  • The Supreme Court is seeking applications from people wishing to serve as a foreclosure mediator. Individuals appointed by the Supreme Court in 2017 will need to reapply as their 2-year appointments are expiring.  Each of the 17 District Courts in Nevada assign appointed mediators to cases when foreclosure case if filed and mediation is requested. The District Courts pay mediators $400 per case when mediation is complete.  Individuals interested in becoming an appointed foreclosure mediator should visit https://nvcourts.link/Foreclosure-Mediators to download an application and review the statewide foreclosure mediation rules. The qualified mediators should return a signed copy of the application (scan acceptable) to FMPMediator@nvcourts.nv.govThe Nevada Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) maintains the list of eligible mediators for the District Courts. The AOC will notify applicants if the Supreme Court appoints them as a foreclosure mediator. The Supreme Court requires appointed individuals to sign and follow the Mediator Model Code of Conduct.

Any insight from attorneys who have served as foreclosure mediators? How many cases do you receive, how much work do you have to do per case? Etc.? Thanks!

You do this kind of work for public service, not for the fee. They are a lot more work than you will ever get back in compensation. Like being a court arbitrator or supreme court settlement judge.

Its a resume builder for people who want to be a judge. There are very few cases presently in the system. Cross your fingers for another economic calamity.

There are far more mediators, most of whom are lay persons, than there are cases for mediation. Cases are assigned randomly throughout the entire pool. I understand that the current rate of assignments is roughly 1 case every 90 days.

Yes, many mediators are lay persons. They are distinctly unqualified to perform the statutory tasks required. Most could not describe the difference between a note and deed of trust and would look at you cross eyed if you asked them about an alonge or to explain chain of title. Unfortunately, the selection process doesn't think legal knowledge is important.

I am still concerned about the individual who posted on Friday, and who identified himself by name, along with the representation he has a JD Degree.

He is trying to rally support for his positon that there is employment discrimination, in Nevada, against Non-Jewish attorneys being hired.

In the past, I did hear of Christian attorneys complain that they had trouble getting hired in New York, as they believed most of the Manhattan firms were Jewish controlled. I have never heard such a thing said about Las Vegas, wherein the Jewish population is relatively small compared to the Christian population, and probably small compared to the LDS population as well.

But now this type of racist paranoia has intruded here as well, unless(and hopefully this is the case) that poster was an outlier. But even if he is, he was trying very hard to rally support, to the point of having people sign on for his odious mission.

But the poster, and others, should remember. The fault does not lie in the stars, but in ourselves. The goal should be to become so hard-working, knowledgeable, skilled and committed that firms will want to hire you.

Or is it simply much easier to remain largely unmotivated, to be mediocre at best, and then blame one's poor employment prospects on the what he perceives to be the cultural or religious composition of certain law firms?

Guess the question answers itself. Not too long ago Nevada was known as the Mississippi of the West. Perhaps there are still vestiges of that, as proven by that posters and others of similar ilk. Very sad.

Can't believe I spelled Mississippi correctly(either I did, or my spell check is faulty).

I don't think this guy is anyone to take seriously. That said, I am not Jewish, but I can certainly understand how that email would be upsetting to our Jewish colleagues. I grew up in a vanilla, boring place where everybody was the same. I love living in a city with people from all kinds of backgrounds. It makes for interesting stories when you first meet someone. I am not Jewish, but this city is a much better place for the relatively large and stable Jewish community. I enjoy and value my friendships with Jewish colleagues and neighbors. Vegas wouldn't be Vegas without our Jewish community!

The same guy was sending similar emails to attorneys in Oregon. He is a real person and a real person to avoid.

The two jewish law firms I worked for were the best to work for. I worked for a Mormon judge who was great. I worked for another Mormon law firm who discriminated against women. The work environment depends on peple, not religion.

The guy is a bigot. That is why he can’t get a job. It is not because Jews control the legal industry. I am not a Jew and would never hire him.

Ginsburg is a repulsive creature. Wear the robe and imagine the power to impose your views on the world. Terrible. Unlike the diabetic nobody who literally does not have the mental prowess to understand, Ginsburg knows exactly what she is doing. Sheer evil.

I'm a white, straight, upper-middle class Mormon male who is a member of the Federalist Society. "Repulsive creature"? Do you know how ever-fudging ridiculous you sound making comments like that? Honestly, I'm tired of this kind of this garbage. I don't agree with Justice Ginsburg on some fundamental legal concepts and issues, but she is an American treasure. She is a woman who dedicated her life to a very worthy cause (gender equality), unlike you, 10:51 PM, whom I can only assume is a nameless, faceless cog in a machine whose life will have been of literally no consequence on this planet, unlike Justice Ginsburg. If any of my kids grow up with a quarter of the purpose and character of Justice Ginsburg, I will be absolutely fanatical in my pride for what they have become. I have had it with hacks like you tearing down the country by disparaging people simply because they think differently. Our country is a better place because Ruth Bader Ginsburg has inhabited it. She is a patriot and a role model. All of my daughters know who she is and all of them admire her deeply, as do I. America needs more Justice Ginsburg and less of the mindless drones like 10:51 PM.

One hundred years from now, when they do a post mortem on the former United States of America the excavators will be scratching their head why the citizens ever gave women the vote or signed off on the 1965 immigration act. It has been downhill ever since.
