He's definitely trying to stay relevant by acting as a Nevada version of Trump. One of the few we should be so "honored" to have.

He's running for something in the future; any clue as to what potentially? Sisolak will be running for reelection in 2 years, but I think he's aiming for Cortez Masto's U.S. Senate seat.

There are no Republicans in this state. Except for the exceptionally talented Dan Rodimer, is there any potential in the ranks?

The problem is there are a ton of good republicans in this state, but the hardliners who run the state GOP label everyone a RINO at the first hint of independent thought and scare off all the people who would be electable in this purple state. Maybe I'm just ranting as a self-described moderate R, but I also think it's just poor election strategy. We have a long history of moderate governors and I don't expect that to change.

So to answer your question, no there isn't much potential in the ranks because the electable people have been run off. Just my 2 cents.

Agree. Hutchison was a decent moderate candidate but State Party wants firebrand idealogues (read: whack jobs). Amodei got in before the craziness took off and the State Party is not going to lure him into anything other than what he already has locked down. I am a registered Republican but refuse to be part of any of the lunacy. I keep my votes and campaign contributions very close to the vest now.

Dan Rodimer is not talented. He's a joke…and apparently a DV offender. His commercial wasn't even filmed in the district he was running in. I was happy to vote against him.

Some emails went out informing people who were not selected to interview for the Discovery Commissioner/Special Hearing Master last week (I know because I received one of them). Any intel on who was selected to interview for either position?

Will still do 6-8 years in prison minimum guilty, just a question of doing the time or paying a bunch of money then doing the time.

My money is on no time. The demographics determine the outcome. 2021 is not the year to imprison individuals with that high of an intersectionality score, and his victim's far too low to count. Zero sentence. That's my prediction. If the demographics and intersectionality scores had been reverse, 6-10 years in prison.

@12:27 – keep your racist garbage to yourself. Trying to clothe your nasty racism in intellectual jargon doesn't make you less of a racist.

Y'all are forgetting.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing if Mr. Chesnoff gets the young man off with no time.

I didn't understand – being a basketball star comes with dispensation for major crimes?
Hang him high, he made a decision and must live with it. A person died. For you soft heart: how is this different, other than social status and body count, than the box truck driver?

There is one glaring difference between the Box Truck Driver and the basketball star. Unwoke 12:27 alludes to it.

This one is easy, did hiring Chesnoff keep Gragson out of prison? It did not. There simply IS a market rate for these cases, 6-15 or 8-20. Now if it turns out the kid just bought that weed and hadn't smoked it yet, sure maybe he walks. But if he was "intoxicated" then look for 6 or 8 years minimum.

Agree. However I believe that 12:27 is a non attorney who lurks on this site. She pops out from under the bridge from time to time, always spewing some form of hate rhetoric.

Gragson got consecutive sentences. That scenario won’t apply in this case. If you think a good lawyer doesn’t help, you are delusional.

Gragson did not get consecutive sentences, he was sentenced to 8-20 years period, no consecutive.

I looked, found but one example of a dui death where less than six years was given. But it was still a five year min. Maybe this guy will catch a similar break but still, it's years in prison. https://news3lv.com/news/local/woman-receives-15-year-sentence-for-dui-death-of-jogger-near-sunset-and-215

I agree that it is rare for a DUI death to receive less than 6 years, but it does happen. As a criminal practitioner, I represented a client in a DUI death who received the minimum sentence of 2-5 years. It is rare, but it does happen. I have also represented individuals who were originally charged with DUI with substantial bodily harm and their charges were negotiated down to felony reckless and they were given probation.

All I know is that some time back my wife was in a major car crash with a 12th time DUI driver who attempted to flee the scene and then violently resisted arrest, and who also a prior felony death DUI conviction.

The prosecutor was nice enough to volunteer they don't have money for imprisoning these people, so they just let them go. He pled, took some counseling, rehab, and probation tacked on top of his prior probation/parole, and that was it.

I found the guy's address and considered giving him some social justice. My wife quite wisely pointed out he will never go to prison for harming us, but if I impose justice, I most certainly would be the scalp the prosecutors passionately pursue to the end.

Took my insurance money and called it a day. We took a vacation with the insurance money after she recovered. For all I know he killed someone since then and is still driving. I didn't have it in me to fight, and for what? The system is against victims and pro-criminals.

The basketball star will get a break. The victim's family will grieve and move on. That's it.

You're still on this? Give it up. Also, that decision has been well-settled law for decades. It wasn't novel. Get the net.

You're trolling, 1:34. A decision from 3 or 4 months ago is well settled? First time post about this, so buy a clue.

The decision being referred to here might've been only a few months ago, but it was based on precedents that are decades old. Don't like it? Take it up with the legislature.

Since when is the Nevada Supreme Court not responsible for their own decisions?

Asking whether they are responsible for their own decisions is a bit of a non sequitur. Whether they are right or wrong, because it was a statutory interpretation case, if the legislature believes the court got it wrong, the best institutional response is to amend the statute.

Help – does anyone know if I can file a Peremptory Challenge in Family Court when our Judge just retired leaving a Judge who we do not want (for reasons I would rather not say)? There have been no hearings, orders, anything. Please help.

Yes. Rule 48.1, subsection 9 allows for a peremptory challenge following a reassignment.
