Since the Las Vegas Business Press decided to do an article on one of their partners, Mike Wixom, we thought we’d start off the week by putting the firm spotlight on Smith Larsen & Wixom. With nine attorneys, this firm focuses on both litigation and transactional work, with emphasis on: banking, business, commercial, contracts, personal injury/product liability, and appellate law.
So, what can you tell us about SLW? Ever worked with them or for them? Any idea on pay/billable hours? Are bowties a required part of the dress code?
The founder, Jay Smith, passed away not long ago. He was one of the genuinely nicest lawyers I've even known. Jay was an excellent ADR neutral and a respected advocate for his clients. I wish there were more lawyers like him in Las Vegas.
I recently went against Kent Larsen on a fairly complicated litigation matter. He was always very professional and easy to deal with.
I had good experiences with Jay and was sorry for his passing. I have good experiences with both Kent Larsen and Stewart Fitts (as well as various associates). With the addition of Paul Haire, this firm has a cadre of attorneys who I respect and like professionally, whether we are on the same side or opposing sides of litigation.
I've had good experiences with Kent Larson and Chet Glover there. Nice guys, very reasonable. My experiences with Stewart Fitts are that he will do his best to delay every step to a ridiculous degree. He also tends to be nice in person but nasty in writing. That said, he has had a lot to deal with in the last couple of years, so that may not be his SOP.
I think they are a good mix of professionalism and competency.
I worked with Jay Smith before he passed away. He was an exceptional attorney and an extremely nice guy. In my current position, I have had the opportunity to work with Kent Larson on several different matters. He has been a pleasure to work with. Great attorney and great all around guy.
