One of our readers wrote in asking for a post on organizational tips? Do you have any? Any secrets for staying on top of everything? Do you have a top-notch assistant that does it for you? Is Siri your best tool? Do you have a paper calendar? Is your desk covered in Post-It notes? What is your secret to staying organized?
I hear Wilson Elser had a major cyber security breach.
Two of their attorneys said that in front of Williams the other day. They said their systems had been completely down for a couple days.
This makes me sooooo happy. Evil law firm.
1. Develop systems and routines and stick to them.
2. Get the best assistant possible. Super conscientious.
3. Delegate like the dickens.
On a political note: poor Roger!
Turn off email notifications. Set specific times (first thing in the morning, right before or after lunch, and around 4) to check and respond to emails. Having the little box pop up is super distracting, and most emails do not need to be responded to right away.
Start each day with a to-do list, in order of priority. At the end of each day, prepare the next day's to-do list so you have a plan for the day. At the end of the week, take a look at the next week's and month's deadlines, and create your to-do list for the following week.
Utilize the "eat the frog" theory. Take your most undesirable task and get it done first thing in the morning. It will make you feel more productive, and it will take away the underlying stress of knowing you have that task to do all day.
For meetings and appointments, calendar them. All of them. Personal and professional. If it's not on my calendar, it's probably not happening.
Sounds nice, but this is the kind of stuff I struggle to follow through with. I start a list, but rarely get it all done or updated. I used to try a whiteboard to do it, but that didn't work long. I use siri to remind of some things. Unfortunately, my firm doesn't allow work email on personal devices so that makes it tricky to get digitally organized.
Nelson Cohen was just arrested this week for felony theft and forgery.
Register of Actions
Case No. 19F25767X
State of Nevada vs. COHEN, NELSON
Case Type: Felony
Date Filed: 01/29/2020
Location: JC Department 3
Holy fuck. I hope that Medicare money is around for yesterday's post. Do your research when you hire an attorney.
Looks like he's up to his old tricks.
Medicare OP from yesterday here. It was not Mr. Cohen, but wow this is scary stuff!
Is this for the stuff that he was already in trouble with the bar for? Or is it new?
Apparently he has a consulting business.

One of his services is legal document preparation. Are suspended attorneys allowed to prepare legal documents?
My guess is that it is the same stuff from before.
Any linkage to case docs, or is that all we know? (sorry I don't know that much about JC or criminal filings).
His web page was blocked by our filter. Maybe it's a porn site or something. Hey, a man's gotta make a living.
Please explain the porn reference with Nelson Cohen. I used to work with him at Bremer. This is too damned sad.
The pace at which LVMPD and prosecutor pursue financial crimes is very slow. Betting this is the old stuff.
Probably be pled out as improper parking or disorderly conduct with restitution and broad stay out of trouble. He won't get any real time.
I too used to work with him at Bremer. It is not a porn site. His site says this:
"While the State of Nevada prohibits individuals from providing legal advice, in many cases the only assistance needed is with the preparation of the documents and filing; and for that purpose we are honored to be able to assist. We pride ourselves on the work that has been and is being completed, on a daily basis."
I don't think he can prep documents right?
2:26 here – my apparently unsuccessful attempt at levity based on the fact that our office web filter would not allow me to access his site, which is the same damn thing that happens every time I want to sit here at my desk and watch porn during the workday.
Vicki Greco was doing that shit while she was suspended. Bard College, joke, I mean the Bar did not care. She is now pimping Pariente all over her facebook. Pretty fantastic.
My bad, she is selling Anthony Paglia.
How do you pull filings from Justice Court?
Unfortunately, I don't think you can. You have to get copies like in the old days.
Correct, you cannot pull copies of the documents on-line, but need to have someone show up at the RJC and take a number.
OK, to all of you who might run afoul of the OBC, DON'T DO THIS!

Do NOT offer independent "legal consultation" services on the Internet. Find an experienced attorney and affiliate with them. If you can do like Doug Crawford and find a Judge to clerk for even better. But work for and underneath someone. This is suicide.
What do you think about this?
"The Nevada Supreme Court entered an order amending the rules requiring continuing legal education (CLE) to provide Nevada lawyers the opportunity to earn CLE credit for pro bono civil representation and related services for low-income Nevadans with unmet civil legal needs.
The amendment to Supreme Court Rule 210 allows attorneys to earn one CLE credit hour for every three hours of uncompensated legal services up to a maximum of four CLE credit hours per year. Attorneys must perform pro bono hours through a legal aid service organization, court or governmental program approved by the Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission."
Embrace this and start providing pro bono services unless you want the Court to license notarios and paralegals to provide "limited" legal services to "those who cannot pursue traditional attorney – client relationship."
E. cadish is okay with paralegals practicing law.
I am glad that it is there approved list of providers, likes Babs Buckley.
Thanks, Bogs for doing your job.
I can't emphasize how much using Microsoft One Note has helped my personal and professional organization. I have to pay for Microsoft Office anyway, so I make the best use of it as I can.
Filevine and Google Calendar manages all. Love em
