Lest we forget, the unofficial February 2013 bar exam results will be posted some time today on the State Bar of Nevada site. Yes, someone who has a connection at the Supreme Court will know before you do, but even if they told you that you passed, would you believe them?
Last February’s pass rate was a whopping 56%–the year before it was 63%. Any predictions on what it will be this time? Any words of wisdom for those that make up the unfortunate 40% or more who may be retaking it in July?
Ed. The results are now up here. The pass rate was 54%, with roughly 110 names on the list.
Any word on the time of posting? What time did they post July and Feb of 2012?
They usually post sometime around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
They post it later in the day. Of course, by then an army of refreshers will have accumulated and the site could crash like it did in October (July 2011). I think they should release the results at 2:00 AM. Everyone gets up, checks it and gets on with their day. Instead, today people will be really unproductive.
For some reason, judges at the RJC get the list first thing in the morning. So if you know someone down there, that's an avenue. That's how I found out.
54% rate is pathetic. There is no way that many people deserved to fail. While it may be good for us to have a little less competition, I think it is better in the long run for Nevadans and us to have healthy competition. The bar should also give reciprocity to the 20 states that do so (not CA) and let that help our market equalize. For too long we have kept our doors shut tight and it is not helping anyone. We have a perpetual good ol' boys club and judges with their hands in the pockets of the plaintiff's firms. It's time for a change.
/end rant/
There are way more than 20 states that offer admission on motion with or without a reciprocity requirement.
I will say I think its funny that I find that many Nevada attorneys think that Nevada would get flooded with CA lawyers. I have the strong sense (personal belief is all) that if CA opened up to admission on motion, the flow of attorneys would not be towards Nevada.
And, for anyone that failed: Failing a bar exam is not the end of the world. I know very well respected attorneys who failed a bar exam. I know attorneys I wouldn't trust to buy a legal pad who passed on the first try.
Tony Liker was in the 2 percent of his class.
Never trust an attorney who passed the Nevada bar on his first attempt!
(passed on my second and doing just fine)
At least we're not California with their 41% pass rate. http://www.law.com/jsp/ca/PubArticleCA.jsp?id=1202600952192&Pass_Rate_on_February_Bar_Exam_Was_41_Percent&slreturn=20130422104441
