Anyone care to share about experience in Dept 23, Judge Lilly-Spells. I have a civil matter and it appears she does not have any civil experience.

Got a quarter? Flip it. With that said, I will note that a number of junior judges are all off of the this and the coming weeks for judicial college so you might get any number of senior judges to hear your matters.
11:45–You are wise to ask for input as to performance, because if you decide to recuse, or not recuse, based only on whether a judge had substantive experience(when they were an attorney) in the type of case you now have assigned to them, you will be paying that $450(unless the fee increased again) in the majority of your cases.
Perhaps for the reason of cross-training or versatility, or perhaps even to prevent a lot of initial conflicts, more often than not a new judge is NOT assigned to a calendar which comports with their past practice experience as aa lawyer.
More often, the exact opposite is the case–lifetime DA or PD or private Criminal defense attorney initially gets assigned to Civil Calendar, while lifetime PI or Insurance Defense Attorney initially gets assigned to Criminal Calendar, etc.
Exception is Business Court where there does appear to be a sensible attempt to fill those positions with judges who had substantive Business/Commercial experience while in practice.
I have not been in front of this particular judge yet, but so far my experience with the ex-public defenders has been better than I expected.
Good points. However no one is getting thrown into Business Court in their first year on the bench. Didn't Hardy get given a Business Court docket and it was quickly taken away?
"AG says Las Vegas City Council violated open meeting law by cutting off activist."
I believe that a violation occurs if they refuse to let someone speak, but that a violation is not established merely because they place time limits on someone.
But I think that even though they let him speak, they created their own problems by how they handled it. Rather than set a time limit, they decided to cut him off when he started offering adverse opinions about the Council, and that looks real bad.
12:48. He was only allotted a minute. I believe it was some sort of public forum section at the end of the agenda whereby attendees interested in addressing the council get to speak for a minute each.
So, they should have just let him finish his one minute, rather than cut him off once he started to offer unflattering opinions about certain council members.
But something is really lacking in the article. Since he is noted as being an "activist", and the AG agrees that he was wronged, that suggests he was there to advance proposals for change in certain policy areas, as opposed to just being a name-calling attention-seeking gadfly.
But, by not mentioning anything of any substance as to what he was discussing, and only offering that he referred to a certain council members as not competent and not sufficiently responsive to the public, he ultimately gets portrayed in the article as the name-calling attention-seeking gadfly.
If he was cut off before he got to indicate what policy or issue he was there to discuss, competent reporting would appear to require that they should have interviewed him after the fact and ask what topics he hoped to address before he was cut-off.
Now, if he did truly intend to address any policy matters but never in fact reached them, my advice to him would be the next time he speaks to start off with the specific policy matters that are of importance to him, rather than diving right into a disparaging attack on council members.
After all, he may only be offered a minute, and in this case even less.
Name-calling of politicians(which is a favorite past-time and key attribute in a democracy) can always wait for later.
Does anyone know how involved Scientology is in the defense of Real Water? Or are they hands-off entirely? Curious to see how this one plays out..
Isn't Real Water represented by Thorndal Armstrong Delk Balkenbush & Eisinger, PC, so it must have some insurance? No idea how Scientology is involved, but I doubt if Thorndal would take advice from Tom Cruise.
BREAKING NEWS: Convicted killer Patrick McKenna just died on death row. Sleep easier tonight.
So breaking that it happened 10 days ago and has been referenced on this Blog previously.
MORE NEWS: Josh Duggar just arrested. The incident is related to the 2019 Homeland Security raid on his now-shuttered used car dealership in Springdale, Arkansas
Who can forget Patrick McKenna?
He strangled and killed his cellmate in the Clark County jail in 1979 and had been on death row since 1980. He was sentenced to four life terms in addition to the death sentence.
In 1979 McKenna masterminded the longest and most intense siege ever seen in Nevada.
On the morning of August 25, 1979, two inmates inside the city hall jail annex overpowered an officer, seized his key, and got an accomplice to help them steal weapons from the gun locker.
The trio tried to escape while wearing guards’ clothes, but detectives stopped them. Then a standoff began.
An army of police surrounded the jail where inmates tried to negotiate a deal using former KLAS-TV News Director Bob Stoldal as the middleman. Around midnight, the three ringleaders turned on each other and started shooting.
Two of the inmates ended up dead.
McKenna survived and held police at bay for another two days before finally surrendering.
Wolfson's gotta be so pissed he didn't get to kill him.
I tend to be against the death penalty, not because there are some people who don't deserve it, but because there are too many cases where it is applied unevenly and/or under circumstances that are tainted by racism, ineffective assistance of counsel, or mental illness/infirmity. This is not such a case. He was a pure sociopath.
