Friday Open Thread: A Year After WildWildLaw

  • Law

So I was just looking back at some of the posts on the now defunct Wild Wild Law blog and I realized that it’s been a year (and a month) since the last post went up. That got me thinking, what was it about Wild Wild Law that made it so popular? This blog might never be what WWL was, but I’m hoping that it will be a place where people can come to participate in some intelligent discussion about what’s going on in the legal world.

That being said, is there anything about WWL that you’d like to see brought back to the Las Vegas Law Blog? How can we improve on what we’ve got going now?

Some things that I can’t promise to bring back from WWL are:

  • Double kickstands in your face,
  • The BK hottie, or
  • Troy Fox (although I’d like to have him do some guest blogging for us)

And as always, if you have any tips or rumors, you can e-mail them to me or Law Dawg at jdmcnugentesq at gmail dot com or law.dawg.esq at gmail dot com.

Well, it was only a matter of time. Mainor Eglet Cottle first became Mainor Eglet, and now Mainor is gone, making it Eglet Wall.

WWL was a relief valve. This can be a pressure-packed business. We need a place to blow off steam, point out the absurdities in our community, and vent about things. The great thing about WWL was that it gave people in a serious business an opportunity to be decidedly unserious.

Gossip? Ok, whats up with Santoro Driggs? I've heard through the grapevine that they are having some "issues" over there. More specifically, I've heard that a few of their attorneys are "looking for some new office space." Does anyone know if theres any truth to this and if so, what the details are?

I think that this site is harder to find than las vegas legal life and wild west were; it doesn't come up as readily on hit or miss searches.

The reader commentary on WWL was really fun and really interesting. The reader commentary on the subsequent blogs has been progressively less fun and progressively less interesting.

I blame this on Elle. She tried to make the whole thing all polite and dignified.

First, the Las Vegas legal community is neither polite nor dignified.

Next, polite and dignified = boring

Let your freak flags fly.

@ January 27, 2012 4:02 PM May I quote you on: "First, the Las Vegas legal community is neither polite nor dignified" … you left out that probably 70% or more of the attorneys that practice in LV have engaged in and/or knowingly kept quiet about legal fraud. Those kinds of DIRTY DOINS, nah, they don't mix well with THINGS LIKE DIGNITY AND POLITENESS OR INTEGRITY OR IMPECCABILITY. I think you would agree with me on that point, eh?

I am not 4:02. No I don't agree with you. I have practiced here for 20 years. Maybe 5-10% have been doing the fraud thing and I don't care what the percentage is on keeping quiet about it.

Oh no, it's one of the Erratic Allcaps Non-Lawyer Trolls, either YOURRIGHT, HawkEye, or the person obsessed with Silvianne Steinbach (unless they are all the same person, which I consider a distinct possibility)

WWL had some pretty lively discussions about Nevada Supreme Court opinions when the court was divided over an issue.

I heard Santoro left with two people. That's all I know though.

While the efforts of the LVLB bloggers to keep the candle burning are laudable, it seems as though no one will ever again be able to create the edge and irreverence of WWL's heyday. Where else could one get information on the local job market and survey results for who is the hottest female judge?

Santoro and 5 others are out the door in the next few weeks.

Anyone know what happened between the Defenders since Cristalli is now at Gordon & Silver?

Rumor has it there may be some high level resignations at the District Attorney's office (especially in the Family and Juvenile sections) resulting from Wolfson's appointment. Can anyone confirm?

I still have a feeling many lawyers don't know about this blog, or at least not the specific web address. I'd suggest getting a facebook page to advertize the site.

This is admittedly the best, most lively post in a good deal of time on here. More frequest threads will lead to more frequest responses on here.

I agree the biggest problem with this site is it is hard to find. When I first found it I was very excited to find the inevitable successor to wild wild law and las vegas legal life, but I immediately save it in favorites, and I couldn't find it again through searches. The only way I found it again was searching through my entire history. More visibility is imperative. Please. Because I long for the days of WWL and LVLL.

@ 10:32

I like how you say you "know" when your statement is 100% inaccurate. Jacka$$

Wow, I'm not 10:32, nor do I know who 10:32 is, but I read your post and say, really??? You contort, distort and otherwise dismember 10:32's comment, that he/she heard that Santoro is leaving and that's all he/she knows into something he/she didn't say and then call him a JackA$$? You're an A$$Hat!
