are pretty young, too. So sad.

The guy taking the selfie will not get 20 years. Get real.
And your point is . . .?

yes, and your point is? Would her accolades have been more or less impressive had she been previously employed by a less prestigious firm?
Point is Jennifer Dorsey has no business being on the bench . Her CV is the ninth circuit.
Other federal judges have some stellar CV? Please. Most judges don’t have a stellar CV. This is a district court position.
