Here Comes Summer

  • Law

  • Judge Gloria Navarro will not be stepping down from the Bundy trial. [RJ]
  • Nevada prisons are going to be shifting their priorities to inmate rehabilitation. [Fox5Vegas]
  • What else is going on out there? Anyone else bother by the font change on the RJ’s website? Any other attorney’s been handcuffed lately? Is no one going to utter a peep about whether something is actually happening at Bremer Whyte.

I'd love a "Lawyer Asshole" thread, although the only lawyer asshole I've seen is my own.

But his brother Peabo, is an excellent musician. Maybe the mediocrity of standing in his songbird brother's shadow has become too much, and thus–he is an ass?

Having just watched Las Vegas Law, the Pandullos are lawyer hot. I don't like criminal attorneys, but those two are a really good looking couple.

The lawyer hot thread is dead because you can only talk about the same two to three people so many times. No one is hot. Attorneys are ugly. The end.

I can see your point to an extent…and even if "attorneys are ugly" that is exactly why we have the "lawyer hot" scale..which is saying something like "she's a real world 6, but a law school 9" or something to that effect. And if you are really anti-Lawyer Hot thread, then why not go for the Lawyer Asshole thread? I am sure there would be plenty to cover in that lol

The Bremer Whyte situation is really big and really bad and will have to come out eventually. Everyone in the know (myself included) is staying pretty tight lipped right now but there will be no avoiding a blow up of this scandal.

Oooh, can't wait. In my mind it involves a elaborate conspiracy involving fraudulent billing, an attractive secretary, an overworked associate, a partner whose motives are questionable at best, and Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago.

Embezzling money? I heard rumblings by someone that there was a firm with the partner embezzling. Not saying it is Bremer.

All the BW associates will go crowd the life raft of Dickinson Wright. Failed attorneys, who don't pay their bills.

This says they're expanding in Reno, so likely not a firmwide implosion. http://www.nnbw.com/newsletter/21855446-113/bremer-whyte-brown-omeara-llp-expands

10:15 suggests something big is afoot with a big public scandal to come. But maybe, just maybe, it's nothing. The only thing we know right now is that one partner is gone. That happens all the time. Take it easy folks. What'd anyone at Bremer Whyte ever do to you?

10:32 and 12:04, can we start a "squad?" Also, I would look 11:05 to join the crew as well. Ricky Skydwin? I'm trying not to laugh out loud. Chock Redoundabout? Dying. Reminds me of the Key and Peele skit on the East West Bowl (worth the youtube/google search if you haven't seen it). I'm feeling nice, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gODZzSOelss You're welcome.

How many of you have ever been handcuffed? It doesn't feel at all like you think it would feel.
EDIT: I mean in a criminal law capacity. I don't care what you do with your bedposts.

It is almost seems getting hand cuffed, in the criminal context, is a right of passage for a lot of attorneys. Hafen was mentioned in Wall Street journal for his idiocy.

It is not a rite of passage, in this context it was demeaning, humiliating and an abuse of power.

I heard the cuffs were on for about 2 minutes, not 30 as previously mentioned here. I don't see it as a big deal either way. Good for her to fight hard and Hafen probably overreacted and had multiple alternative ways to handle it. It still is not worthy of the attention it's getting. If she spent the night in jail I would change my tune.

I read the transcript. I commend Hafen. I can't imagine being so rude to a judge, over-talking repeatedly. Her client committed another crime. He was in violation of the terms of his deal. She was not zealously representing anything, she clearly needs to learn to read her audience. I hate seeing these attorneys continue to argue once it is clear to everyone painfully watching their sinking ship go down that the judge has already decided against them. It's pretty bold to think you will change the judge's mind with a second go-around after you failed to do anything valuable the first time. I don't care what anyone says, if she had acted professionally, used some decorum, and simple/basic manners: none of us would even be talking about this. I'm not applauding her for tactlessly going through the motions of her job. A zealous advocate would have made sure their client had their shit in order before walking into the courtroom. She's naive/arrogant/ignorant to think another larceny charge wasn't going to get her client thrown in jail. I probably would have brought up the second charge up front instead of letting the prosecutor do it, and used my "time" to try to do damage control, instead of allowing a representation to develop that the only error my client committed was a procedural snaffoo where he couldn't get his paperwork completed on time.

What I will commend her for: people are talking about her and now know her name. Bet, she will run for justice court soon.

Exactly. Poor attorneys often try to cover up their incompetence by yelling and being rude. Shrill hussy needs to back off and focus on her bad self.
