For Halloween I’m dressing up as member of OBC, I’ll carry a bag of plastic kittens that I’ll kick every once in a while, I’ll stop every 15 minutes to monitor things I have no experience in, and every hour I’ll stare into space and dream of the day they call me judge.

Happy Halloween! Remeber to turn back your clocks, check your smoke alarm batteries and reverse the spin on your ceiling fans.

When people ask what I dressed up as, I just tell them “res ipsa loquitur”

I’m a blast at parties.

I’m sure there are regional firms that think they’re too high class for this – but it didn’t take 15 years of practice to learn that in Vegas, people rich and poor, do not care about what they wear and where they wear it. VERY few clients would care about a receptionist in a costume – they’re already covered in tattoos and weird piercings at most firms anyway. BFD

The culture at Boyd under Dean LCG has taken a noticeable turn for the worse.

Most recently, the law school has been actively discouraging 1Ls from joining clubs, participating in extracurriculars, and attending networking events. Students are being told that the only thing employers care about is academics.

Also, last month a warm meth pipe was found in a locked student lounge area. The dean’s office blamed the janitorial staff and did no further investigation.

I’m glad I went to law school in the midwest and not UNLV. I’ve always had the impression that it was a very unhealthy, very lonely environment.

I’ve been on the hiring committee at my firm for a decade and we’ve never once been approached by UNLV to place students. We occasionally hire out of UNLV anyway, but mostly we stick to tried and true out of state schools.

The Nevada Attorney General’s office, representing the Control Board, said a complaint brought by Jaime Black is baseless and asked the court to dismiss it.

Black has since taken a job with the Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau.

Did we decide we are voting for Tina over Alan despite the lack of civil experience because of Alan’s editorials 10 years ago?

Yes. He abused his position on the board of governors to issue a political opinion in the state bar magazine. He knew he should keep politics out of his message, but he chose to ignore his duty to the bar.

I go out of my way to vote against people who treat positions of power in that manner.

No. Absolutely not. Alan has the experience and his opinions form 15 years ago should not cause him to be cancelled.
I voted for him as did dozens of those that ask me about the judges.

It wasn’t 15 years ago, it was 2014. If you were giving us a homophobic quote from 1995, sure, forgivable. Most of us were homophobic back then. But 2014 was just months before Obergefell and years AFTER it should have been clear to everyone that LGBT people have a fundamental, constitutional right to marriage. He was among the very last people in the country to hold that homophobic position, and to say so publicly.

And let me add that, to my knowledge, he has never disavowed what he said. I am not gay, but I do not want this man adjudicating the rights of marginalized people, whether they be gay or not.

11 years ago then. But he was voicing support for the then current Nevada Constitutional law at the time. A moral issue and not a political one. Judges make rulings under the LAW every day and put aside their own personal biases every day.

He is vastly superior to Talim so just quit with the cancel culture. Its nonsense

On top of his homophobic, political, inappropriate use of a state bar column, it was incredibly poorly written. I doubt he’s figured out how to express a coherent thought in the last 11 years.

You are entitled to your doubts. But, as a practitioner, he is solid and knows what he is doing. He will make a solid judge.

Also, he was expressing a moral position that at the time, was codified into the Nevada State Constitution.

You know his racist comments in the RJ was less than a month ago, right? He double downed in what he said 11 years ago. Also, he hasn’t practiced in over 5 years. Hadn’t tried a case in almost 45 years. He did construction defect most of his career. He’s literally in his mid 70s and struggles to finish a thought. No, man. He isn’t getting our votes.

Fair enough. But the REASONS used are inflammatory and indicative of cancel culture. Words like “disqualify” without even considering or exhibiting a willingness to discuss the relative merit of the candidates is like shitting your pants and changing your shirt.

NVSC holds that dual service at a state college or as a public school teacher or public defender does not violate separation of powers. I think I agree.

I do have some concerns about when, for example, an ADA is voting on death penalty laws while relying on a pro-death penalty DA for his or her paycheck. But at the end of the day I think that’s up to the voters to consider when electing officials and isn’t necessarily a constitutional issue.

All I ask is that we don’t elect or appoint DAs as judges or legislators. And don’t let Supreme Court justices also be the UNR president.
