I started my own firm a few years back. I am lazy and don't work full 8 hour days. I pay myself $2000/week gross, I have a full time paid assistant, and the firm has plenty of profit on top of that. I think if I were the type to actually grind and bill 6-8 hours, I'd easily make $250k. It's not hard if that's what you want.

1111 gets it. I did this more than 20 years ago and after 5 months of no pay check, doubled my associate salary the first year and doubled for each of the next three years. Then I slowed down and just did the work, because I could.

1116 here. Yes. It's not my primary caseload and I do not advertise. But, I close out $300-500 a year in settlements and I count that as my quarterly "bonus".

If you are working for the government and work weekends and holidays, you are doing it wrong.

Or maybe some of them are true believers and work for the common good not an easy life.

11:11-Considering that you don't work too hard, and work less than a standard 40 hour week, being able to pay all your overhead and still able to pay yourself $2,000. per week is not bad.

That's essentially $100,000. per year, which is fine with a few qualifiers-you live within your means and don't have extravagant tastes, you are single, or if you do have a family you have a spouse who also generates some meaningful income.

With all that being said, your situation looks even more promising when compared with many solos who work like 60 hours per week and still can't crack $100,000 per year after overhead(and many of them are the primary support of their family)

Greenberg starts certain levels at $249k, Messner pays at $200k+ for partners, Holland starts first-year associates at $180K (I have to imagine most attorneys are over $200k by now), federal magistrate is over $200k . . .

There are very very few $200k+ jobs. There are many $200k+ books.

The victim punching the 80-year-old is lucky the guy didn't die, that's prison for sure regardless of the underlying circumstances.

7:28-Agreed. We can all understand the rage and can empathize with someone in that situation who wants to act out in that manner.

But when you strike an 80-year, as opposed to a young or middle aged person,
and the situation is greatly compounded by occurring in court, there will be serious consequences.

To what extent those consequences can be mitigated based on the circumstances, is a separate, yet interesting, conversation.

Reminds me a little of Gary Plauche (had to look that part up though). 80 year old should be glad he used his fist instead of bullets.
