Regarding the scammer – sounds to me more like Palms exploited the couple by charging $270k for a funeral for 7 people and burial for 5 bodies. (https://www.funeralocity.com/average-funeral-price/nv)

Palm Mortuary is a scam, so is trying to pimp yourself as a super attorney on the back of a battered school child. Sick.

@12:36 – am I missing something? Who is the alleged "super attorney" you refer to?

$270k was the "upgraded" price. It was going to be only $150k. First, who pays $20k for a funeral? Second, you would think Palm would cut these guys a break!

The funeral home business is a scam that preys on vulnerable people who are going through the worst times of their lives. As if the dead person cares about a beautiful and lushly appointed casket.

"A man tried to scam family that lost seven members in a fatal crash."

Now that type of story kind of reminds me that it might be time to re-think my generally agnostic outlook, wherein I do not necessarily believe in an after-life in terms of a Heaven or Hell, etc.

After all, we not only need a Hell, but need to reserve the absolute most scalding corner of such Hell, to adequately address the proper eternal residential placement of someone who would scam a family who lost seven members in a fatal crash.

And while we are on this topic of reserving the most scalding corner of Hell, add in all these people who are involved in catfish romance scams which target the most lonely and vulnerable people.

Also, add in those scammers concerning false claims of IRS deficiencies owed(wherein the "sheriff" is around the corner ready to pounce on you unless you immediately send $10,000. in gift cards to the IRS), and the phony collections attempts for injured police and service members.

In fact, put all scammers in that corner of Hell–including the ones who are involved in scams which appear, at least on the surface, to be far more mundane in nature, such as the incessant calls to my cell. that my car warranty is due to expire(apparently, the same warranty that expired 12 years ago).

I have not included scams like the Nigerian prince scam since anyone who falls for that kind of gets what they deserve. If one falls for that(and, incredibly, a few continue to do so to this day) that represents the perfect intersection of intense greed and intentional, willful blind stupidity.

11:54, actually I almost put the IRS scam in the category of being so stupid to fall for that it is almost hard to feel much sympathy for the victim.

But I guess the reason I am not yet prepared to put it in that category of the Nigeria prince scam is because one falls for the IRS scam out of fear, while falling for the Nigerian prince scam is motivated purely out of intense greed, and as you mention, an intentional blind stupidity.

I didn't realize that the Nigerian prince scam is still a thing.

At any rate, I find it real interesting that the really bad grammar and atrocious spelling(in the Nigerian prince email)was absolutely intentional, and not merely the result of English not being the native language of the scammer.

Apparently, they knew they might have a live one on the hook if someone automatically looks beyond the horrible drafting and expresses an interest in moving the millions to their domestic bank account on behalf of the Nigerian prince.

I had the displeasure of working against TCM a few years ago. In my opinion, he and his staff were untruthful with me, and when I called him on it in front of the judge, he was untruthful again. When he was finally pinned down by the judge, he threw his staff under the bus. Ultimately, he lost in spectacular fashion, and although the ride was amusing, the victory cost my client more than it should have, and it took way longer than it should have. In my opinion, this guy will never learn or change.
