Not sure if dating another attorney would be great or a nightmare. If you talk to them about your day who gets the billables?

If you discuss case strategy during sex does it count as a threesome since you are screwing your client at the same time?

(in the interest of political correctness, I've edited this post for gender neutrality)

I dated lawyers but with little long-term success. The break-ups were always a little hostile and crazy. I'm done. As a personal rule, I try to talk/think about work as little as humanly possible while I'm on my personal time. In each instance that I dated another lawyer, I was amazed by how little the other person had to say that was unrelated to that person's work. It was a huge turn-off. I'm happily involved with an attractive and well-educated non-lawyer now. One lawyer in the relationship is more than sufficient.

I think it just depends on the person–I've dated doctors that are the same way.

Lawyers who don't constantly talk about their work seem to be the rare exceptions to the rule.

As with any relationship, you can set boundaries about work talk for balance. My husband and I are both lawyers and enjoy some level of work talk. I don't know how it works otherwise, unless your spouse doesn't work. How do you explain all that you have to give (if your a good practitioner) or what a motion for summary judgment really means, as one random non-specific example or why your are going to miss that parent teacher thing because you are under the gun AGAIN. I think lawyer/lawyer works well for many and can be beneficial. It is not like most other jobs and it helps to be with someone that understands that.

I'd recommend you just don't do it. Next thing you know, you're married then have a firm together. 🙂

I married a non-lawyer. She will never understand what I do. That makes me sad sometimes. To each his own.

I'm married to a lawyer and we have a firm together – just two attorneys and our staff. Works well. Of course, we were married before we both went to law school to be lawyers and worked together in our own business in a prior life so we're used to it.

Uh oh. They drew Allf. That case will not get resolved soon.

And Allf's husband is Dave Thomas, who is working with Dom Gentile on the Ramsey case, Gentile being former G&S. So the property owners may not like the decisions coming down the pike.

My non-lawyer spouse understands my job in sufficient details to carry on a decent conversation. Non-lawyers who are bright are fully capable to picking up enough information to understand what we do. That being said, I don't spend a lot of time talking about motions for summary judgment because we usually have far more interesting things to discuss.

I think the lawyer-lawyer relationship can work out, but I think it's better if the practice areas are different – especially if it's a male-female relationship and the woman is the better lawyer. There are far too many men who can't handle having a more successful wife in the same field.

Back to Gordon Silver. Come on, people. Where are your priorities? relationships? Or lawyers skipping out on the likely very large rent payments?

Gordon Silver's landlord filed a complaint against the firm recently. The complaint alleges that GS's monthly rent is currently $160k, and would go up to over $200k/mo. by the end of the lease.

Now I see why firms have been moving out of Hughes center. That's insane.

June 16, 2015 at 10:25 PM – Very reasonable office rents here in Laughlin. The commute's a touch long, but no stop and go traffic. Bring plenty of water in case you break down.

My mind cannot comprehend $160K/mo. in rent. I can see why so many firms have left, not to mention that locations is grossly inconvenient to so many places, and difficult to get in/out. Have you ever tried leaving that place at 5:00pm after a depo there? For comparison, what are rental rates in downtown Las Vegas or out in Summerlin?

They have four floors (7-10) – maybe that's why it's so expensive.

I agree with 5:27 I'm married to a non-lawyer. We started dating my first year of law school so after all these years of hearing me talk she knows enough about what I do to follow a conversation. Equally important to a non-lawyer spouse's ability to comprehend is the lawyer spouse's ability to explain things. As such the best part of having a non-lawyer spouse is that I run all my potential jury arguments off her. It's good to have a common sense non-lawyer to give you feedback on these things, especially if they have a good "BS meter". I've used her feedback numerous times to tweak my arguments and won cases based off that.

Stop dating PI attorneys. You need to mosey up to DA and AG land. The shield and sword of civilization.

I can't stand most lawyers I work with enough to handle happy hours let alone dating one. No way. I keep the same close friends I've had before law school and date people who are smart and understanding enough to "get" the stressors of being a lawyer and also amazing enough to not over analyze and beat issues to death. No thanks.
